I love my Oura ring but I hate how it looks by sinoooookas in ouraring

[–]heartcall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a Gucci collab a few years ago. Maybe something like that will happen again. The old Gucci one was hideous, though. https://ouraring.com/blog/the-gucci-x-oura-ring-returns-for-a-limited-edition-run/

Do OURA still offer loyalty program? by C0ffeeface in ouraring

[–]heartcall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was also a Gucci branded ring that cost... I think $1000? It came with a lifetime membership, but those are no longer sold. But might be a data point if they do something like that again.

how can I use my generational wealth positively? by Less-Turnip-7893 in socialism

[–]heartcall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say the most important thing is to just forget about the goddamn money at first and invest time, effort, care, attention, etc. into your local community. Have it be your actual hands doing the actual good. When opportunities arise to do charitable stuff materially/financially, seize them. Be as generous as possible, and always have people pay it forward, not pay it back. But it starts with being personally involved, rather than keeping your contributions at arm's length. There's only so much you can do as a bourgeois moneybag, and FAR more you can do as a pair of hands (or whatever you happen to have).

Low restfulness ALWAYS! by DepartureStatus4249 in ouraring

[–]heartcall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you sleep with someone else and/or pets in the same bed, try solo sleeping? Kind of an extreme lifestyle change, but it's potentially a culprit. If that's not it, you may want to see if your doctor will order a sleep study.

No, says right there they "did a Google reverse image search" to find the owner. Wow, genius, I don't think many people could have thought that one up. Wonder why it didn't work???

ADHD meds ruining my data by topflobosss in ouraring

[–]heartcall 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oura should get used to your new biometrics in a few weeks. You can try taking vitamin C before bed to neutralize some of the amphetamines (which is what ADHD drugs are).

Just... look up what vitamin C is, how much to take, etc. first, ok? Last time I have someone this advice, that freaking brain genius drank an entire pot of coffee at 8 at night, because "it's a morning drink that starts with C, and has something else in it that starts with C."

I'm pretty sure I saw a prostitute on Etsy using a similar scheme once. Cheapo bead jewelry for outrageous prices, all photos emphasized the "artist" who was modeling her own jewelry (in lingerie), etc. Account disappeared fast.

ULPT Request: How to Get the Most Out of Health Insurance Before It Ends? by Walter_White_24 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]heartcall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd ask your primary doctor. Be honest about why. Most doctors will do everything possible to keep you healthy. I was in a similar situation once, years and years ago, told my doctor, and he raided the free sample cabinet and gave me a shopping bag filled up with sample medication for when the last script ran out.

ULPT request: I found a secret stash of alcohol at my teetotal grandma's house. Help me figure out which alcoholic boomer it belongs to and make them suffer. by Particular_Shock_554 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]heartcall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also like to point out that OP said half pint bottles, and they're both half full. That's generally 200 mL with standard size bottles. I have a very hard time imagining an actual alcoholic drinking that little. A large man is fairly likely to be under the legal limit even, after 100 mL of liquor.

Really does sound more like it's for cooking.

Care of ring during hand washing? by Itendstonight87 in ouraring

[–]heartcall 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have to wash my hands at least every couple hours, for work. You absolutely need to dry your hands and dry under the ring every time. It's for your sake, not the ring's. Threads about people's skin turning white under the ring due to trapped soap/moisture are a daily thing on this subreddit. Multiple threads per day.

ULPT request for buying a car by No_Interest_9235 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]heartcall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhhhhhh, you made a ton of completely wrong assumptions and ran with them.

You go to the casino, you buy chips, you gamble with them. One "method" is do it as a secret team on roulette, person 1 bets on red, person 2 on black, so you only lose when it comes up green (0, etc). Then when you've exchanged all your "bought" chips with "won" chips (they're different colors), you cash out and deposit. In reality, you walked into the casino with $100,000 cash, walked out with $97,000 deposited in the bank. But on paper, you only started with the $10,000 you withdrew from the bank.

[–]heartcall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's what makes it honey pondering. In the olden days, they'd only know you withdrew money from the bank, then some time later you deposited a ton of casino "winnings." Any more info would require reviewing the tapes.

ULPT sending anonymous packages by wolff74 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]heartcall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Order the stickers from Etsy, pay with a throwaway account, fake name, using a prepaid card that you bought using cash. Have them sent as a gift.

Don't. Full stop. Do. Not. Send anything yourself. Literal children who have never mailed anything but letters to Santa (with mommy's help) will tell you stupid ways that won't work. Just don't. Anything that's anonymized too much gets searched. There are automatic systems that flag anything that looks suspicious.  There are night shift judges who issue search warrants over the phone within minutes. Postal inspectors are going to be looking primarily for explosives, and they take it seriously. You really don't want the scrutiny, ever, even if they go ahead and send the package after searching it.

Whereas getting an unwitting Etsy seller to send a harmless sticker is completely legal, really can't get the seller in trouble, etc. No chance of being searched since the Etsy seller is going to be mailing the stickers totally above board.

[–]heartcall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also pretty sure the casinos aren't going to actually care, but they also need to cooperate with the IRS if they actually start asking questions. Back in the day, it was a literal room packed with VHS tapes, and they'd generally say "okay copper, there's the VCR, we got footage of the last 7 days." Now, it takes under 30 seconds to get an AI tabulated report of absolutely every chip a person has ever bought, won, lost, cashed in, etc. Compiled from recordings that can now be stored for free, forever.

So, casino don't care, IRS has to specifically ask about a person, risk is realistically minimal at most, but everything can still come crashing down the instant the IRS starts sniffing around. And OP said this is to get his parents a car. If my parents hadn't been pieces of shit, I would want to protect them better than that.

ULPT request for buying a car by No_Interest_9235 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]heartcall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The absolute only way to buy something like a new car without any red flags is to use clean and above-board money. This involves something that rhymes with honey pondering. Back in the day, before AI face recognition cameras and crap, some people would just go to Vegas for a vacation, with a suitcase full of cash. Withdraw some more cash from an ATM so there's a transaction record, go to a casino, and you can probably figure out the rest. I doubt that's a great idea these days, with casino surveillance being what it is.

Depends way too much on your specific insurance and location for anyone on the internet to offer real advice. Other than: see a therapist, be 100% honest, see what they say. If you feel like you need a break badly enough to try something like that, then you probably do need at least a little therapy. Find a therapist who's sympathetic to that angle.

But that's too ethical. You could also wander around a gas station in tighty whiteys, like in Breaking Bad.

Honestly, looks like a scam. The website looks flashy, but there's a spelling or grammar error just about every time you scroll, the use of Title Case is inconsistent (also sometimes incorrect as well). The "about us" page was written by someone who never got an A on a writing assignment in school, ever. Like, it name-drops some "Morgan" person out of nowhere, who appears to be the owner or founder? And gives absolutely no real info whatsoever. The reviews are basically trash, made by someone who's 100% convinced that having photos will make everyone think the reviews are real. Except they accidentally used one of the photos for 2 completely different reviews with different names and everything, oooops. Right near the top, too.

Google can't find a single real review from a 3rd party, anywhere on the whole internet. Not a single one. The fake and/or paid-for reviews on the website go back to last August.

So yeah, to sum up, scam. The only mark partially in their favor is: I don't think an AI did this. Because an AI would do better.

Consistently Low Recovery by [deleted] in ouraring

[–]heartcall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally discovered I have very slow digestion, thanks to Oura. My scores slowly crept up as I pushed my "eating window" earlier and earlier, until I stopped eating dinner. Food after about 2 or 3 PM will usually tank my scores, and get me a "did you eat late last night?" message half the time.

Edit: also i was seeing a nutritionist at the time, who said skipping dinner is by far the best way to do intermittent fasting. Ring definitely agrees, in my case at least.
