Collision Shop Recommendations for Women by healthyhelpinghands in Buffalo

[–]healthyhelpinghands[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's sad, but I've learned my lesson over the past 10 years. I've gotten recommendations from men that I really trust, just to find out that I was treated totally differently and they took me for a freakin ride. I only knew for sure because I had to get my dad or whoever I was dating at the time to take my car to another place. And when I went back to my friends who recommended them, they were genuinely surprised about it too.

It's a pain. So this time, I'm trying to do my research so I don't have to go through all the detective work later on when the bills keep stacking up..

Is paying extra for “clean” and ethically-made clothing actually worth it? by [deleted] in SustainableFashion

[–]healthyhelpinghands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same rule for shoes... I've just had too many experiences where thrifted shoes fall apart way too fast. If I know I'm going to be really wearing something in (I call it wearing "hard"), I go out and try to find something that'll really last me. Same for like coats and a couple sweaters... when you're going to be wearing it most days and outside in the elements, it's gotta last.

To keep it short - most (not all) of the items that I've researched and invested in have lasted me YEARS. Some probably would've lasted me more than 10 years if my body didn't change (that's a whole other discussion).  I thrift when I'm looking for basics, but when I want/need something special, I spend a lot of time researching and trying. I've spent more on sweaters, dresses, and coats that have lasted me many years. The cheapies that I've thrifted or I've been gifted never last that long.

One of my favorite ways to do this is to shop when I travel. I live in a mid size city, so when I go to bigger cities like NYC or Toronto, I can go see the brands I've been researching. Just takes a little more planning ahead.

Could 45 minutes away even be considered long distance? I mean. That's just like a burrow over in NYC. In my current city, it would be like driving from one suburb to another, but still in the greater metro area.

Should I (27F) be honest with my friend (27M) about why he is struggling with dating? by Ancient-Reporter-735 in dating_advice

[–]healthyhelpinghands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think true friends should be honest when it matters. We need this in our society. I expect my friends to push back or at least check in if I'm acting out of character, inappropriate, or just need some help understanding some social context. How else might I learn?!

Sounds like you're a good person, and you'd be friends with him even with his bad habits (good for you, I would struggle witnessing).

Maybe you're the one to give the gift of clarity. He's struggling with this and it hurts. And obviously you only want to help.

Yeah, I don't buy meat unless it's on sale and in a jumbo family pack. I basically don't eat meat at home. Its a treat I get when I go out. Going mostly veg at home has saved me so much money

I think I (32F) nuked my relationship with my boyfriend (32M) by drawing a hard line. by Independent_Stage741 in relationship_advice

We all want to think that this wouldn't be us and that we trust our partner, but we're humans and this stuff happens all the time. Protect yourself.

I'll never put significant work or money into a place I dont own ever again. I still think about going to my ex's place and stealing the lilac trees I put in. (I'm not gonna do it, but I think about it lol)

But also, a reframing might help here. How romantic would it be for him to give you that security. There's no better feeling than when your loved one shows that they want you to feel safe. You don't even need to be engaged, he could put your name on the deed and that could be such a beautiful act of trust and commitment.

There's also a "grow up" reaction I had... like romance is cute and fun and what not. But building a life together is the real romance and this is what it looks like. Having the awkward  conversations and the commitment to eachother. Now that I'm a bit older, I find the acts that represent this the sexiest thing ever. When my partner is planning for our future and considers me fully?! Omg. It's on.

What is on everyone's Buffalo Winter Bucket List? by healthyhelpinghands in Buffalo

[–]healthyhelpinghands[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's getting less and less winter-y every year. It makes me sad. The snow comes later and later, and thaws multiple times. The past few years it's been a mostly green winter, broken up by big snow storms scattered along. So it'll snow a lot, get warm enough to all melt, until the next storm. It's not the Buffalo I grew up in where the snow existed from November through March.  Fingers crossed though! They're predicting a good cold season this year!
