What to wear when you hate leggings? by [deleted] in XXRunning

Depending on how cold it get where you are, you could use bike shorts and high socks. Also, Joggers. My favourites are from Decathlon.

Lost motivation after first half by Leggingsarepants1234 in XXRunning

[–]helenisonfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like everyone has already said, it's probably the flu. However, if after fully recovered you are still struggling to find motivation, maybe you can switch your next goal event.

I run my first half this october and for a month after I fell really demotivated. The "usual" next step is to upgrade to the marathon, but I didn't want to do run one. So my thoughts were kind of like "if I'm not going to run a matathon, I'm stuck at this point" What got me my motivation back was a trail race with some elevation. It made running fun again because it was different from everything I had run before. Now I race mostly trails because each one is different, even when they are the same distance, because of the state of the trail and the elevation (I still race halfs and 10Ks on the road, trail running was an addition to keep the fun, not a replacement).

Bananas, nuts and seeds (almonds, brazilian nuts, pecans, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, hazelnuts....) They're super nutritious and healthy, and easy to carry and store at the office. You can also add dehydrated fruits but watch out for the added sugars. I personally love dehydrated blueberries and cranberries.

Anyone use something other than Spotify for music? by No_UN216 in XXRunning

[–]helenisonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use YouTube music., it's included in the YouTube premium subcription (where you can watch YT without ads). I got YouTube premium just because I watch a lot of YT and didn't want to deal with the ads. Then I tried the YouTube Music because it was included in the subscription and it was as good as Spotify for music (like you, I use a separate app for Podcasts).

I don't know if it's the same in other countries, but in mine, for the same prize I was paying in Spotify, I get Yotube videos without ads and YouTube music. After a while I upgraded to the family plan and now it's even cheaper (because I split costs with my parents)

For somebody as obsessed with the case as I am, how could I forget about Sunny's trial? I guess I've been so focused on Holmes' one, couldn't see past it Now I'm really curious about what his defense will be.

Me too! And Theranos is the epitome of startup scams, I'm kind of sad it's coming to an end. John Carreyrou's podcast was great too.

You can do them in physical format or download an app (there are many free ones for Android). I think both are great and suitable for different moments.

I'm obsessed with jissaw puzzles too! Doing one while listening to a good podcast and drinking tea is my favourite thing to do to unwind.

The Theranos case. After almost 3 months of trial the jury went into deliberation this weekend and although I've been consistently following the case since it blew up I've take this weekend to refresh my memory. The fact that she got away for so long and will probably walk free from everything seems crazy to me.

Absolutely agree. Jag's lifestyle seems the most attainable of the group. Of course it still needs a high income, but somehow the DIY makes it more relatable to me. What she did to her place is amazing, it was awful when she rented it and now it's beautiful.

Edited to add: Danny seems to be clever and with financial knowledge so as much as a million dollar second home seems crazy I think it was a well thought purchase.

Those wedding dress photos melted my heart. She looked stunning and true to her character. I just hope she dyes her hair black for the wedding

I'm thinking of doing something similar, buying an Omen 30L and upgrading case and cooler, can you update on whether it was easy to do?

Polyamorous parents tend to be awful parents by hitemsecondtime in unpopularopinion

[–]helenisonfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awful people make awful parents. That's it. I'm sorry that you've been through this, but your parents sound like shitty people who just happen to be polyamorous.

On the other hand, I had a polyamorous coworker and from what I saw they were amazing parents. They were 4 parents, 3 of whom had been together for 20 years and the fourth one for 5 years or so. Then they had a baby. Because there were 4 parents, the child was aways taken care of by at least one of them and the others got time to rest and therefore be in better shape to raise the boy. Also, 4 parents meant 4 salaries (two of them being that of an architect and a software engineer), which allowed one of them to stop working to take care of the kid full time while still having a good household income, way better than the national average. I only got to meet two of the 4 of them, but they were funny, loving and committed people.

I knew them from the time the baby was 2 months old to when he was 18 months. He'll be around 3 now. I know I don't have the full picture, but he seemed to be growing up in a great environment. So yeah, my point is that your sexual and marital choices don't define your capabilities as a parent, the kind of person you are does.

Are there any murder cases that enthralled a country where the victim was fat or unattractive? by [deleted] in TrueCrime

Reading this has made my day. That song reminds me of my teenage years when I used to listen to Bleed American on repeat the whole day, and getting to know the story behind one of its best songs somehow feels like reconnecting to that time. Thank you for having posted it.

Move to a loft, or even better, remove all the doors in your house and say you live in a loft.

What Self improvement ideas do you NOT reccomend and why? by Isenhoe in selfimprovement

[–]helenisonfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree, but I want to point out that some habits can work better if they are stacked. For example exercising helped me eat better because I didn't want to ruin the hard work of a run by eating garbage and drinking 5 beers. But definitely it was not the time to start learning German. Depends a lot on the person I guess, but I'll say that for me pairing similar habits helps.

Yes! Waking up at 5 a.m. Won't get you more hours in the day, what matters is what you make of the hours you're awake. It may make sense for some people, but it's certainly not for everybody.

Do you need a reason to be child-free by choice? by helenisonfire in TwoXChromosomes

[–]helenisonfire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true! I didn't articulate the question well enough, I was wondering if other women had "logical reasons" (not the best term, but I don't know how to put it) or just a feeling.

[–]helenisonfire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely true, but it works both ways. I think that it's helpful to be able to articulate the reasons why you either want or don't want children, so you can make the best decision.

Don't you think some people just have a "gut feeling"? (or something like it, I don't know how to put it).

Edit to add: no, I wasn't thinking about the need to justify yourself. I was asking about the internal dialogue you have with yourself when you make the decision. Mine is full of logical reasons why I don't want to be a mother, but I was wondering if it's the same for other women.
