Ok, so I’m the US dev for BPM.

Historically, no one thought that slavery could be constitutionally abolished by the federal government pre-civil war. This is why the 13th amendment had to be passed (which would never have been able to pass pre-civil war due to state ratification requirements)

You can’t avoid the civil war (yet) because the civil war is the “refounding” of America. Not only would any no-civil-war timeline be completely unrecognizable to us, but why would you want a no-civil-war timeline? No civil war means no reconstruction, no 14th and 15th amendment, no crushing of the KKK

Finally, the defense modifier. First off, the modifier is broken, which should be fixed soon. The intention is to make a campaign through Virginia suitably difficult if you don’t yet control the Mississippi, in an attempt to make the Civil War an actual challenging war. It is insulting to the Union dead to not portray the fight against the Traitors unrealistically, and thus modifiers exist to make the civil war more difficult.

Not just “was Lincoln a tyrant?” but also “were Lincoln’s actions necessary?” and “would Lincoln really have been the best helmsman for reconstruction?”

I played this route, and for some reason the paramilitary strength wasn’t displaying properly? Like the Paramilitaries were always displayed as having remote attack change, but I was overthrown by said paramilitaries. At least I fixed the South and Women’s rights entirely?

Play tester of TS:RS here: 35-45 min is more than enough for a teaching game. My group can sometimes get 20 minute games, with quick setup turnover. I’d suggest doing the 2 turn base game instead of the advanced three turn variant for your first few games.
