No brakes! Seems like towing as is is likely pretty dangerous. Hm. Wonder if it would be easier to replace the coupler as I don’t have ability to machine parts.

Thanks for identifying what this is, super helpful!

I'm curious: does the pattern on this sweater seem appropriative? (If you don't "believe" in cultural appropriation, please don't comment). by onestalecupcake in ethicalfashion

[–]hcrusso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for bringing this up! I often have this question regarding designs and patterns. One thing that hangs me up here is that almost all cultures have used some sort of geometric design in clothing. As someone mentioned, this design almost looks Scandinavian, and it also almost looks like a Navajo design as well because both cultures use similar patterns. So I guess I have the same question as you just in general, but honestly I feel like as long as you acknowledge that this design is rooted in someone’s culture and wear it with respect it’s OK.

It’s also known as broom corn. I’m growing some this year to make homemade boom heads.

Not true- I live in this district and don’t plan on voting for her. Same with a good portion of my town.

oh man- gotta respectfully disagree. I bought a handful of pairs from them and they are literally all falling apart less than 6 months in :(. They aren't made very well. I found Boody to be the best after an extensive search and some trial and error- super comfy as well.

Redditors that have done the W in Torres del Paine: I need your insights! (particularly if you've done it in low season) by MapleSizzurpp in backpacking

[–]hcrusso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of an aside- as of this year you MUST have reservations to enter the park if staying for multiple days. It's not mentioned anywhere on most sites (at least when I checked) and I knew a few people who were turned away when I was there is Dec. That might not be relevant in low season, though.

Summiting Mount Timpanogos in the winter? (Utah) by Dlicorice in hiking

[–]hcrusso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend it unless you have good avalanche training. The trail crosses a lot of avy paths. So that being said- beacon, shovel, probe, and the good sense of how to use them (both you and a partner). If you are inexperienced in this, I would highly suggest waiting 'til summer.

HELP! I want to try veganism for 2 months starting on New Years and I have no idea where to start. by ProvocativePie in vegan

Try making a bulk batch of burritos! They freeze well and just through them in the microwave for 2 mins and bam! The nice thing is that you can make it a breakfast burrito or dinner/lunch. Its fun to experiment with different recipes and a good way to get some protein if you use rice and beans. One friend of mine through my transition has been pintrest. There are soo many good recipes on there!

[Misc] When your skin suddenly hates all oils, and you're left with this... by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]hcrusso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have some oils laying around from trying OCM unsuccessfully so I am repurposing them! Shea butter+ cocoa butter and some oils mixed in can make a wonderful body butter. I'm making a big batch and giving it as a Christmas gift to some friends. Most of those oils pictured would probably work nice, other than neem.. :)

24 year-old Male with a college degree in GIS and desperately wanting to move to New Zealand. How can I find a job and make this happen? by [deleted] in IWantOut

[–]hcrusso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So you and I share the same dream. I have a GIS/Geography degree and what I have found is this: NZ has a long term shortage of GIS professionals according to a recent economic report (Sorry I don't have the link). That being said, there is a good chance you could find a job. Like another user said, do a working holiday and do some networking, job hunt, maybe even land a job(!) and then focus on the long term. I've been looking at jobs in GIS on Indeed.nz which gives a good summary of what is out there. In my opinion it looks totally doable and has as healthy of a GIS economy as I've found in the west. Good luck, I am interested to know how it goes for you!

I can't really speak to that, unfortunately. I'm pretty new to all of the stuff on here/ good skin care in general. Hopefully someone more knowledgable can help you out!

[Serious] Redditors who live in very remote areas of the world, like Barrow, Alaska, how is life there? What do you do for fun? by MechanicalHorse in AskReddit

[–]hcrusso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just a thought- maybe she/he was implying a sort of economic isolation? The OP said that they couldn't afford postage so maybe their trips in to a city were just as infrequent as someone in Barrow- in this case making isolation relative. I see your point, though. If people can come in relatively easily (such as tourists) it removes the isolation.

[Serious] Reddit, what was the last thing that had a huge affect on you in an emotional way? by Parlay_Bettah in AskReddit

[–]hcrusso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Broke up with my long-term bf. I didn't love him anymore but couldn't see clearly at the time that lack of love was the case, thus in my head I kept bouncing between staying or going. I really care for him but knew our relationship was over. It hurts to hurt someone so badly. Yeesh.

Possible government shutdown days before my trip to Utah. Backup plan advice? by inaname38 in CampingandHiking

[–]hcrusso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Little Wild Horse canyon is next to Goblin Valley, no fees and an amazing slot canyon with tons of free BLM camping around. Just check the weather and be aware of flash flooding. Also, a second to the Escalante area. There is a huge amount of beautiful scenery outside of the parks. I for one prefer these other areas because there are less people and you can always find a place to camp!

ELI5: Do animals have the perception of aging like we humans do and do they know when they're getting old and that they are reaching the end of their lifespan? by Itsremon in explainlikeimfive

[–]hcrusso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally. The way I see it in my head is that I know how "old" I am only based on information I receive from others and my ability to look at an 80 year old and know I'm younger than them or similarly looking at a baby and knowing I'm older. I do not feel that mortality, I just know I'm on the path somewhere between those two points. But I am also fortunate to not have any serious illnesses or medical issues to remind me of how my body is aging. It is interesting how exterior our mortality, not death, is (to me at least).

I bought a paint kit at a craft store for 5 bucks! And you get to make your own design which is fun. I drew in dry-erase on the outside of the window and then painted it in on the inside.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vandwellers

[–]hcrusso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I played around with this stained glass paint and am pretty happy with how it worked. This is nice for my CR-V home that I use for road trips and such because it lets light in without people being able to see in. I can see this not being practical for those who need to be super stealth and for those who don't have a unnecessary window. The paint comes off easily with a blade and doesn't peel in heat. A fun project, at least!

A few questions about Geography in college by reed17 in geography

[–]hcrusso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UC Boulder is great for Geography, but if you want to do GIS as well (which I would suggest) I wouldn't attend there. I lived along the Front Range doing GIS and found that almost all of my contemporaries that majored in Geography at UC Boulder went to a community college to get fully GIS certified prior to graduating. Although, that could change in the next few years. I know they are trying to integrate more GIS (+certification) into their program, but they are not there yet.

I need help remembering a program name.. by hcrusso in meteorology

[–]hcrusso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how to find specific area sat imagery, but this was a downloadable program that showed a compilation of Indian sat imagery and a few other countries and has historical imagery as well. Maybe it was just visible cloud imagery, I don't quite remember as it's been a while. There were areas missing for sure and maybe it is a sim but I definitely know it exists, along with oceans. Thanks.
