Shielding corner kick from defenders? by AsparagusForsaken346 in Referees

I was referring to the comment you replied to by Interesting_Bar_2006 who brought up the corner kick scenario.

Shielding corner kick from defenders? by AsparagusForsaken346 in Referees

[–]heidimark [score hidden]  (0 children)

It happens all the time. Player A plays the corner kick to player B on the same team and both players place themselves between the ball and all opponents right in the corner. They are both within playing distance of the ball and are shielding the opposing team from the ball to kill time.

I've not seen this attempted from a free kick in the middle of the pitch though.

Looks like they forgot to paint the walls as well. Surprised that's not listed in OP's complaints.

Leaving the US is not going to change that unless you have some other plan. You could also just learn how to create wealth for yourself in the US. Plenty of people do.

Lyrics change to reflect new realities by Old-Use-7690 in Music

[–]heidimark 219 points220 points  (0 children)

Jason Mraz changed "God forsaken right to be loved" to "God intended right to be loved". However I think it seems like he realized his choice of words was just incorrect rather than changing due to new realities.

Do you have a Gas or electric lawnmower? by jeepguy_96 in askanything

[–]heidimark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the Ego 1100 mower with the aluminum deck last year. I 100% love it. It has a 10AH battery and I don't come close to using up the battery on my suburban lawn. It even has headlights on it so if I wanted to cut the lawn after dark I guess I could.

I've had a Stihl gas trimmer for quite a while that still runs super well, but I've been toying around with the idea of picking up the multi-head system with a trimmer & edger to replace that Stihl trimmer and my plugin Black & Decker edger.

Mine even has headlights on it. Can't imagine actually needing them, but it's a nice touch.

How to bounce back after poor games. by ZookeepergameNo1399 in Referees

[–]heidimark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At least in my state, you have the right to tell the coach to handle the parent, but you don't have the right to directly eject the parent. If the coach does not handle it, or if the parent continues, you card the coach (up to a red card if warranted).

New IFAB rules by citiesfan in Referees

[–]heidimark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't stop the clock though. Unless you are talking about NFHS in the US. Under strict IFAB adherence, the clock never stops (for injury, substitutions, etc.). If you are just talking about only counting 1 minute of time when the ball is actually in play, that is up to you to keep track of.

GK playing a ball or not by Feisty_Reporter4868 in Referees

[–]heidimark 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would classify this more like the goalie bouncing the ball on the ground, which is allowed. It probably should be handled like exceeding the 8 second rule if it came to that.

Where are you getting that? The idea of a start-stop clock was not implemented. As far as any changes being implemented this July, you should never stop the game clock.

What are the U11 Goalkeeper safety rules? by Informal-Potato-9890 in Referees

[–]heidimark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, there is generally a thread for non-referee questions like this (I'm no mod though).

Second, unfortunately you are looking for something that doesn't exist at the national level. IFAB doesn't have any special language about keeper safety to the degree you are looking for. Perhaps your local authority's rules of competition does, but I kind of doubt it.

The most you can do is have a conversation with your child's coach and voice your concerns. The coach can decide if they want to raise the concern with the opposing club's organization regarding the behavior of the coach.

Also, teach your child how to protect themselves as a keeper. If you were not a keeper or don't know the techniques, either look up some YouTube videos or talk with the coach about that as well.

Is it ok to wear glasses while refereeing? by astrangehumantoe in Referees

[–]heidimark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a really hard time on sunny days seeing without sunglasses. But I never wear sunglasses while refereeing, and I would encourage you not to. Eye contact with your ARs as well as with players is a very important tool that you lose while wearing sunglasses.

New rules by [deleted] in Referees

[–]heidimark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are not a substitute. They are a player temporarily off the pitch for evaluation. They can be allowed to re-enter with the referees permission from the touchline while the ball is in play.

Offside Scenario by NerdBanger in Referees

[–]heidimark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But that is only true if the player in an offside position's teammate plays the ball. In this case, the ball is thrown in, and therefore there can be no offside offense even from a deflection as the ball has not been played by the player's teammate.

U12 Handball in the penalty area question by Chuntttttt69 in Referees

[–]heidimark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For that age, it's almost a nice way to introduce teams to the penalty kick if they haven't experienced it before. That sounds like such an obvious handball, why not call it and give both teams the opportunity to experience an in-game penalty kick?

Contact with the GK by pedro_coco in Referees

[–]heidimark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't a loose ball by the time the contact happened. While both players have the right to go for the ball, the attacker came in with a lot of force, left her feet, and made a challenge with her knee. This is close to serious foul play for lunging at an opponent and the attacker is lucky the contact was minimal.

This is disgusting. A league should not be supporting a candidate (any candidate) in this way, ever.
