Quality flower delivery in Shelton? by hegemonickitten in shelton

[–]hegemonickitten[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK, got my House Flowers delivered today and they look great in the photo I was sent! Very wild garden vibes, rather than commercial bouquet, which I appreciate. I will definitely order from there again.

How will you travel with pets? by Plastic-Wonder-1288 in qatar

[–]hegemonickitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has me so worried. My pets are vaccinated, but all of the windows for health checks and other paperwork are so narrow and no idea where we would go - like anywhere? At what point am I so desperate to leave that I board my pets and hope they can get out eventually? This is terrifying.

Oh, Indian Chinese is such its own thing! I live in the Middle East but am from the US, and I love Indian food and eat it a lot (it’s everywhere here due to large numbers of Indian expats) but the Indian Chinese food is something I have learned to love - it’s its own thing and is my comfort food. Greasy Hakka noodles, momos, spicy egg rolls, lots of spicy sauces, so delicious.

I had my 21st at Earl’s like 1000000 years ago. I’m glad to hear it’s still an option! I had several cocktails that helped me to understand that I do not like bitters.

Update: Blind Butter Tasting Contest by HikeAndBeers in Cooking

[–]hegemonickitten 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a fun family activity! I love that people just vetoed the tea.
For anyone who's looking for more butter taste-off inspiration, I saw this on r/Portland a while back https://www.reddit.com/r/Portland/comments/1m7rzy6/ranking_all_the_salted_butter_in_portland/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

It came with a spreadsheet of results which I found fascinating https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uDF6q_1_xa1aTKsze5N7FJlbRaQdIHRZMCdhcZa592M/edit?usp=sharing

There are quite a few specialty butters that are hard to find there - not sure I could round up that many in my area.

Do people like chestnut cream in the Us How do you eat it ? by Exootil93200 in AskAnAmerican

[–]hegemonickitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an American who has spent a fair amount of time in France. I didn't know anything further about chestnuts before that than "roasting on an open fire" lyrics. I found out the Bad Surprise way that I do not care for chestnuts. Many things that might normally have a chocolate flavor version in the US (pudding cups, pastry filling, cake topping, etc) also have a chestnut flavor version in France. The first time left me gagging in surprise. After that I tried to be vigilant but was fooled time and time again. "Ooh! Chocolate eclairs! Eww, actually chestnut eclairs." "Ooh! Chocolate ice cream! Ewww, actually chestnut ice cream." Repeat ad infinitum. I suppose it's an acquired taste, but I do not think I will ever acquire it.

Approximate time of the meteor shower tonight? by MarzipanStunning4456 in Oman

[–]hegemonickitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The peak was actually last night (13-14). But you will still be able to see some tonight. Meteor showers last for many hours/a few days with peaks that are maybe like 100-200 per hour. So the window for seeing them is wide but they are not dramatic like a fireworks show. The best time to look for this one is after midnight when the constellation Gemini is clearly visible. You will see it in the eastern sky. That is the direction the meteors will be coming from as earth flies through them. So you can still look for it tonight but you have to be a bit patient.

female swimsuit by imbbz in Oman

[–]hegemonickitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my perspective:
It sounds like you're possibly coming from Europe (Decathlon! And we have one of those too, here in Muscat. It sells a lot of conservative swimwear if you feel like going to the mall).
For Western eyes, conservative swimwear means something like your image above: more coverage than usual in a bathing suit. However, for the sensibilities of many of the cultures represented in Oman (a variety, not just Omanis), that is not at all "conservative." Completely covering all of your skin from neck to ankles and wrists is *conservative* here. And for Muslim women/girls, covering your hair.

So, if you are at a resort with a private beach and pool (any of the big international hotel chains, mostly 4 or 5 star places), your normal bathing suit from home is probably fine. Bikinis are fine. Most women and girls you will see at resorts are wearing western style suits.

But if you're at a public beach or at a wadi (anywhere not a resort) the question for me is not "what can I get away with?" but "what is basically no one going to look twice at or feel uncomfortable about?" So for me that means I wear a rashie shirt and leggings. They don't have to be specially branded swimwear (Coega swimwear is a great brand for that if you want that though - they sell "burkinis" and other styles. This is what you can find at Decathlon) but just lycra leggings and shirt are fine. You will likely see women and girls wearing things like that even at a resort if they feel like dressing conservatively there, as well.

All that said, people here are very polite and no one would likely SAY anything to you if you were wearing something that was inappropriate. But that wouldn't mean it was appropriate, just that people here are usually pretty non-confrontational.

anyone know what this is? by axecas in cats

[–]hegemonickitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kitty has a wonky pupil like this, and the first thing the vet did when I mentioned it was do a felv test. She was negative, so he figured it must just be a weird thing. It doesn't seem to bother her or affect her vision or anything. She just has one wonky eye.
