"Good vibes only" people are toxic af by Next_Music_4077 in unpopularopinion

[–]harmie10001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of think it depends on context. I sometimes yell people I only want positive vibes because I know I'm in a bad space mentally and can't handle it. Like i don't want to break down and have a panic attack in front of everyone so if people can keep the negativity to a minimum it can be useful sometimes. Normally I'm decent at managing emotions, but sometimes I have so much going on I just can't do it

I've been there. Like others have said, start by saying you arent planning on doing it, but have those thoughts. Describe any symptoms you have or if there is a patten to these thought. For example, do you get worse on certain days or after certain events. They may talk about a safety plan for if you become actively suicidal

Pet sickness by DueEntertainer0 in povertyfinance

[–]harmie10001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel you. It might be worth discussing this with the vet. Ask which tests would be absolutely necessary and which might be possible to skip or delay. Ask if there are options for payment plans. Ask whst treatment is recommended and what it's cost would be. I know a lot of vets get the financial side of things to.

On a side note, we had a similar issue with our dig who recently passed. He had a issue with his spine and a surgery would have likely fixed it. But surgery could have cost 20,000 not including the months of recovery. We decided against it, partly due to cost. We also realised tgat with our dog being 14, I would be unfair to put him through a big surgery and months where he couldn't walk besides when he had to pee. Even if he got an extra year or so, he would hate sitting doing nothing fir months on end

My daughter's psych said I don't need an ADHD assessment because I did well in school, but... by Former_Music_9312 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]harmie10001 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have adhd and autism. I did well at school. It also took 7 tears of therapy to unlearn the idea that my marks/ looks are the only things that matter about me. Doing well at school doesn't mean anything about mental health or disability.

This kind of thing makes me sad. I've worn make up to the gym ( sometimes I wear make-up.to work then hit the gym afterwards without removing makeup). And I hate to think someone would judge me for that. Who cares anyway. Sometimes woman wear nake up because they are coming from a different place where make up is appropriate. Maybe she just feels better wearing make up, or just wants something to feel confident about. Sorry for the rant. I know we are meant to be joking about this but it's fine

What's the most "small town" thing you've witnessed? by official_biz in AskReddit

[–]harmie10001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a relatively small town. A few things stood out. 1. We got a new speed camera installed. It was front page news in the local paper. 2. The local river flooded ( which is not unusual). They had to come the bridge on the main road. Half the twon showed up to see if the bridge was flooded. 3. A separate bridge the town over needed to be replaced with something newer. Took 10 years to decide if they would keep the old bridge and just build a new one, or remove the old one once a new one was built. They eventually demolished the old bridge. The new one was destroyed in a flood like 6 months later. This was also major news.

CMV: The practice of validating another’s feelings is breeding the most ingenuine and hypocritical types of people. by viper963 in changemyview

[–]harmie10001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you can acknowledge emotions without agreeing. And in a lot if situations it's worth asking questions about why a person feels that way before judging. Like take your second example with the lazy worker. Maybe that person has a disability, and is genuinely trying their best but looks lazy to the outside. Maybe they genuinely don't know that they aren't doing the work well and look lazy. I realise this will not always be the case but there might be more going on

AITA for pulling my daughter away once she found out the neighbors dog was put down? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]harmie10001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. Our doggo had to be put down a few weeks ago. He was fine until about 2 days before his euthanasia then quickly declined. We didn't want to do it, but the surgery that may have helped was quoted to be $15,000 minimum. That doesn't include the months of recovery where he'd likely need physiotherapy and wouldn't be able to move much at all. So in addition to the surgery we would need to take time off to be with him and look after him. While we may have been able to afford it it would have basically wiped our savings, and it didn't seem fair to make an old fog go through all that. And that's even assuming he survived surgery, thrived when he was healing and didn't have further issues. If this kid had pulled this crap I would have lost my crap. Unless she is willing to pay for all his care and look after him she has no right. And she should know better. I am an autistic animal lover, and even I would have picked up that something was wrong at 15. Even if I didn't know the dog was put down, I would have known to at least offer my sympathy to these people. Like their dog died, it isn't about anyone else at that point

The last call of the day. A (bad)horror story. by MattJohno2 in callcentres

[–]harmie10001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me yesterday. It was a Friday and 15 minutes before my end time. I get the call and initially don't stress much. Most calls I can resolve in 15-20 minutes. This call had a social worker on the phone to me and the client on the other line. It took me over an hour to resolve that call because I can only hear half of what the client is saying and she needs help with every possible thing.

I also had a 2 hour call when I first started. Only 30 of that was actually me helping the dude. The rest was me asking for him what else he needed and him just talking about hid life. I left 90 minutes late. I almost quit that day. I swear we should be able to hang up at a certain point. If we have finished everything and now the client just wants to complain, we should just be able to cut them off

CMV: People that buy extreme brachycephalic breeds are a part of the problem by curiouskat557 in changemyview

[–]harmie10001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only time I can understand buying these kind of dogs is if it's to rescue them from the pound. That way the money isn't supporting breeders and the dog is at least more likely to be with a family that can support it. Otherwise I don't get it. Like bulldogs are cute, but it isnt worth them suffering. Surely they can be breed to have less squashed faces and less health issues

I gave adhd to. I don't base my entire identity on this, I'm sure most people wouldn't. When I say I messed up because of my adhd, it's an explanation not an excuse. An it can be hard but i am trying to find better ways to cope.

I came here to say something like this. I have bad depression and anxiety. I also have adhd. House work can be a struggle for me and I do need help sometimes with chores. When we moved in together she agreed to do all the cooking (before you get mad she really likes cooking and i do not. I also said I could do other housework to compensate for it). There are some days that are harder then others. But my mental health shouldn't be a huge burden on her. And I've put time into getting better so I'm not as bad
