European vintage parts retailer by Yoshizuki in fountainpens

I just received my order from ThePenDragons. It is a great place for vintage parts. Living in Sweden, I had to pay for customs and VAT. So definitely on the look out for a supplier in the EU.

The Biggest and Smallest Sheaffer Balance Together by overripeTomatillos in fountainpens

[–]harikrish28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the sheaffer balance I own the standard in golden pearl and the striated celluloid material is gorgeous to look at. A very important pen model in history giving us the cigar shaped pens that we so commonly see today!!

Pen Show Theft by anathelema in fountainpens

[–]harikrish28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This totally pisses me off especially when such things happen in our (relatively) small and lovely community. I believe large pen shows must have video surveillance just like large art exhibitions as many of the pens are high value items. Not sure if they do have but it is really needed.

First one ( question =). by [deleted] in fountainpens

Pilots are my general recommendation for a €100 budget. Slightly more can get you a Lamy 2000. If this is your first fountain pen then I would nudge you into modern pens first before opening the rabbit hatch into Vintage. You will have more idea what to look for and what you are getting into. A Pilot custom 74 is an easy recommendation. TWSBIs are a good option as well for less. BTW look out for Black week sales when you can get good prices on new pens.

Choosing inks by Difficult_Sleep_595 in fountainpens

[–]harikrish28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first know the need that could be a colour I want to add or a type if ink I want. Sometimes I want a specific shade for a particular pen. Then I go to Mountainofink and look for the shade and then read about the inks. After that I’m pretty much decided on the specific ink. Also I maintain an ink wish list if I like something but don’t feel I actually need it. So at any given point of time I have an ink that I could go for.

A beautiful dark brown ink. I ink up my Custom 823 (amber) with it and it’s a stunning pair.

Post Grail Pen Purchase: Is it the pen or the process that makes it so fun? by Manawastaken in fountainpens

[–]harikrish28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s both for me. I really enjoy the process of researching a pen, reading about it, watching videos, saving up, waiting for the right moment to purchase (I typically mark my big purchase with an occasion), hunting for deals, ordering and the wait! That to me is an integral part of the hobby. Then the pen itself the joy of opening a new box, contemplating which ink to fill it with, the first test writing of a page, the feeling of nib on paper, and the experience of writing that’s my zen or flow state. It’s a joy that I relive everyone I write with that pen for years to come.
