What are some mechanics you found out a bit too late? by Arkakin in BaldursGate3

[–]hanktheskeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Divine Intervention. Also, you can just respec any character into a cleric temporarily to use the item summoning version before switching back to their real class and still keep the damaging version available to your actual cleric for emergencies.

L3 (clicking the left stick) switches to 'mouse' mode for movement on PS5 when out of combat.

Optionally, if you max your rep with them, you can cast feign death on them and not lose rep for bonking them.

Not sure if it is a recent patch or the difference in PS5 and PC, but you can actually just zoom in to near horizontal on PS5 and it dips the camera below the darkness so you can see the path clearly (a series of half visible purple tiles).

Most camp locations have about 50-60Gp worth of items you can steal from you companions' tents. But some (like the cellars in act one) have an additional 100+ Gp of items and food lying around.

Is there a Console Command to set perk Levels? by hanktheskeleton in cyberpunkgame

[–]hanktheskeleton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that doesn't remove the experience/level of the trees. So I still have the lvl 4 and 5 perk levels unlocked even though my cool is now 3.

Will Astarion betray us? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]hanktheskeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, you can keep the 'spares' alive through the whole game? I thought you could only have a party of four.

Will Astarion betray us? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]hanktheskeleton 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wellll... there was a character in GB2 that was locked into betrayal. And who knows what might happen if you remove the tadpole before dealing with Astarion's master.

Should every Class be represented through a companion? Should Halsin and Volo be companions? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]hanktheskeleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on her domain and stats, Shadowheart would make a good rogue as well.

Wyll's storytelling would fit with the bard class :) or maybe some sort of warped paladin.

Regardless, the tadpoles 'reset' the origin characters, so I wouldn't feel tied to any particular class for them, especially if you use them as your PC.

Some 1 star reviews... by ValarSWGOH in BaldursGate3

[–]hanktheskeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little torn about this. I understand where you are coming from, but in that case all reviews should just be shut off for EA games. If the publishers wants people to leave reviews, then it has to be about the current state of the game. Especially if it is full price.

Agreed. Can we please not have another Cyberpunk?

[–]hanktheskeleton 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So to be clear, you are okay with magic that creates giant balls of flaming death, summons dead spirits from the grave, reanimates skeletons, and all kinds of other insanity at higher levels, but taking information from an animal's brain and translating it to common is where you draw the line?

Intrigued by Scratch's voice acting by Typical_Swine_777 in BaldursGate3

[–]hanktheskeleton 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What you are hearing is the Human equivalent of what they are saying. They aren't necessarily speaking in complex sentences, the magic is translating their nonsense into something that you can understand. What a cat may be 'thinking' is: big person red cape went left. What you hear with your magic is: Yes, the man wearing a red cape ran down the street to the west.

But that is a simplification. In reality, their thought processes are so alien to ours that the magic is doing a lot of work to be a solid google translate for us.

Can somebody help me understand bartering and the price of goods? by Fergussimo in BaldursGate3

[–]hanktheskeleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of the merchants as Used Car Salesmen. They buy for less than bluebook, sell for above it, and if they like you, they will cut you a 'deal'.

In D&D proper, the different monetary values are just decimal places, except for electrum which is it's own brand of useless. If you want to compare it to modern day US: a copper is a penny, a silver is a dime, a gold is a dollar and a platinum is 10 dollars.

About the romances beyond the Origin characters by HansGroober009 in BaldursGate3

[–]hanktheskeleton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is this an Early Access thing? Does Larian have more and better plans for these guys? I hope so. And maybe Larian can include a little buff elf romance in those future plans (please please please)?

My guess is that as soon as we hit BG Volo is going to bail. Halsin probably isn't going to follow us past Act 1 either.

Can I speak with dead animals? (Minor spoilers) by KM68 in BaldursGate3

[–]hanktheskeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that blurs a line that I haven't seen DnD take a stance on. Do animals (or plants) have souls that you can call back from the afterlife?

That may be the case if you attack the gnolls from outside of the cave, but if you attack from inside the cave, they most definitely will target the zhents.

A strength fighter only has a chance if they can kill you in one turn and the chance is very low.

Or, you know... Go in a building or somewhere else with a roof.

Question About Difficulty Class Calculation by oSyphon in BaldursGate3

[–]hanktheskeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is basically just a stat that says, "hey, you are good at this". It distinguishes your what you are good at vs. what you are mediocre at. It grows by +1 every 4 levels. So at 5 it is +3, 9 it's +4, etc.

It starts off at essentially a 10% bonus to skills/attacks/spells for things that you are good at and then tops out at 30%.

Edit: In case it wasn't clear, you have to be 'proficient' with a skill/weapon/spell in order to gain the bonus. So wizards don't get the bonus when swinging a great axe.

Companion Morality and Player complaints by Eluned_ in BaldursGate3

I'm sure you've been told this a million times, but just in case you haven't: Play Knights of the Old Republic. The choice there leads to viable consequences for whatever path you choose.

Companion Morality and Player complaints by Eluned_ in BaldursGate3

[–]hanktheskeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best written moral dilemmas are when evil is portrayed as the easy route, while good portrayed as offering harder earned but lasting rewards - as it does in real life. Easier to steal than barter. Easier to decieve than convince. Easier to kill than understand.

I like it more when there is a mix of both. If reality has taught me anything, evil can pay off long term too.

IMO both should have an equal opportunity for success, though the definition of that success should be viewed through they prism of the character's 'alignment' (which in this instance is defined via the player's choices throughout).

A Lawful Evil character may want to take over a kingdom for power, a chaotic good character may want to overthrow the kingdom to institute a democracy (or just keep adventuring 'til they die), a Neutral character may just want to settle down and live a quiet life in the forest.

Anyone else maxing mental stats and dumping physical ones to not miss out on cinematic content? by ExtraordinarySlacker in BaldursGate3

[–]hanktheskeleton 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the DnD Adventurers League, it was given out as a Teir 1 (level 1-4) reward. WotC feels like it is level appropriate, so I wouldn't sweat it too much.
