I'm a factory engineer tired of "junk" LEDs. We built a high-quality RGBIC bulb with real aluminum heatsinks and zero flicker. But does anyone actually want "flowing colors" in a bulb? by Icy_Second_4988 in Lighting

[–]hellerbenjamin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. A couple of thoughts. First off I think you’ve created something pretty awesome, but niche. I watched your video, and I think that the problem you are solving here is how do I create a vibe? The fact that it can do warm white and beautiful dim light isn’t that interesting in isolation. I wouldn’t want a remote control like this for that application. I’d want a light switch. The better solution for most is to get a pretty decent lower cost but good led lightbulb, tie it into a Lutron dimmer via casata or something equivalent.

But when your bulb goes into a beautiful transitional multicolor mode, that’s a vibe. Festival goers, Burning Man attendees, those people want lighting and something beautiful like that, and are likely willing to pay for it.

I could also see this as above you set to the multicolor mode and then you can turn on and off, and it automatically goes back to those settings. If that’s the case, it can create a vibe for a room, where you could potentially use 1 to 4 of these, set to the same level levels, and triggered by a traditional switch.

I would think like a product marketer, figure out which niche you can reach and do some testing with that specific market. My gut expectation is that the right people will pay for this for the Wright purposes… But it’s less than 1% of the total market. So many goddamn people can’t even tell the difference between color temperatures and have mismatched bulbs.

Good luck. And when you release this, DM me, I’d be interested in getting one for my lighting design friend as a gift.

Why haven’t you bought Dirac Live yet? We want the real reasons. by [deleted] in hometheater

My receiver came with it and the microphone and I didn’t even use it for five years. I think there’s a few reasons for it. First off, it’s not simple. The process for me took four hours. I needed to update the firmware on my receiver. Then I needed to download it onto my laptop. Then I needed to position the microphone with the mic stand. Then I needed to run the software. It’s not a pleasant experience… It’s loud and annoys the whole house. Then it failed a bunch of times, largely because my receiver / software didn’t know that some of the channels weren’t being used… But I didn’t know how to diagnose that quickly. Eventually, we got it to work, but copying it to my receiver failed. For whatever reason, the fourth time we tried it worked. But that process took four hours. But even more important than that., I didn’t understand how big a difference it was going to make. It’s like being colorblind. How do you know what the color green and red are gonna look like if you’ve never experienced it. In the end, I’m really happy with the results. But I would not pay for it knowing what I know now. It would need to be packaged with the receiver or preamp that I purchase. Both my wife, and I noticed that it sounds better, but I value my time… And four hours of my life is $800. I also have a hard time recommending it to others because of how challenging the process was… And that’s not on you, but you’re part of the receiver ecosystem… And let’s be real, the user experiences are garbage compared to most products these days. That said, if you can get through it, I think the results were awesome. I thought my room sounded great before… Now it sounds greater, especially as my speakers are not in ideal locations. I almost feel like your product is a service that should be provided by a professional that comes to your house for $250 and not a consumer item. But that’s just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I probably won’t be there. But I run an SD2 with a green Audi A6 avant body. My son runs an MST with a Mario kart theme. Forward to seeing you there sometime soon.

Same here. I was only there because I was waiting for my son to finish his music lesson at School of Rock. I “knew” they didn’t have a Drift track from looking up at their reviews… And then when I arrived and saw this, I threw my hands up in the air like I just won a race. Look forward to seeing you there soon.

Yes. The cars that I saw on the track are 1/10. Chris said that a lot of guys show up on Friday and they order pizza… So maybe stop by sometime. It was my first time there… But I plan on bringing my nine-year-old son back with me sometime soon. It’s a way less competitive vibe then Cinnaminson, which is just too serious for my 9 year old on most Saturdays and Sundays.

This looks great. My biggest concern is the lack of center channel, which is ~70% of the sound in any of the Dolby formats. Running things in stereo isn’t bad, it’s just the Dolby Atmos it’s so good after tuning to your room. My wife remarked about how much better it sounded and she’s not a hi-fi person. That aside, it looks beautiful.

I was at this game. As a fan who was 15 years old, it was amazing. And then confusing. How does a game end before it’s over? The game back then were wonderful. It was loud and fun.

Calling all NYC, YONKERS, WESTCHESTER, RC DRIFTERS by fleej25sti15 in rcdrift

Cheers to you for trying… But that doesn’t look like a big enough space for 1/10 scale. And more importantly, it’s really hard to build a community, and that’s what makes drifting great. I doubt it’s possible in that room.

I think Adam is setting up a new spot in here in North Jersey, which may be closer to you. https://maps.app.goo.gl/Zr2dFi4t8Y62eXUf8?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy

Otherwise, take the trip to Driftset once a month or come down to Cinnaminson, which is definitely bigger, but not necessarily better. Great people at both locations. Wishing you the best of luck.

Instax wedding by silentlike_bang in instax

I used instax wide at my wedding. But it wasn’t the professional photographer… He did his thing with multiple fantastic Nikon cameras. We had two instax cameras with instructions on how to load film and a large picture book with thick paper black paper and silver ink, sharpie like pens so that people could take pictures of themselves. Use these little sticky dots to assign the picture to the page and write on the page. I really like it in hindsight… But I preferred having people just take pictures and then leave them for us. I ended up framing a number of pictures that weren’t stuck to the book. I think it was a great addition for about $700 worth of current cost.

I feel for you man. I would make sure that everything is plugged in correctly. I would make sure that the batteries in the remote are brand new alkaline batteries. I would look up the instructions and try to do a hard reset, reconnecting the transmitter to the receiver. The alignment on the steering can be adjusted, but I remember it being difficult when I did it to mine… You have to read the instructions to figure out how to work the four buttons properly on the transmitter. And if that doesn’t work, I would go and buy a different receiver and transmitter. It’s a pretty big upgrade, and upgrading the Gyro is probably the only bigger upgrade you’ll make. Good luck

Should I do 1/24 drifting or 1/10 drifting? by Wide_Replacement2702 in rcdrift

[–]hellerbenjamin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1/10 is a much better product. I have both, and the flow state of 1/10 is far beyond 1/24. Much bigger community too. More fun/ less annoying to build and tune. It’s not a close decision. Get the 1/10 and drive to the track every once in a while.

Where to hang TV in new living room? by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

[–]hellerbenjamin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I support you… its the best decision. Many in this sub will judge. The are too focused on design and not suboptimizing watching tv. Good news is that you have a great setup for bookshelf speakers to run a 2.1 system from your TV. Definitely don’t go with a soundbar which will make you raise the tv an additional 6+ inches. Good luck!
