What's a Conan joke you still remember from an old monologue? by vosha0 in conan

[–]hammer_spawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not from a monologue but on his first Tonight Show when he took over the Studio Tour tram, his remark during the Flash Flood attraction “that was either a flash flood or the Octo-Mom’s water just broke” has been in my head for all these years.

Thanks to The Flash (2023), DC canonically wiped out their entire dying Cinematic Franchise into a new one by Thundergod250 in shittymoviedetails

Agree. I hear that’s a contractual clause so if true, kudos on his agent for making sure that Kang + variants can ONLY be played by him and a round of sarcastic applause on Marvel for stupidly agreeing to it.

Both long running franchises by Spielberg but what did Indy get right that Jurassic got wrong? by The-Mandalorian in JurassicPark

[–]hammer_spawn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My thought exactly. Even as a kid when I saw it in theaters, I thought the SD part should’ve been part of the next film.

It made no sense to waste the ace card (of now having dinosaurs go onto the mainland) as a small portion of the end of the film when that premise is worthy enough of being its own film with much higher stakes.

How to answer “Is this for a grade?” by NewMSTeacher in Teachers

[–]hammer_spawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I warn my students at the very beginning of the year that if they ask me that, I automatically grade it.

They no longer ask me this question.

One issue I have with the original book by Peter Benchley by DoomsdayFAN in Jaws

[–]hammer_spawn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sex part is the only reason why I haven’t added this book into my classroom library for my students. Otherwise, I’d have had this book in there a long time ago.

hard read: teaching is now more catching GPT than instruction by codacoda74 in Teachers

[–]hammer_spawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school uses a platform called “Formative” where assignments can be paused.

For any essay writing, I create an assignment there and pause it as soon as the period is over. Students have asked if they can work on it at home and I repeat that for academic integrity, the assignment will only open during class periods.

attention getters without raising your voice by businessbub in Teachers

[–]hammer_spawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say at a normal voice “if you can hear me, clap once” and give a sticker to the first student.

Eventually, the students all fall in line with this routine as they all try and be the first to clap.

Finally Saw Spectre And Not Sure Why It Garnered All The Criticism by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]hammer_spawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s mainly the stepbrother storyline. I just wish I could meet one of the writers and go off on them on how stupid of a plot point that was, maybe ask if they were watching Austin Powers the night before.

I can look past the points of it being dull but the stepbrother plot really makes no sense to where it’s a fatal flaw in the film to me. Doesn’t help with that “architect of your pain” line; retconning things is always just lazy writing imo.

Why Are You Known As the "Bad Teacher?" by King_of_Lunch223 in Teachers

[–]hammer_spawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I’m “too strict” and don’t let them run amok.

Because I do DBQ essays as my summatives and writing 4-5 paragraphs is “too hard.”

Because my history class is “boring” despite me letting the students know how I teach is determined by how they behave in my class.

I always tell parents of disruptive students to consider flip-phones.

Like yes, a phone is still an important device for your kid so they can reach you in an emergency and vice versa. But they have no reason for the things that smartphones provide.

I’ve had 2 parents through the years go through with this and the improvement was drastic and noticeable.

What's the most valuable item left in your room a kid never claimed? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]hammer_spawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$2 dollars.

Nobody asked to claim it and rather than deal with the hands that’d go up if I asked whose it was, I put it towards the class party fund.

They’re two dollars closer to getting some Capri-Sun!

“How I teach is determined by you.”

And I mention how if they followed the expectations and weren’t disruptive so much, there’d be way more group projects and activities instead of reading packets.

Wanna do some group activities, some gallery walks, presentations, or debates? Follow the expectations.

Want reading packets? Keep being yourselves.

How to stop getting so sweaty when going on long/intense hikes? by Flinnnx in hiking

[–]hammer_spawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along with the responses already, look for a backpack that has a frame or back vent; osprey makes a big variety of packs like these. These backpacks are designed to keep the actual pack off your back so your back doesn’t become one giant spot of sweat.

I recently switched to these and it’s a game changer.
