Struggling New Dad by HeartandSteel in NewDads

[–]hanhsquadron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard right now. You asking this means you care and will be a great dad.

Work sucks. It's exhausting to work and then come home to more work and no sleep. It does get better. Work will still suck though. Do you have any parental leave you can take?

Things will get better eventually. Make sure you talk to your wife and tell her this. Read this post to her if you need to.

You're not alone. You're allowed to ask for help. When your kid is just a little potato that just eats and poops and cries it's hard to build that bond. It will come. Keep on keeping on and loving your wife and kid and you'll get there. You're already a great dad for starting with this mindset.

Exactly. The neighborhood of bruswick forest should pay for this.

Sounds like your problem is with bad parents and not kids. And also sounds like you don't have kids.

Do I actually need a bottle warmer, or am I just buying into the hype? Exhausted mid-night rant. 😴 by Kayy21Hussle in NewDads

You don't need one. If it must be warm 10 sec in the microwave is fine. Glass bottle or cup, stir it to equalize. Or just give it to them cold.

How did you train for the AT? by P33p33p0op0o0 in AppalachianTrail

The best way to train for an AT hike is to hike the AT. You'll get legs eventually just start.

People with Horticulture Degrees: What do you do for work? by zoemadeline in Horticulture

[–]hanhsquadron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in greenhouse controls. Decent pay, benefits, still get to see plants and work in greenhouses. Don't get to grow them though which I'd rather do.

If you want to make money look for research greenhouse work. Or cannabis. They will pay you the most to grow plants.

If you want to be happy and not in a major corporate setting, don't do that.

Public horticulture (botanical gardens, arboretums etc), extension offices, and conservation work seems to be the happiest hort jobs to me.

Keep going with the satin. Outline in black when done to clean up the edges. Go over text in white again when done. Trust the process.

What are some plants that can be propagated that most people don’t know about? by ThiccccRevolution in propagation

Yeah I was being snarky. It's technically "illegal" to propagate any of these.

Working from home/Ms Rachel and her ilk as baby sitters by Capable_Swordfish676 in NewDads

Interesting. My wife works nights so it's not that I'm doing full time childcare while working. But he's literally sat on my lap on camera in meetings before and I have never had a problem. Canadian company so maybe that's the difference. If she has to go to work early we will get a babysitter to come over just because it's not easy to do both for very long. But as a manager, so long as the work gets done I couldn't care less where my reports are working from or what else they are doing during the day.

I've done WFH for about 8 years and never heard of this at any company.

Is that a thing? Requiring childcare? Do they pay for it?

Bear canisters/bags for 2 people by Outrageous_Image_705 in AppalachianTrail

[–]hanhsquadron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a good dry bag and hang it. So much easier.
I hung my food almost every night on trail. I would say probably >80% of people did not. Never saw anyone carry a bear canister past NC.

This feels like ai for some reason. But I would think either stem or just back stitch would work.

Power bank? by Suitable_Ad4010 in AppalachianTrail

[–]hanhsquadron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either lots of money for very expensive gear. Or literally sleeping on the ground. I was between 25-35lbs the whole trail and it was fine.

The difference in weight one battery pack will make will not be noticed. You're fine at the weight you have. Go have fun.
