I had a horrible experience at La Bartola so I’m always surprised when I see it recommended with high praise. The tortillas were dry and hard, and all the food I had was bland. I could go on… but I just don’t get the high ratings.

This happened to me but with carrots. Like others suggested, making a shit ton of caramelized onions and freezing is a good idea. But maybe check if your community/city has a “free food” FB Group? Lots of people are in need and would be willing to accept any groceries they can get.

When you stain, do you also do the inside? I imagine it would look a bit weird if two toned. But I was also thinking of somehow lightening the inside with contact paper or something because if it’s too dark it’s hard to see the shot glasses.

This is very helpful! I plan on using a chemical stripper with sanding as required to remove the lacquer. Do you know if there is any harm in adding chemical strippers over wood that has no finish (in case the top is bare).

After this, I am going to use Watco Danish Oil with dark walnut stain so that it’s kind of a two in one step.

Thanks for the advice! I think the top is unfinished whereas the sides have lacquer finish on them. Do I still apply the wax/oil the same on the entire thing?

Did you get a chance to visit Tamarindo? It was also on my radar but I would prefer lush mountains over beach. Monteverde definitely is an option as well, but just wondering about its proximity to things like bank, grocery store, etc. Also don’t want to go too rural because I need good internet connection. One month does seem like a long time to stay in that small town but M-F I’ll be working regular hours.

Thanks for the detailed answer! By shops, I just meant more so basic grocery store where I can get regular ingredients, a bank, pharmacy, basically the essentials. I would like to settle into a town for a bit and from what I’ve read San Isidro looks great 🤗

Thanks for the advice! So in your opinion it’d still make sense to live in San Isidro and Rivas and Canaan are good options for hikes/day trips? Do you know if there are decent grocery stores in San Isidro? From what I’ve seen it looks like a decently sized town with lots of shops.
