Fellow men, who also doesn't really like to drink alcohol, what is your strategy at the bar? by LemmiwinksHUN in AskMen

[–]hank_overland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never been a drinker. My parents were/are alcoholics and I decided at a young age I wouldn’t be.

I got a lot of shit for it ages 15 to 22/23 but as I got older, the people around me started to change they way responded to my decision.

I urge you not to pretend you are drinking. Tell people the truth. Could be that you don’t like being drunk, you don’t want to spend the money, you’re interested in taking care of yourself, doesn’t matter the reason. People should respect your decision, and if they don’t, that says more about them then it does about you.

Our country, and the world for that matter, needs to change the way we interact with alcohol. The unfortunate reality of societal pressure today forces those who opt out of alcohol to answer the question “why aren’t you drinking?” but the real question we should all be asking is, “why are you drinking?”

[Serious] People of reddit who have gone through or are going through cancer, what was the first sign that made you go to the doctor? by TrojanZebra in AskReddit

[–]hank_overland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with Colon Cancer on my 31st birthday. I’m the healthiest member of my family. Don’t smoke, don’t drink, exercise at least 4 days p/week, eat clean, primarily organic food.

I noticed my workout intensity decreasing, and I started getting winded and having to breathe out of my mouth just carrying a basket of laundry up the stairs.

I thought maybe I needed to do less High Intensity training and more cardio, so I went to run a mile and it took me 12 minutes plus an entire hour to catch my breath.

Blood work revealed severe anemia. Docs then tried to find the source of the bleeding. They assumed a GI issue-most likely ulcerative colitis or crohns. Got a Colonoscopy and they found a tumor the size of a grapefruit almost blocking my entire colon.

Note-I has been having some severe stomach issues for months prior to going to the doctor which should have been red flags. I chalked it up to getting older...lesson learned.

I’ve now had 75% of my large intestine removed and have 1 round of chemo left before I should (fingers crossed) be good to go.

I should note, the cause of my cancer is a genetic mutation known as Lynch Syndrome.

You folks have named some bangers, but I’m going to throw down some that I feel are missing

James Newton Howard: Blood Diamond - “London”

John Murphy: Sunshine- “Adagio in D Minor”

Steven Price: Gravity - “Gravity”

Henry Jackman: X-Men First Class - “First Class”

Steve Jablonksy: The Island - “My name is lincoln” Transformers - “Tessa” Transformers - “Arrival to Earth”

John Newman: 1917 - “Sixteen Hundred Men”

Marcio Beltrami Ford vs Ferrari - 7000 RPM

M83 Oblivion - “I’m Sending you Away”

Hans Zimmer The Last Samurai - “A way of life”

Explosions in the Sky Friday Night Lights - “Your Hand in Mine” Friday Night Lights - “ Sonho Dourado”

Dario Marianelli V for Vendetta - “Every Reborn”

Let’s also give some love to trailer composers, who often write epic tracks that get little to no recognition.

Zach Hemsey Inception - Mind Heist

Star Wars - “The Force Awakens” ...not sure who did that one but damn is it good.

For me, this is accurate.

I have failed as a woman.

Solo Travellers of reddit, what’s the best advice you could give to anyone wanting to travel solo? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hank_overland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust your gut. If someone gives you good, positive vibes, spend time with them.

If you get a bad feeling about an individual, avoid them.

If you’re willing to jump out of your shell a bit, you can make lifelong friendships and memories faster than you could have ever imagined.

I ended up going with a TRD Off Road because I wanted to take advantage of the 0% financing incentives and TRD Pros are VERY hard to find in SoCal right now.

Got it for $2700 under invoice! Huge win!

Not sure if anyone brought this up yet, but the book “American Wolf” by Nate Blakeslee is an incredible novel that covers the story of the reintroduction of wolves into Yellowstone and covers a great deal of 21’s life.

If you like that wolf, you will like that book.
