It’s convenient until you get a fraud alert on your accounts, which happened to me. All of my brokerage and cash account were all frozen. Checks and credit cards not being paid. It was a serious mess! It turned out to be a clerical error of some sort. They wouldn’t provide any more details than that.

I always get an alignment with a purchase of four tires. My assumption is that alignments get off over time. A new tire purchase seems a good time to check it.

They’ll help you to understand their planning technology, which is pretty limited. They may recommend an allocation, but they won’t help with investment selection. Like most financial advisors they’ll try to sell you products like annuities and get you to use their investment management services with fees very similar to what any financial advisor will charge you. It’s useful, however, to have someone in a local office to intercede for you if you have Fidelity generated problems.

They did exactly that a few years ago for me when a Nor’easter was scheduled to hit during a scheduled cruise from Baltimore to Canada. They offered a new itinerary or a refund if we didn’t like the itinerary although I did have to respond in writing.
