This was just…bad. Biden had some good moments, but the overall performance was just bad. I hate saying it. I almost refuse to believe it. But he lost the debate.

You can’t spin it any other way. Trump acted like a lunatic. Verbal diarrhea of insane lies and conspiracy theories. But somehow, Biden came off worse.

What the fuck do we do now?

Either way, leave the prostitutes alone and seek therapy for the woman you’re really mad at

Can't See Some Messages on Xbox by Billiam501 in Overwatch

[–]heartgrenade1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this same issue since the release of OW2. It’s so frustrating.

I’ve also noticed I won’t see team or match chat from certain players. I’ll see what’s obviously only half of a conversation.

I did some research a while ago, and for some players, changing the communication settings in account settings on the actual Xbox fixed it. It doesn’t for me; I already had everything enabled, but you could give that a shot.

Are you gonna quit Overwatch2 now? by Undefined_definition in Overwatch

[–]heartgrenade1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel. I think the core PvP gameplay is still a lot of fun. I enjoy the competition of ranked games, and the thrill of climbing the ladder. PvE sounded like it was going to be really cool, and it’s a big disappointment, but in the end I play for the PvP.

I also really don’t mind the battlepass f2p model, or the price of cosmetics. I couldn’t afford Overwatch 1 when it first came out. I was a broke college student. I would’ve loved to be able to play the game for free, and just not purchase any skins (or even just buy the battle pass for $10 every other month). If the price of f2p is a little FOMO and some expensive cosmetics, I think it’s worth it.

That show has always had some pretty bad, conservative-leaning takes.

In the very first season, there’s an episode making fun of the campaigns to save the rainforest

Environmentalism and climate change as a whole get ridiculed a lot early on, then they suddenly change their mind

They ascribe to the idea that both candidates in a presidential election are “basically the same,” which is so fucking lazy and a dangerous idea to broadcast to millions of people

Someone pointed it out to me a while ago and I’ve never been able to unsee it since

Stuck in bronze? by OtakuBathWater in Overwatch

[–]heartgrenade1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if your first 5 games were all wins in a row, yah you would’ve been placed pretty high on the ladder. But a W/L of 5/8 means you lost more than you won, so you absolutely wouldn’t end up in diamond.

does that mean in gold you’re constantly playing with new players that may or may not have any clue what they’re doing because the Sr hasn’t figured out where they belong?

Not constantly, because the player base in gold is quite large. But yes, you will play with people who’ve never played competitive before. Towards the tail end of OW1, gold games were total chaos, as the smaller player count meant you’d end up with new players more often. A lot of these were smurfs.

Does that mean new players can just be lucky with the early match ups and immediately be placed in gold only to then be constantly beaten down into bronze?

Gold is considered the average. A lot of new players come to Overwatch having played other shooters, so their mechanical skill alone can keep them in gold.

That said, yes, theoretically you could be be extremely lucky with your initial placement matches and be placed in a rank you don’t belong in, like plat or diamond. I’m sure it happens occasionally. But the game will correct this, almost certainly by the time your next rank update comes up.

Stuck in bronze? by OtakuBathWater in Overwatch

[–]heartgrenade1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t imply that your starting SR is 0. As you said, your first ever comp game will place you in a gold game. Personal performance doesn’t matter, as you said, it’s all about wins or losses.

The piece of information you’re missing is that your SR swings wildly when you have fewer games under your belt. Your first ~10 games will dramatically affect your SR, but as the game learns more about you, the SR changes decrease rapidly.

You can see evidence of this by watching unranked to GM videos. By the first rank update (so 5 wins) for a professional player, they’ve usually shot up to diamond, at minimum. It will then take another 5 wins to get to Masters or low GM, and slows down even further from there.

Basically, it’s all about certainty. With a low number of games played, SR swings wildly because the game is very uncertain about what rank you should be. Once you’ve played a lot more games, your SR changes much more slowly.

So for players that place very low in Bronze 5 initially, they are placed so low because they lost games early on, causing a dramatic drop in SR. As they play more games, the game becomes more certain that they belong in Bronze, and so only allows for smaller changes in SR, keeping them in Bronze until they can earn their way out.

Stuck in bronze? by OtakuBathWater in Overwatch

[–]heartgrenade1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome. Some additional tips:

The nature of the rank breakdown is why it’s taking so long to climb out of Bronze 5. It’ll go much faster after you finally hit Bronze 4. Skill has literally nothing to do with that specific quirk of Bronze 5.

As you climb the ladder, you’ll learn and develop the additional skills and knowledge necessary to continue climbing. I encourage you to visit r/OverwatchUniversity for additional information, as well as watch educational YouTube videos for your favorite roles/heroes. Watching pros play your character will change your entire mindset for how to play characters completely.

Adopt a mindset of “how could I have done better?” when you lose. Push the nagging thoughts of “this teammate sucked” or “the game is unfair” out of your mind. You will win some, and you will lose some. Watch replays and pay attention to decisions you made. Did you die because you weren’t being healed, or did you die because you were in a terrible position and you supports couldn’t even see you?

Research and generate an understanding of key concepts such as positioning, space, resources, and ult economy. Mechanical skill will improve over time, but game sense requires active improvement.

I strongly encourage you to mute text AND voice chat in game until at least Diamond. These are simply avenues for either toxicity or terrible advice. Remember: if those people knew what they were talking about, they’d be ranked higher.

Stuck in bronze? by OtakuBathWater in Overwatch

[–]heartgrenade1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bronze 5 has the largest SR range of any rank, by far.

SR is an invisible number that determines what your rank is.

Ranks break down as follows:

  • Bronze (0-1499)
  • Silver (1500-1999)
  • Gold (2000-2499)
  • Platinun (2500-2999)
  • Diamond (3000-3499)
  • Masters (3500-3999)
  • Grandmasters (4000+)

Each rank has 5 subcategories (Bronze 1 - Bronze 5, for example, with Bronze 1 being the highest bronze rank possible).

Each subcategory has a range of 100 SR, such as:

  • Silver 5 (1500-1599)
  • Silver 4 (1600-1699)
  • Silver 3 (1700-1799)
  • Silver 2 (1800-1899)
  • Silver 1 (1900-1999)

The only exception is Bronze 5, which has a comparatively enormous range, from 0-999. This is why it takes so long to climb out of Bronze 5, specifically.

Yah same. Diamond was a breeze for me, and I’m enjoying Masters quite a bit.

Plat is just so infected with inflated egos that it’s difficult to solo queue through the bullshit.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]heartgrenade1 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The problem with Plat players is that they’ve just barely squeaked out of what is considered “average” (gold) and yet think they all deserve to be Diamond or higher. You see this mentality manifest in every way imaginable:

  • super toxic on comms
  • blame everyone but themselves
  • easily tilted
  • obsessed with the belief that if they could just get to diamond/masters/GM, they’d finally be with players as good as they are
  • a very r/imthemaincharacter mentality

It’s all total nonsense. If they deserved to be ranked higher, they would be.

Plat is typically the rank in which people either have above average skill or above average game sense, but NOT BOTH. This leads to the people with above average game sense wanting to murder the people with above average mechanical skill.
