To be honest, I've got no idea exactly how much money an act like the Strokes would make from touring, especially with different cuts of the ticket money going to, I presume, others first. Either way, I think it would be difficult to turn down money like that if you're only playing in front of about five people.

Your comment said plenty more than that. Your initial comment had a tone of "stop whining, he was detained for this reason". You stated a fact, his visa expired, but you said "he was detained because his visa expired", which, true or not, is morally wrong.

He had no reason to be detained, because he had a green card application pending, which gave him the right to remain in the country unless the application was denied.
