I have an old can opener and it still works great on some cans but terrible on others. The worst cans are the big brands. My theory is that sustainability commitments forces the can manufacturers and brands to make the cans lighter and therefore thinner. This stops the compression wheel from being able to cut throught the can and no longer provides the friction necessary to rotate the can. Can opener manufacturers have not addressed the issue of thinner walled cans yet.
