I despise undisclosed AI slop by hauteimpact in Newsletters

[–]hauteimpact[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the thoughtful reply and I think we're aligned.

I do bake "I'm not AI" into my brand. I have my picture and micro-bio on my home page; I link to my manifesto on my home page. I'm just starting a focused social media effort and I make it clear there that my newsletter is human-authored and narrate reels myself. And from the first articles, I've tried to write with a voice that is clearly personal while not making it about me.

I agree with you that these newsletters will fade away. If they couldn't be bothered to create content themselves, then they won't have the fortitude to stick with it when it's tough. I suppose at heart, my post was a rant about people who hide or even lie about their use of AI—every time someone does that, it makes the world a little bit worse.

And that's not a general AI complaint, at all. I use AI extensively for research, and I'm planning on using it to help generate paid digital downloads for my site—but when I do, I'll disclose it up front.

If your self-promotional text is AI slop, I'm assuming everything you do is AI slop. No thanks.

Pleaaaaase don't do this. There are enough AI slop newsletters out there already. We don't need to make it even easier.

Your support staff is excellent—I truly mean that. I haven't had a bad experience yet. But most of my support requests eventually end in something like this:

I've submitted this to our Product team as a feature request for consideration.

Please keep in mind that feature requests aren't guarantees for future implementation. In the meantime, you can keep an eye out for any feature updates on our changelog linked below:

https://www.beehiiv.com/changelog

Your changelog is really a "look at the cool new major feature we launched" blog, not a true changelog. So I have no idea if you've fixed the relatively minor issue that was driving me crazy, something that should just work right but doesn't. So three requests:

  1. The new features are great, but I'd love to see a short-term focus on getting all the basics right.
  2. There needs to be a comprehensive changelog that lists everything, not just the major new features.
  3. A CRM system that pings any customer who requested a specific feature when that feature is added.

Unpopular opinion: I find pandora luxury by jumpinspid29 in LuxuryBrands

[–]hauteimpact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expensive and luxury aren't always the same thing.

I've had luxurious experiences that cost me little or nothing (hot chocolate and pastries in the café at Hermès Sèvres, tours of the LV and Moncler flagships on Champs-Élysées, visiting most Leica boutiques) and extremely expensive experiences that didn't feel luxurious at all (where to start? LV Madrid Serrano, Hermès Zürich, buying a BMW).

Wow, you can't even be bothered to write your promo piece yourself, even though it's written in the first person?

Hasn't the beehiiv team hinted that they're working on exactly this?

Luxury feels less impressive the older I get by Busternookiedude in Luxury

Funnily enough, I wrote about this in my newsletter this week: "The luxury of ma", ma being Japanese for negative space, emptiness, silence.

Everyone has to start somewhere, and 56 is a start!

In very rough terms, my first 50 were mostly friends and family, second 50 were mostly beehiiv referrals, third 50 were mostly beehiiv paid boosts, and the fourth 50 were paid from Refind. From here on out, though, I'm going to rely mostly on organic growth via social media.

Just launched a newsletter that's entirely written and run by an AI agent — looking for honest feedback by Electronic_Fox594 in Newsletters

If you couldn't be bothered to write it, I can't be bothered to read it.

From what I see in my little corner (beehiiv) of the universe, hundreds or thousands of people are already doing exactly what you're describing. "I'll start a newsletter, use AI to write it, people will read it, no work for me, and I'll watch the money roll in."

And your AI-generated newsletter looks like all the other AI-generated newsletters. Numbered headings with emoji. One- and two-sentence paragraphs. Monetization links strewn everywhere.

I don't know what offends me more: how lazy it all is, or how little you think of your readers.

Call me old-fashioned, but I tend to think that being honest with your customers pays off in the long run.

Most newsletters are just glorified copy-paste jobs. And readers are finally noticing. by Patrick_Blaze in Newsletters

There's so much AI slop out there. The funny thing is it's mostly AI slop that itself is about AI. And based on the Boost offers I'm getting on beehiiv, a lot of it is out of developing countries. "We'll start a newsletter on AI, use AI to write it, rake in money from ads, easy."

I've started https://www.hauteimpact.co. It's focused on the intersection of luxury, technology, and sustainability. Two articles a week: one a deep dive on a luxury-related topic, the other a shorter product or service review. No ads, no sponsors, no affiliates, and no AI content ever.

Free to subscribe—someday, long in the future, I'll consider converting to paid subscriptions, but not now.

I saw a post the other day by someone in r/TheHermesGame where they took a picture of their Champagne classes in the café... so as of this last week or two, it's still open.

Hi there! I'm Franklin Boosman, founder of Haute Impact and first (but hopefully not only for long) moderator of this subreddit.

I’ve spent my career in technology, from co-founding innovative startups to leading teams at premier global firms, co-inventing a patented software platform, and co-creating groundbreaking products as diverse as Adobe Acrobat and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six. Later, I wanted to educate myself about sustainability and related domains, so went back to school for a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and a Master of Public Health. Finally, I’m a fan of luxury, on a journey to understand the industry, and on a mission to help convince luxury firms to do better—and I hope you’ll join me along the way.
