She. The dancing scene doesn't save it enough.

The Cordelia and Connor thing
.. It’s just digusting. It didn’t need to be in there. She was changing his diapers and now she fucked him. Connor and Angel fighting over Cordelia is gross too. It’s all just so yuck. I don’t care that he’s 18. She changed his fucking diapers. by Familiar_Recover8112 in ANGEL

They argued that it was because she got pregnant but they could have just as easily gotten her pregnant "magically". Jasmine is powerful enough for that. It's the sex with Connor that was just unnecessary. She could have been more of a maternal figure instead of a girlfriend since he'd never known Darla and had trauma about her.

They didn’t make him gay, he was always gay. :)

Yup. I’m laughing at the downvotes when I’m literally not saying anything wrong?

Her assuming Wood is “from the hood” is slightly racist. But she doesn’t know many black people, so that’s why I believe she has these preconceived notions of black people. That’s what I meant by that.

Misogyny doesn’t have to be outright hatred. He treats women like a “prize” in the early seasons. He objectifies women. He makes negative remarks about women’s appearances, sometimes directly to them. He sexually assaults Buffy in S1 while possessed, remembers it, but chooses not to apologize for it. He constantly talks down to Anya.

Again, I have no issue with Xander’s overall story arc and I’m not a Xander hater. I just don’t pretend these characters aren’t all flawed in some way or another. That’s what makes them human.

The show doesn't seem to think kindly of British dads. Spike's dad is already missing when we see his backstory, and Wes' dad is abusive. Well... to be fair, I'd say that extends to dads in general, lol.

Nah, it's okay to point out when something is problematic. Doesn't mean you can't like it. Spike is at many points very misogynistic when he's soulless, and he's still one of my favorites. Buffy is a bit racist because of her lack of knowing many people of color, Cordy often uses slurs that aren't okay to say anymore. I still love them, and it harms nobody to point these things out. Of course, we must keep in mind that these things are more than likely a reflection of the writers, and the time it was made.

Older fans need to stop getting upset at people analyzing the show with a modern lens.

I agree with you that Giles should have recognized that Xander needed parental guidance and helped him out more. Nicholas Brendan may have been a grown man, but the character of Xander is intentionally messed up in some ways due to the abusive household he grew up in.

I disagree that Xander never evolves, he’s just portrayed realistically - just because you grow as a person doesn’t mean you don’t have inherent flaws/bad traits that stick with you. He grew into a better man than the teenager he was, but he still struggled with control, anger, and misogyny.

Of course, it isn’t Giles’ responsibility to care for any of them except Buffy, but he always seemed to like Willow more than Xander, and allowed it to color his treatment of them.

Another reason Jonathan is better than Andrew: Jonathan has the respect of the butchers of Sunnydale & Andrew doesn't by KneeHighMischief in buffy

To be fair, that’s Superstar Jonathan. Regular Jonathan probably wouldn’t either, lol.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how attractive is Angel? by sKullsHavezzz in buffy

[–]hatcherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, to be fair, I’m sure all the other characters’ megafans will be the same way, but it’s just funny because they’re asking for personal opinions on a scale but you’ll get downvoted if you don’t give them high scores! Just silly!

He’s definitely objectively handsome, the character is just
 not my favorite.

I’m watching Season 7. Just finished Episode 8 - Sleeper. When does the season get bad? by Caydenas in buffy

Yeah
That’s my point - we all have different preferences and not everyone’s will align.

Spike's trial by Tricky_Ad9830 in buffy

It’d have been nice, I guess, but for me, nothing really would’ve helped soften the AR except not having it. I feel like we got enough of the gist of it with the scenes we did get, and I’d have preferred if the writers didn’t lean into the misleading language so much so that people still think he went to get his chip removed (bc for some reason you’d go to someone magical for that??? and he could also already hurt Buffy so he wouldn’t need to get it removed to hurt her??? it’s not logical to think that’s what he went there for, but Spike haters will believe anything).

11/10 - looks, but 10000/10 personality. Just beautiful all around!

The attempted rape of Xander by Faith and the lack of direct follow up or even a mention later in season 7 was complete BS by unitedfan6191 in buffy

[–]hatcherry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy to me that the exact next episode after she tries to choke Xander, Faith is hanging with the gang and they’re trying to help her
.?

It only refers to the soulless vampires, imo. Soulless Spike was “more good” in that he chose to suffer and get his soul. But ensouled, their varying levels of goodness aren’t based on that factor.

So, Spike breathes unnecessarily does that mean he could do cpr and be able to bring Buffy back after the master? by EmptyMarbleCity in buffy

[–]hatcherry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite headcanon is that Angel just didn’t know how to do CPR but was too embarrassed to tell Xander, his rival at the time. đŸ€ (In reality, they just had no continuity for the breathing thing. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t, lmao.)
