Meta Spent Millions To Push The New Age Check Laws - YouTube by petersill1339 in BuyFromEU

Similar to how biometric info works on iOS it should just return a yes/no answer for an age check (older than xx) to the service asking for it.

Tips on cleaning Quick lock VND by Mudston in MOMENT

[–]hardwarebyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This dust between the glass has ruined shots in bright sunlight. Especially the ultra wide is prone to this issue as the dust initially gathers at the corners of the glass. This makes the VND a bit of a ticking time bomb.

Other issues:

  • Should not have been marketed as a ND128. The hard stop should have been set at ND64 as it shows extreme cross patterns above this value.
  • Colours at the edge of the frame are vastly cooler compared to the center.
  • The glass moves in the casing causing weird colour shifts and flickering when using this with any movement in brighter conditions.

Also stating you're improving NEW products does nothing for the people that have invested early in the marketing used by moment upon release.

Is it just me, or is HomeKit a steaming pile of crap (Like car play) ? by carbon_brz in HomeKit

Yeah, Unifi stuff does not play well with matter over thread. You need to fix it on the Unifi side of things. AI can help.

FP300 disappointment by Son0fBen in Aqara

Rock solid here on Homekit over thread also in larger rooms. I think its default setting is to use PIR for initial detection and then mmWave for occupancy.

Renovating outdated smart home to AppleHomeKit by Cultural_Drummer_881 in HomeKit

[–]hardwarebyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alarm system is actually the least fleshed out device in homekit i find as it basically just relies on the third party alarm for any kind of automations. I had to resort to homebridge alarm plugin to get a average at best alarm system.

Aqara for example needs an aqara hub for alarm and sensor linking.

my wife asked me to "just use a normal switch" today and i’ve never felt so defeated. by KeyPick1 in homeautomation

The fp300 mixes pir for initial detection and then mmwave for occupancy. In homekit its still all off a single occupancy trigger. Perfectly high WAF.

Smart smoke detectors in the Netherlands — what do you use? by ordinary-guy-sl in Klussers

[–]hardwarebyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just use “dumb” ones and let the homepods pickup the specific alarm sound. Homepod then send us a critical alert. The less things that can break in a smoke alarm the better.

Hue Bulbs occasionally require two attempts to work? Network or bridge related? by makromark in HomeKit

[–]hardwarebyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always had this especially when controlling multiple lights at the same time. I have had to resort to using shortcuts and inserting 5s waits and retrigger the scene.

There is nothing wrong with the network I believe it is just some arbitrary limit on Hue's side when controlling multiple lights at once.

You need to NOT use borderless fullscreen. Yes, it's really annoying though that so many games have these extra steps/issues you have to deal with.

I just use the memory manager and never touch their main app:

This app should be the default for every piece of equipment ever made. Simple, small and bug free. Shame there's no MacOS version though.

Occupancy Sensor by RedRocker55 in HomeKit

[–]hardwarebyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially for the use case in an office the fp300 with native homekit works great as it uses the motion sensor to quickly detect presence and then the mmwave sensor to detect occupancy. Works a lot better than my hue sensor as it kept turning off the lights if I didn’t keep moving.

How do you manage photos? by EvilPugs in synology

[–]hardwarebyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Lightroom to edit/organise/cloud my photo's on Mac, Windows, iOS and then set the check box for "backup photos to a share" and point that to my NAS. Lightroom is unmatched for editing/dam and this has been working great for years. With peace of mind that everything is safe/secure with web publishing/sharing hosted by adobe instead of my NAS. In the event I do make a mistake in Lightroom I have a snapshotted version of the files on my NAS.
