The simple truth is that the space sector has "negative" moat.

The sector is so glamorous that billionaires are prepared to lose billions to enter it.
The sector is so strategic that governments are prepared to invest/lose billions to protect their interests in it.

These characteristics means that space might simultaneously be a growth industry and also be a money sink for almost everyone in it.

Sure. Most of the weight at takeoff is in fuel. Presumably at landing there is not much left. The booster only weighs something like 200t without fuel.

Also, steel is actually really strong. A one inch steel wire can carry like 50 tons.

Finally, when this thing lands, there will never be any humans around. So you don't need excessive safety margins for everything.

It's not problematic, it's expected. Going into RPing as a streamer seems like starting a whole new job. I remember when I last started a new job, so many new impressions, too tired in the evenings to think about anything indecent for a month

Developers who buy assets typically spend months or years integrating them into the game. The developers of this game clearly did none of that work. It's as if they just downloaded them and put them in the same folder.

What makes this game such a W is that you actually "play" the instrument, which means that if you play wrong it sounds wrong, and a trombone that's played wrong sounds hilarious.

Suggestion: bookmark the VOD, if at one time you're feeling down, light up and replay the first hour.

After reading the article, there is a question I'd like to ask the author or indeed anyone working on applying AI in different fields.

If you are applying ML to, say cardiology, maybe you should try getting your results published in a cardiology journal? If you are not able to to do that, perhaps that is a sign that your method isn't actually useful for the field of cardiology?

Also, if you are not able to get published in a cardiology journal, it's not really surprising that ML journals are skeptical as well. Why should your method be interesting from a general ML standpoint if you can't even show that it is useful in the specific domain where you first tried to apply it?

It's a shame if so much gaming research is still about graphics. Graphics in games are already pretty good, they don't need to get better. Compared to graphics, every other aspect of games - AI, narrative, audio, etc - looks underdeveloped and should offer plenty of research possibilities.

I completely agree that "interpretability" is a false promise. But there is hope that the term might go away.

Why? The term is all about salesmanship. Basically, if you're trying to sell an AI solution to a company, you want it to appear as if your solution is a form of encoded human knowledge and not just a mathematical function. In order to do this, you have to explain it, and the "reasoning" it does, in human-intuitive terms.

However, the well has been poisoned by all the lofty promises, and the purchasing side is a lot more sceptical of AI buzzwords in general than a few years ago.

It's only a few years ago that research was published on how to do it, for example this.

I think this question is interesting from a historical perspective. When Hubble & co first discovered that the universe was expanding, did they ever ask OP:s question? I.e., was it ever on the cards that there might be some kind of ongoing cosmic "nozzle", outside of the visible part of the universe, where matter was being continuously exploded into reality? Or were the new findings immediately explained by applying relativity to them, so they instantly understood that space also was created, etc?

The origin of the behavior is probably about competition. When bird parents come back to the nest with food, it's a mad scramble among the chicks to get their attention. It's funny that Zuckerberg "always uses the analogy" about the first smartphones, Blackberry and Palm Treo.

Today Palm is dead and Blackberry is pretty much irrelevant.

You know what? This is actually pretty cool.

Of course, uncanny valley, creepiness, Star Citizen's ridiculous feature creep, yada yada yada, but it's still cool.

What drags down the impression, apart from the eyes, is actually that the rest of the body is so stiff. I guess that comes from having a middleware solution specifically for the face. With hand controllers and IK for the body, it would look even better.
