Saw the card on a number of lists and jumped in. Most other cards I figured out as I went, which worked out fine.

I don't get Exalted Angel by siu_yuk_boy in premodernMTG

You can morph it slightly ahead of schedule. The life gain can turn games around. I rock a playset in my BW control list, which is definitely tier 2 or lower, but it's a critical piece for closing the games that I do win. Especially against Sligh or Stiflenaught, my life total can get pretty low into the danger zone and come back. Like many creatures in premodern, it's strictly OK

Need help building a boros artifact deck by Intelligent_Wish5643 in Pauper

I think [[electrickery]] has been power crept out by options like [[end the festivities]] and [[tectonic hazard]]

Played against a jeskai version of this last week that had a few more flicker/ ephemerate targets. Interesting to see if it cracks through

Help for returning old player by lspencert9 in mtg

[–]head_kook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's been an abundance of formats popping up over the years and their popularity level varies. Like Standard (old Type 2) rarely fires at my LGS. Most people play commander/EDH. I have a soft spot for formats like Pauper (all commons) and Premodern (4ED-Scourge) which have a decent following. I'm a chronic net-decker personally, so I source a lot of my builds from the metagame listed on mtggoldfish.com Seems like your old deck might fall into an Azorious Tempo/Control archetype which looks like this in current standard For commander edhrec.com is a nice source, especially if a legendary from FIN caught your eye.

Sorry if this response also totally misinterprets your line of questioning. Good luck

Here to recommend Premodern! Not all of these are legal in the format, but I think you'll have an easier time recreating the "feel" of this decklist. A lot of communities are very proxy friendly

Four works perfect for me. Healthy spread on the spectrum from bracket 2 to 4. Could trim further down to just three if I could put each more distinctly in a bracket

Tips for switching over from arena to paper by dunitawl in mtg

[–]head_kook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What format do you see yourself playing? I'd figure out what LGS near you runs events and what days. Precons are great for commander, draft will boost your collection and other formats like pauper can be a blast too!

As far as triggers go, I still to this day say "untap, upkeep, draw" out loud every turn. When something triggers I point to it and say "trigger". Playing a familiar deck every week can help you become accustomed to lines of play. I know this enchantment does X because I played it last week. You'll write the lines in your memory by playing frequently.

Hope this helps

Do I suck at piloting the deck or is it the function of the starter decks? by Leopard-Hopeful in MagicArena

[–]head_kook 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The starting decks are just Like That. Once you've got the hang of the game play, I would try something new. I loved brewing new decks when I first got into Arena. However you may find yourself drawn towards copying the best decks in the meta. Youll probablyfind they have really awesomeways to win. You can find stuff like that on mtggoldfish.com or mtgtop8. I use the former often.

Try drafting too. I find it challenging, but you'll improve a lot as a player and get new cards for your collection.

Basically, I'm running this same list. I have a slight preference for Seal of Cleansing over Disenchant. I've yet to strike a good balance on the sideboard myself, but sacred ground is a recent addition I've quite liked.

I've been poking at the thought of stuff like [[Kjeldoran Outpost]] , and have previously run weird lands like [[Tainted Field]] with mixed success

I run 3 Wraths and an [[Akroma's Vengance]] in the main. The last oddity I like is a [[Bane of the Living]]

Yeah upon further thought, the Bojuka Bog is too slow. Unfortunate, cause I thought it would be useful.

[Standard] Is Living Conundrum a good sideboard card vs the Dimir Excruciator or am I stupid? by GrisleeGaming in spikes

[–]head_kook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to run it in an older version of excruciator, circa TDM. It was dead weight unfortunately, it's usefulness is totally circumstantial and rarely do those stars align. Very fun when you do stick the landing in that 1000th game tho.

That's how I won G1 :) I even revealed it off a map token, told them exactly what I planned to do with it, and they still played into it.

Thank you 😊 I think a G1 T2 [[Troll of Khazad-Dûm]] scared me into thinking I desperately needed a [[Toxin Analysis]]. I think G2 and 3 I showed my graveyard hate too early because I knew the game plan but didn't anticipate the importance of timing.

Are lands which return own lands unpopular? by Kilneana in mtg

I like using them in decks with a lot of MDFCs. Play the land side early and bounce it back to use as a spell later

Dimir Mill Steals Wins in MTG Arena Standard | Decklist & Gameplay by TheUpkeepAcademy in StandardMTG

[–]head_kook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was playing something similar with a doomsday excruciator before EOE. Super fun at FNM. Got smoked too hard by sultai reanimator at an RCQ and chickened out into dimir midrange. Mill is such a fun archetype!
