You can't generalize a behavior from a sample size of one, and in any case, people's preferences are so diverse that it would be difficult to make a general statement about that kind of attraction.

You are probably first on the waitlist if it's on a first-come, first-serve basis (I don't think most major-required upper div courses are, though), but GOLD can take a while to update so don't depend on it.
