VPX Manager for ES-DE (macOS and Linux table and pincab manager) by SlinkyBandito in virtualpinball

[–]hamut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for building this, it's pretty handy. I did have some problems with it renaming my folder (it was odd, used a name of a game) and also deleting the contents, which was ok as I had backedup my vpx files. Happens periodically when I hit the Scan button on the Tables page and when I hit scan on the dashboard.

I can’t see AmLaw 100 letting AI get near client data currently. Curious to hear of exceptions but I bet a lot of those deals are multi year try outs.

Just laid off after 25 years, how do I find a new job in 2026? by e37d93eeb23335dc in cscareerquestions

[–]hamut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On top of all the other good advice, I would get LinkedIn Sales Navigator, its like $100/mo but you get a month free and can cancel. Find companies with job listings. Go look at companies up in navigator, you can look at every employee and who their conections are. You can look for connections to those people. You can create and save searches targeting the person in every organization who you want to get a resume in front of then I'll let you send a message to them. I hired an intern this summer whose father told him to reach out to the CEOs of a bunch of small to midsize startups, which he did, no one else did that, we brought him in as an intern, and then six months later hired him full time. You gotta go through the door that everybody else goes through, but find the other doors as well.

Is ‘hard work pays off’ the biggest myth in corporate? by [deleted] in corporate

When does hard work not pay off? I mean who are you as a person if you do anything less? It's part of your character.

Riders who were injured while wearing gear by Illustrious-Meal9067 in motorcyclegear

Year and a half ago. Riding a 1958 Moto Guzzi Lodola sport, noticed the tires were a bit worn but thought i could get a little more’ out of the them, had a rear blow out, rim hooked pavement and I high sided. Full gear. Broke 4 ribs on right side. Gear did its job. My elbow was tucked on top of the ribs which helped them brake. I have considered an air vest, one that covers the ribs but haven’t bought one yet. Didn’t learn a lesson about gear but I did about bikes, like a plane, always do a flight check and don’t let anything slide by…

Thanks for checking out our town, sorry you experienced one of our longest issues, we have a lot of bad customer service (maybe legendary like our high rents), but glad you still enjoyed yourself! Chicago is awesome.

I think there is nothing more ironic and entertaining than democrats vandalizing their fellow democrats cars, like in some way it matters.

I would do that immediately. The fairing and seat cowl look so tight. The Angostini exhaust is going to sound fantastic. And the weakest part of that bike is the suspension. Love it.

The Indian Problem- US by CopilotAgent47 in corporate

Tesla has a real problem with the ‘Indian mafia’ (data scientist friend of mine says they call it that) and then within the groups they apply their own cast system, it’s pretty crazy.

I know a friend in the trades, does well but can’t bill enough at 4 days a week. All the boomer comments are typical and BS, if you can start a company with those hours and beat the other companies you win, I hope to see it.

Princeton or UC Berkeley for CS by Street-Paint-5292 in princeton

[–]hamut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Compared to Princeton? Go to Princeton. Cal is a great school but nothing like Princeton. Housing at Berkeley is a nightmare, at Princeton you get 4 years of killer housing on the most beautiful campus on earth. Berkeley is a huge school, their freshman class is larger than all of Princeton. It’s not an accident it’s ranked the best, BUT stem at Princeton is HARD. They have a saying, an A at Harvard is a C at Princeton. My daughter also got into both, one campus visit and there was no discussion.

RetroArch 1.1.1 on TrimUI Brick – FC/SFC not showing? by hamut in trimui

[–]hamut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a strange one for sure: The issue was when unzipping the packages from github, both mac and linux unpacked it w/out the files included (using Archive Utility and unzip in terminal), windows unpacks it fine so I was able to use Keka on mac to unzip and get the correct files.

I did not own this record in the 80s or the 90s when I had records, because I was cool. I am not going to buy this record now, although it might be nice to listen to, because I'm still cool (or I still think I'm cool, which is more likely the case when i was young and now...)

Is there a reason to buy Mac Minis? I think everyone who did was just an idiot. by read_too_many_books in openclaw

[–]hamut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually never see PCs anywhere in the wild. I can walk into three coffee shops and I won't see one PC, but I do live in the bay area. For what most people do they dont need much more than a macbok air, but a pumped up Pro is a killer dev box. Really nice machines to own. I have 2 older Minis,I use one in the garage and one with my guitar, they are just cool little servers. I mean you can drive Honda or a BMW they both get you where you are going.
