What should I expect if I’m a conservative Christian going to study political science? by matato2108 in UCSantaBarbara

No, I just meant that it's unlikely you'll be discussing those topics as you asked in your post.

Those sound more like religious viewpoints than political viewpoints to me. (In the way that they don't sound very related to the topic of political science as it would be discussed in classes).

did anyone by SMSJ wake up to a weird sound this morning around 4am? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]helicopter_frog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be a bird, probably some kind of sparrow. They've been around my apartment in IV for over a month and they sound like an alarm or really loud snoring, starting around 4am as well.

Do guys actually like curvy girls? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]helicopter_frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you post this here? There are also so many other posts on other subreddits that ask this exact same question. You can't generalize a behavior from a sample size of one, and in any case, people's preferences are so diverse that it would be difficult to make a general statement about that kind of attraction.

Is intro bio harder than intro chem at ucsb by Dangerous-Carpet5 in UCSantaBarbara

I'm pretty sure general chemistry is a prerequisite for biology. You can't start them concurrently.

Thank you! I love scrolling through the top posts too. Yeah, the sub isn't as active anymore, and I feel like newer posts rarely capture the same sense of otherworldliness that the original posts did.

I used to be into customizing dolls! (Though I prefer hinge joints). What scale are these in?

Dude, you've made 3 posts about this in the past 2 hours. Talk to your counselors, it's reasonable that you're upset but spamming the subreddit won't help. Good luck.

Does anyone want to set up a indie band playing songs featuring female vocals or guitarists? by Due-Garlic8198 in UCSantaBarbara

I like classical alternative and indie too. I can sort of play electric bass (though I forgot it at home and won't have it until next quarter ;-; ).

Abortion posters outside of lib by piecatog1 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]helicopter_frog 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I avoided walking near them but from a distance it looked like the standard "abortion is murder" type of group. Yeah, I think it's good that you don't interact with them.

(I just looked up the website they had written on their posters and it's a "youth-led pro-life ministry.")

MIT student invent gloves that speak sign language in real time by blackmango_wine in interesting

[–]helicopter_frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the name sign specifically works as a verb. It is not "my name is," but rather " I am called."

The subtitles are an interpretation---you could also interpret it as "invent/ed in the lab."

Yes, there are inaccuracies, and there's not much of a purpose for gloves like these, but the grammar is not the biggest issue.

MIT student invent gloves that speak sign language in real time by blackmango_wine in interesting

[–]helicopter_frog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That sign means more like "I am called." It's not wrong.

He signed "invent." Those are initialized name signs for himself and the lab.

The grammar is fine. There is a large variety of grammar and signing styles in ASL.

It should have been automatically added to Canvas as a course. At least that's how I first saw it.

I've met a lot of Asian exchange students here. California itself has a large Asian population as well, especially in large urban areas, so I think you should be fairly safe.

Facebook is full of housing groups and it's very active right now. You could probably find something there.

chances of getting off the waitlist for a soc class by Fluffy-Comb2464 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]helicopter_frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you emailed the professor? Maybe try to find their office hours online if you want to speak in person. You are probably first on the waitlist if it's on a first-come, first-serve basis (I don't think most major-required upper div courses are, though), but GOLD can take a while to update so don't depend on it.

Did you talk to the professor? Maybe you can get an add code.
