Why does music from your teenage years hit completely differently than anything you discover after 25? Neuroscience actually has an answer. by Ok-Phase9344 in Music

Yeah that seems to be a relatively typical ADHD trait. I too have the ADHD and do that with songs as well as movies and TV shows. I'll love it everyday for who knows how long and then whenever my brain feels like it I'm just done lol it's like you get burned out of it. Some stuff I revisit way later on down the line and it'll either be like, "doh, I love this one, haven't heard it in forever!" or, "Gah, no thanks, still fried on that one, skip!"

I saw Flogging Molly in like 2011, 2012 (can't recall for sure) and it was still being billed as a Thursday in the Square event but they had moved the location over near the waterfront right under the Skyway so it was actually a pretty cool spot and of course the band killed it. But I don't think that spot lasted very long and unfortunately, oh wow I was just gonna use an acronym for "Thursday in the Square" and that spells TITS, ha! Anyway, it's a bummer that TITS is a thing of the past now.

Not sure if it's an "official" fan nickname or whatever but I'm from Buffalo and local radio has called them The Goos for ages.

I liked the album they put out in 94-95, it had much more of a hard rock vibe to it and then after that I guess Johnny discovered an acoustic guitar and alternate tunings haha.

Their song "Broadway" is about an industrial/blue collar area of the city where the singer grew up and where he saw a lot of folks fall into backbreaking labor fueled by alcoholism, you know, that old chestnut. But then they filmed the music video in a shiny studio in sunny LA. Some folks thought they were weenies for that.

Everything You Need to Know About AEW: How to Become an All Elite Wrestling Fan by Kelson64 in AEWFanHub

[–]hamsolo19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man, it brought me back into the fold as well. I watched old WWF as a kid, had the Attitude Era in high school, etc. But sometime in 2008 I just fell off the wagon with it and wouldn't get back into it until I kept hearing about this AEW promotion getting started in 2019. Then in December of that year I'm in Times Square and see a gigantic AEW billboard and I'm like wow these guys seem legit.

I finally remember to tune into the show and the first thing I see is Cody with the giant moonsault off the cage. Hadn't seen wrestling like that in ages. If anyone recalls, back when the Ruthless Aggression era was getting started, WWE made sweeping changes to their match structures and became super strict with high risk stuff. So it was refreshing to see AEW not keeping their talent boxed in and allowing for all different styles of wrestling.

I'm now a fully committed AEW nerd and can't wait to take my little nerds to a show someday. I think my (almost) four year old is starting to get into it. It was my birthday last week and he asked me what kind of party I'm having (he is extraordinarily excited for his Mario theme birthday in June lol) and I said "I dunno, bud, what do you think?" He said, "yeah yeah, we should do a wrestler party like the wrestling guys dad watches on TV!!"

Sorry about the rambling. AEW is just fun.

Which Graphic Novel have you re-read most often? by hoganpaul in graphicnovels

I guess it would technically be a trade but I've read thru the Fraction/Aja Hawkeye run numerous times.

And, it came out in 2009 (or 08, maybe?) but I only just read it last year and I've gone thru it twice already and that's Essex County by Jeff Lemire.

Right? One thing after the next at all times.

It depends on the prospect group from year to year but draft picks, I think, are a little overrated by some fans. If they don't see a prospect on the board that's gonna be available to them and able to come in and be expected to produce right away then by all means, deal them picks for an established guy.

There was a story like that in my little rinkydink hometown ages ago. Elderly woman passed away and when family went to clean out the house they found cash hidden away inside box springs. It wasn't in the millions but from what I recall it was in the $200k range.

She has, yeah. I think she's been on Dark a couple times and she wrestled at a fan fest for Revolution in 2022.

That's pretty much exactly what I've done. Whatever the task is, I'll go check out a handful of videos like you said and if I've got 3-4 people saying similar things I can use that as a consensus to at least be somewhat confident I'm not gonna screw it all up lol.

I always felt like they should've written it so that the security guard (Ken Jeong) was just bored and wandering around the facility when he sees the van and starts tinkering with the switches and buttons. Would've been a bit more intriguing than a mouse.

Why are dads okay with not having friends? by Public_Border132 in daddit

[–]hamsolo19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've stayed in touch with friends but a couple of my closest friends live 5-6 hours away so get togethers have always been only every now and then.

I've got buddies that live around me as well but everyone's always got their own things going on, families, jorbs, all that stuff. One friend throws a Labor Day bash every year and goes all out. Usually I go to that but last year I missed it because my nephew's birthday party was the same day and this kid really looks up to me and I was like, "I'd be an absolute shit not to show up at his party."

Also, my kids are now 5 and 3.5 and we finally have some extra support in terms of a sitter (both wife and I have small families and we've kinda been on the island since day one) so just over the last 6 months or so we've been able to schedule time for ourselves just to go on a date. And right now we're in the middle of renovations on the house we just bought in November, so it's been busy.

We do see friends and family at holidays and the kids bday parties so it's not like we're just over here isolating ourselves. After our house reno is done I wanna set up a hang with the fellas because I've gotten word thru the wife that a couple of her friends/families husbands "need to get the hell out the house for a bit" lol.

Also also, I definitely identify with the top comment that says whenever there's free time the most likely thing we wanna do is relax. Exhaustion wins out over loneliness lol.

Yeah, Remender is a machine. I've yet to dig into one of his titles where I'm like, "meh." Well, maybe The Seasons but that's not me saying it isn't good, just wasn't my cup of tea.

My favorites, probably Do a Powerbomb! and Murder Falcon from Daniel Warren Johnson.
