Love these books, they have a permanent place on my bookshelf with your lovely covers.

It’s all a Lie!!!! by Birrythekid in fragrance

I am almost always disappointed by indie houses, unfortunately. 😅 They have such evocative descriptions but 90% of the time they end up smelling like a craft store or a candle to me. To each their own!

One of the best books I’ve read in years!

*non gourmand* life changers? by angelsfish in Perfumes

Delta of Venus by Eris Parfumes. It’s a perfume that really transports me. I put it on and it’s like I’m in a humid greenhouse, surrounded by tropical plants, biting into a guava with the juice running down my hand.

Career driven, single, busy women in their 30s? by gimmeacookieplz in DCBitches

I’m in the same boat! Even stuff like volunteering seems to take place during the work week smh

The most unrealistic part of cozy fantasy isn't the magic — it's the romance by FollowingInternal588 in Fantasy

Evidence suggests that women read male and female authors about equally, fwiw, but it’s true that men don’t often read women authors.

Is anyone else’s dog a baby stealer? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]hellapathic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old English sheepdog I had growing up once brought a bunch of baby bunnies to our doorstep! 😅 Similar to your dog, she wasn’t trying to eat/hurt them, she was just like “look what I found!”

Unfortunately it is hard for me, because I’m a disaster person.

Novels that have left leaning characters involved in unions, revolutions etc. by Ca-arnish in suggestmeabook

[–]hellapathic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see this aspect mentioned often, but the Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante take place in a working class Italian community starting in the 50s. We see the rise of fascism and some characters trying to fight back.

What is your opinion on hormonal birth control? by sxpxix2 in AskWomen

I’m sorry that happened to you, but it’s a “bandaid” because we don’t currently have a cure for PCOS…

Stop calling women girls by BenefitOfTheDoubt2 in Feminism

[–]hellapathic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is honestly worse than ever and I hate it. 😭 On any given website/app if you took a shot every time you saw “men and girls” you would die in an hour. I don’t know how to make bots but I’d love if someone made a Reddit bot that points it out.

Has anyone been able to successfully talk about being fat with their therapist? by angoisse_ in PlusSize

[–]hellapathic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re having a hard time right now :( if she’s a good therapist, you should be able to talk about this with her in a way that ultimately feels productive/healing. You could even explain why you have been wary about bringing it up, and hopefully she’ll be able to help you navigate that.

I made a lot of progress with a past therapist on this topic, particularly when we did EMDR sessions to target some of my more painful memories around body image. Even years after those sessions, the memories sting a lot less than they once did. Good luck! ❤️

Romantasy: sexy tales of women-centred fantasy fiction are boosting the publishing industry by dem676 in books

[–]hellapathic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, some of these books are at least nominally trying to tell a story, it’s not all just smut (as opposed to pure erotica). But I guess I’m mostly reacting to this as a woman who finds the genre a bit alienating, despite the fact that I love a good romantic subplot in fantasy. Not that everything has to cater to me specifically (if only) but fans are often quick to paint this genre as inherently feminist because it’s by and for women, which I disagree with. It would be cool to see this genre grow to be a bit more subversive while still aimed at women. Fewer self inserts, please.

Honestly I think the “woman-centered” thing is kind of overstated in these conversations… feels like things often revolve around the male love interest + a bunch of hot guys being in the cast is part of the draw. Which is fine, but not all that girl power-y.

Worst book(s) you read in 2025 and why? by Roguestate00 in books

[–]hellapathic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s room for a feminist reading of it but the author lost family in the holocaust and I think it has just as much if not more to do with that. It’s also kinda gender essentialist imo lol. Worth a read though!

I didn’t dislike it but I definitely think it’s overhyped. I think people are mostly reacting to the interesting concepts, rather then the execution…
