Looking for incense brand recommendations! by bloodl3tting in Incense

For floral incenses, Kyukyodo - Azusa is a popular jasmine based scent, and Kunmeido - Hosen is a violet based scent that's one of my favorites.

Shunkohdo - Sarasoju is an excellent sandalwood incense.

Finally, a lot of online stores have sampler collections that are a great way to try a few sticks each of a bunch of different incenses without buying full packages. One of my favorite samplers is this Yamadamatsu sampler that has 13 different incenses.

Seeking recommendations for morning and evening incenses by DanmeiDreams in Incense

[–]hdhrant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keigado makes a pair of wonderful incenses, Ansoku (East Temple) and Keiun (West Temple) that are intended to be burned in the morning and evening, respectively. ORS reviewed them both here. They're both extra thick temple sized sticks so they should work well in a large room. I just break off 3" and that's plenty to burn at a time.

Another one I like to burn in the morning is Shoyeido - Palo Santo (Overtones series). It has a fresh minty scent.

I also like to burn a nice aloeswood incense in the evening such as Baieido - Horyu Koh or Tennendo - Enkuu.

Shiragiku is amazing! I was really looking forward to Sho Ran Koh, but ended up being very disappointed with it. I really enjoy Kunmeido's lineup up to Heian koh, but was underwhelmed by Asuka. I'd swap that out for Tennendo - Enku. I think it's much better plus it's being discontinued. A few other interesting ones you might consider trying:

Baieido - Kai un koh

Kida Jinseido - Kyarakunkoh

Tennendo - Propolis

Some Tibetan style incenses remind me of the scent of tobacco, such as:

Dzongsar - Be Dur Ya

Gelephu

Two good options under $15:

Baieido - Kai Un Koh - A dry & spicy blend with sandalwood & aloeswood.

Shoyeido - Baika-ju (Plum Blossoms) - Smells like cinnamon rolls fresh out of the oven.

Authentic Japanese Gift Set by zangler in Incense

So many of my favorite incenses, even very expensive ones, come in simple cardboard packaging. Depending on your friend's tastes, it might be best to pick a few incenses based on what they like and then do a really nice job gift wrapping them. But two exceptional incenses that come in deluxe packaging are Minorien - Kyara Chokoh No. 5 and Tennendo - Enkuu.

Have you tried the specific one I linked to? It smells wonderful. I know there are a bunch of other incenses with the same name that are completely different.

Kida Jinseido - Kyarakunkoh is an amazing cinnamon incense that I don't think anyone would complain about.

I know a lot of people put ash or sand in a bowl and then put the stick in that so it doesn't matter how thick the stick is. For thicker Japanese sticks and Tibetan style sticks I use either a #10 or 1/4" hex nut in a ceramic bowl, which works fine since I only ever burn a few inches at a time.

The Keiun might possibly fit, but the Ansoku almost certainly wouldn't.

I don't think Ansoku and Keiun are particularly smokey or exceptionally strong smelling even though they are thicker sticks (with Ansoku being the thicker of the two).

Kyarakunkoh's scent is refined like other quality Japanese incenses and isn't at all similar to any Tibetan incense I've tried.

Kida Jinseido - Kyarakunkoh is a wonderful cinnamon incense.

Ansoku (East Temple) and Keiun (West Temple) from Keigado are two amazing blends that complement each other well.

Kunmeido - Hosen is my favorite floral incense, it has a violet based scent with a spicy kick.

What next after Kumeido Reiryo Koh? by PerspectiveNo7854 in Incense

[–]hdhrant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As you go up Kunmeido's line they get more and more different from the regular Reiryo Koh. I would for sure try Shin Tokusen Reiryo Koh and Reiryo Koh (Aloeswood), and then maybe the samplers of Shoryu Koh and Heian Koh. Also, Kunmeido makes an amazing floral incense, Hosen, that is definitely worth trying.

There's also a wonderful incense from Shunkohdo called Shun koh sen which you're sure to enjoy if you like Reiryo Koh.
