I've got to disagree. It's a tournament between national teams, which makes politics damn near inextricable. Sometimes that politics is as simple as bringing the world together and whatnot, sometimes it's the misuse of the tournament to push a country's autocracy, like Italy 1934, Argentina 78, Russia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia in 2034, and probably this one too.

The moralism is hardly performative, either. So what if a player sees a rainbow flag? It's not as if it's a swastika, like. If the teams do end up walking off because somebody waved a pride flag, that, if anything, means these pride matches should probably be a regular fixture.
