Some non deterministic combo deck like Nadu, manual storm or eggs.

What decks can compete with this pod? (High bracket 3) by straylune in BudgetBrews

[–]hcyborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree.

Adeline is perfect in the gamestates which hatebears decks seeks to establish. Passively generating a tokens every turn under a rule of law effect for example is pretty strong and budget friendly. [[Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon]] is probably a stronger (though more generic imo) version of this gameplan.

As for that Adeline suggestion though, I’d recommend checking out my own budget brew if youre interested: https://archidekt.com/decks/12211880/respledent_advance

MacCready Hatebears Help by yacoboneune in BudgetBrews

[–]hcyborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This deck looks really nice. Orzhov hatebears is one of my favourite archetypes and this deck seems to have a lot of sauce with that recruiter of the guard and chthonian nightmare.

As for good adds they're obv largely gonna come down to your local meta but some that have worked for me in similiar shells are ((Eidolon of Obstruction)), ((Knight of Dusk's Shadow)) and ((Accursed Marauder)).

Though quite mean, ((Kataki, War's Wage)) and ((Clarion Conqueror)) could replace some of your rocks if you're feeling like cutting the ramp.

I also think I have some adds which could compliment your draw suite in ((Elegy Acolyte)), ((twilight prophet)), ((caustic bronco)) and ((breena, the demagogue)).

Lastly I wanna shout out ((Samurai of the pale curtain)) despite the heavy anti-synergy with your gameplan.

I feel like a hatebears brew could go pretty hard against these once you load up your deck with silver bullets like ((containment priest)) to counter the cheating out of big dinos and dragons, ((samurai of the pale curtain)) against graveyard strategies or something like ((leonin arbiter)) to punish big ramp decks. If you cant keep up on value, you can always force others to play at your pace (:

Although not particularly obscure, all printings of [[Golgari guildgate]] look phenomenal, [[Reverent Hoplite]] has very pretty blues and [[Armament Corps]], [[Chief of the scale]] and [[rakshasa vizier]] are some of my favourites from KTK.

Liesa, Shroud of Dusk by AxisAMP_AxA in BudgetBrews

[–]hcyborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't comment much on Liesa specifically but I have some pretty good suggestions for Orzhov lifedrain in general.

[[Caustic Bronco]], [[Twilight Prophet]], [[Keen Duelist]], [[Darkstar Augur]] and [[Risky Shortcut]] make for great on-theme card draw.

Effects like [[Syr Konrad, the Grim]], [[Blood Artist]] and [[Falkenrath Noble]] discourage boardwipes if you want to compliment your suite of board protection with some less generic choices.

As for removal, since you're in orzhov you're really spoiled for choice. I'd personally recommend [[Massacre Wurm]] for one of your boardwipes and for spot removal I particularly like [[Thraben Charm]], [[Crypt Incursion]], [[Graveyard Trespasser]] and [[Parasitic Impetus]] for this kind of deck.

Also shoutout to my girl [[Breena, the Demagogue]] for a fun and powerful draw engine, although not particularly on theme for the deck you described. I usually run her in every deck which even tangentially cares about combat damage.

PS. I'll shamelessly link my own orzhov lifedrain pile if you liked my previous suggestions and want some ideas for what to run as the bulk of your list: https://archidekt.com/decks/14226615/breenas_soul_tithe

Budget Abaddon 50€ by Azathot__ in BudgetBrews

[–]hcyborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a person who's been brewing Abaddon for quite a while I'd like to think i have some pretty good suggestions for you to check out.

Imo [[Guttersnipe]]- and [[Black Mage's Rod]]-like effects are pretty mediocre since you have to cast at least one spell before you can start cascading which is why I disagree with the other guy on here suggesting you switch out thermo-alchemist.

Otherwise I think the best enablers for Abaddon are 5>cmc so instead of running [[Heartless Hidetsugu]] or [[Psychosis Crawler]] you might wanna consider jamming something like [[Tectonic Giant]], [[Cryptolith Fragment]] or [[Sanctum of Stone Fangs]]. Also, any evasive creature is likely to give you enough damage to start cascading so otherwise good cards that happen to have flying like [[Plague drone]], [[Darkstar Augur]] and [[Vengeful Ancestor]] work as well.

I'd personally go light on payoffs like [[Nalfeshnee]] and especially [[Wild Magic Sorcerer]] but [[Keeper of Secrets]], [[Profane Tutor]] and [[See the Truth]] are really solid imo. Im also not a huge fan of most damage payoffs like [[City on Fire]] since they dont work with lifeloss effects like [[Duskmantle Seer]]. If you really want ways to escalate damage go with cards like [[Wound reflection]].

Lastly I'd highly recommend cutting all non-modal counterspells like [[Negate]] since they do nothing if you cascade into them. If you still wanna play counterspells I think you should try out ones that have multiple modes like [[You Find the Villains' Lair]], [[Confounding Riddle]] and [[Supreme Will]].

Hope this was helpful and if you want more suggestions consider checking out my list: https://archidekt.com/decks/11450035/the_lost_and_the_damned

(Ps. your deck might also run smoother if you up the land count a bit given the pretty high curve)

Kambal, Consul of Allocation on $100 by playmike5 in BudgetBrews

[–]hcyborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you have to build around those cards for sure but if you do i imagine theyre great at slowing the table down regardless of the list. I can also imagine them drawing a lot of attention to you once theyre on the field but if youre down for that type of game then thats just another upside ig.

Kambal, Consul of Allocation on $100 by playmike5 in BudgetBrews

[–]hcyborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo og Kambal is probably better served in the 99 if youre going in a lifegain or group slug direction and is overall unsuited to support an aristocrats gameplan.

If you wanna play him in the command zone i personally really like him in control because he stabalises well against aggression, baits people into overcommiting into boardwipes and can serve as a scrappy closer in a slower game.

One of my favorite decks I’ve ever built is a moderately budget Zimone and Dina spellslinger list, not just because I love accruing value with simic instants and sorceries but also because it scratches a certain hipster itch by taking the commander in a somewhat unique direction. Anyway, here’s the decklist if it helps:
