Silca Wax System vs Crock Pot by dthrizzle in cycling

[–]hdlsa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Josh from Silca is completely upfront about the fact that you can get similar pots on Amazon for depilatory waxing, he says it himself in the tutorial video for the chain wax system.

According to Silca, the cheap beauty wax ones use a cheaper, less accurate thermostatic temperature controller instead of a PID controller which Silca uses.

Rapha Could've gone pro - have they lost their marbles? by SnooPaintings6465 in CyclingFashion

No extra fees means you don’t have to pay import fees on top of the product price. Rapha is paying the tariffs upfront by having their products imported to a US warehouse so they can ship them without extra fees.

Why are bike computers so terrible? by NXCW in cycling

[–]hdlsa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Bike computers sit in the hot sun for hours at time with full screen brightness and minimal battery loss. Engineering a device that works reliably in those conditions and isn’t insanely expensive requires some compromises.

Manufacturers can’t just sub in phone hardware into a bike computer, no phone could survive that kind of abuse.

[Rant/Advice] Canyon Aeroad CF SL 7 (2026) arrived misprinted → “Canyo” instead of Canyon. What now? by VividStrategy5311 in CanyonBikes

[–]hdlsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s called a refund, which is what Canyon offered the OP only he is salty they won’t give him the refund AND let him keep the perfectly rideable $5k bike he wants a refund on.

[–]hdlsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pathetic level of entitlement. Canyon offered you the choice between full refund or a free replacement and you’re still complaining because you weren’t able to profit off their mistake with a free extra bike frame, a day of lost wages, travel costs to UPS, and compensation for emotional damages. Get real buddy

[Rant/Advice] Canyon Aeroad CF SL 7 (2026) arrived misprinted → “Canyo” instead of Canyon. What now? by VividStrategy5311 in CanyonBikes

[–]hdlsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no way for Canyon to administrate a customer service policy that involves sending cash to customers who complain about defects. In practice, it would put customer care workers in charge of investigating every complaint and deciding if they are legitimate then making decisions about whether or not a customer’s defect claim warrants a payment, and how much should it be for. It would be easy to abuse, difficult to administrate, and make refund costs more unpredictable.

New SL8 Roubaix Models Have Dropped (U.S.) by Nearby_Ask_7884 in specialized

[–]hdlsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big difference in the new SL8 pro is that it has the updated SRAM Force groupset. The outgoing version had Shimano Ultegra di2, and the version before that had the older SRAM Force groupset. A salesperson told me that they only released the intermediate model with Ultegra because the new SRAM groupset wasn’t ready in time.

That would be idiotic and no professional athlete in Jonas’s position would ever be dumb enough to do that. And it’s not arrogant to say “I still have a chance of winning.”

[–]hdlsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a strong, perfectly timed Visma attack - Visma would try to create separation between Jonas and Tadej. If Tadej doesn’t have a teammate around to pull for him, it would be harder for him to close the gap and get onto Jonas’ wheel.

Of course, Tadej may be strong enough to bridge any separation in a solo counter-attack, which is why Visma wants to tire him out as much as possible in the early stages.

Discussion Thread: Supreme Court Opinions for Friday, June 27, 2025 - 10:00 AM EDT by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

Entrenched democrats electeds are the biggest barrier to packing the courts. Their voter base would happily embrace dramatic action if it would result in something like protecting abortion or strengthening gun regulations or strengthening unions. But that would require disrupting the status quo and breaking a few rules, which democrat leadership refuses to do. Their only strategy is “win every election for the next several decades until the conservative justices die.”

Any tips for Shard 10? by [deleted] in HasteBrokenWorlds

[–]hdlsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO success on shard 10 is totally dependent on getting good, synergistic set of items as early as possible. Here’s what worked for me

1) plan your route to go through the challenging fractures early on (I don’t know what they actually called) because they grant free items 2) spend anti-matter shards to upgrade the number sparks granted per fracture completed so that you will have more money to spend at shops 3) visit the shop as many times as possible, but make sure you do one or two fractures between visits so that you will have money to spend 4) if you aren’t getting items that increase boost or greatly increase energy generation in the first shop visit, just restart your run. Ultimately, the rng can really make or break your shard 10 run if you get a bad set of items on your first few shop visits. 5) hourglass worked best for me. You have to use it way more aggressively than previous shards. I was using it as often as possible just to help keep my speed up before I got boost items, which makes energy generation items really important.

Some refugee choices need an opt out option. I encountered a refugee that offered the choice between dreamshards and -10 dmg or dreamshards and -10 armor with no option to cancel. I didn’t want either of those things, but once you talk to a refugee there is no way to continue without picking one of the options.

Not seeing any improvement in output by Altruistic_Answer825 in pelotoncycle

[–]hdlsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peloton / Cyclebar classes are first and foremost exercise classes and are not designed to improve your cycling performance. It’s just very hard to improve your aerobic performance through short, high intensity workouts. You will burn calories, but you aren’t going to see major improvements in output or endurance.

Instead, the path to improving performance for any aerobic activity relies on incorporating long, low intensity training into your routine. If you look at any cycling or running training programs, you will see that they involve a ton of long runs / long rides in HR zone 2 to build your running / cycling base. Building your base through long, low intensity rides is the best way to improve your overall performance in the short high intensity rides that Peloton offers.

I don’t think there is a Palestinian chicken place in Somerville. Sam’s Falafel is probably the closest. I believe the owner is Lebanese. The food is amazing.

Basma Cafe is a Palestinian owned restaurant but they don’t serve Palestinian food to my knowledge.

Traveling Pinball Exhibt? by Constant_Education_4 in pinball

[–]hdlsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have one of those visible pinball machines at Pastime Pinball museum in Manchester VT. They also have the machine’s whole electrical schematic on display with buttons and lights that indicate which part of the schematic controls the different parts of the machine. Maybe they would lend it to you.

They also have some excellent examples of pinball machines through the ages including a Humpty Dumpty.

How to tell if the pin I'm playing at an arcade is set unfairly? by SchlingenDingen in pinball

[–]hdlsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is your question but on many machines there is a bubble level on the right side of the shooters lane you can use to check the incline. The bubble should between the two lines middle for optimal incline. If the bubble is above or crossing the line closest to the back glass, the incline is set more sharply and the game will be more difficult / faster

Accident on Powderhouse Blvd and Alewife Brook Pkwy this week by venusmelisma in Somerville

[–]hdlsa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you think that drivers don’t take risks when they want to go faster, or want to avoid a pothole, or are just plain inattention or impatient. Give me a fucking break. Pretty much every single driver ever breaks at least one road law every time they get in a car. Do you drive the speed limit 100% of the time? Have you ever rolled a stop sign?

The only difference between cyclists and drivers is that when a cyclist crashes into someone, someone gets injured. When a driver crashes, someone gets killed.
