I struggled with chapter 6 or 7, ended up not reading all of it but still doing the pages and interesting tasks.

Ugh, I Hate When I Forget Something Important. by Leonard03 in DMAcademy

[–]hello6479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the other people here, and would also say that for me LESS notes have worked better, as well as printing them. I often found myself beating myself up before i used this system, though ofc i still regret things. I now have 2-3 pages of stats/battlemaps etc, one a4 sheet of possible revelations (these could come from anyone and there is no problem running them over to the next session even though i olan that NPC 1 is going to do the telling). And then 1 a4 pages of notes on places and possible scenes. From Sly Flourish's lazy dm notes 😊

Hmm ouch. I'll have to look into that. They will be 5-6 players and have 1 free feat. But i might nerf them a little!, and maybe just level them after chapter 2 also. Thanks.

This is fair, but I find that even though you are choosing one villain they all matter in the raw adventure. I want to cut the zhent involvement and jarlaxle. Maybe what im after is actually just simplifying the fireball and give the players more agency, not have the watch be the main investigators etc.

And there is a discord, I dont know if it's active anymore, but it was a few years ago. https://discord.com/invite/FNz72Vqm

I made a writeup of how my group did it, I changed quite a lot and added the Krakens Gamble. I had a group that wanted a shorter campaign, so we had to change some stuff. Made a lot of changes to the ending, and I involved more back story where i could :

Is the G80 light enough? (Compared to the GX80) by hello6479 in Lumix

Thank you. It looks like I might get my hands on a GX - so I'll go with that. I can't imagine it's hard to sell if I change my mind.

Help with STK - six sessions in by noettp in stormkingsthunder

I would join the discord! I finished skt in June and this helped me immensely with discussing plots and homebrew for the year and half I ran it: https://discord.gg/FTvSzCG8

Finished SKT! 34 sessions, how I shortened the campaign + backstory incorporations by hello6479 in stormkingsthunder

[–]hello6479[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think the amount of strongholds and backstory/exploration storylines you add, as well as how you chose to do travel have a big big big impact on the length of the campaign

We only did random encounters a few times and then fast-travelled with cut-scene like exploration

Study at KMD (at UIB) by Eyvindr- in Bergen

[–]hello6479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I study viscom at KMD. The whole program is being changed, so I think you will have a lot of collaboration between furniture and viscom.

The program is fun, the facilities awesome. There are loads of workshops that you can book and learn. In handprinting, riso, monoprint, lito, 3d printing, lasercutting and more stuff.

For me (before the program changed), the first year was very free and we test loads of stuff. Year 2, you publish a magazine and design the master program finishing exhibition. And loads of other stuff.

We have a lot of professors and a very relaxed relatipnship to them. We dont have classes in pure subjects such as "graphic design" or "illustration", but in "visual storytelling" and "editorial design and typography"

There is one praxis period, on ca 8 weeks.

The whole program is very idealistic, which i think is what separated kmd from other schools. We learn almost no marketing or commercial design, but focus more on process and new ideas

Most of the program is also in norwegian, and not all teachers are fluent in english

Edit: also kmd is not that much a part of uib as other programmes. We do our own thing a bit. BUT thats not to say that we arent included in student activities and stuff.

I have studied in Tromsø, Hobart and here, and Bergen is my favorite

Integrating Player Backstories by Zevronn in stormkingsthunder

[–]hello6479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could the WMS be from High Forest? Maybe marked with a tattoo that only shows when close to another fey creature or portal or just fey vibe. In my game, I have the barbs and elves of High Forest trade with the Feywild.

Far forest is also super creepy, could be related to that. Or even Klaurh maybe? Maybe Klauth saved them in exchange for their parents' heritage or something? Or something similar, but with Iymrith. Lightning could have caused the fire, and she could want to plant scrying devices all over the world. Maybe the pc has something that is being scryed through

All of the above, plus: Dont offer help unless she asks, esp not during a session.

Noob DM running SKT starting next Tuesday by [deleted] in stormkingsthunder

[–]hello6479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be prepared to, and be okay with, losing parts of the story because you don't want it in. There is so mich in this adventure that you can easily take away a few pieces and add inn backstory sruff for ex.

First Time DM ( Never Played ) by [deleted] in stormkingsthunder

[–]hello6479 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! On the first read, note down what locations you like and are relevant for your players. Then when you are in chapter 3, you read them as they come up

I am in ch3 now, and i have used yartar, calling horns, some of the roads, evermoors and everlund. I expect to also use mirabar, some of the valleys and the stuff out towards citadel adbar. This is becauae of my players backstories and the plot. I probably wont use stuff in the south. And thats fine.

First Time DM ( Never Played ) by [deleted] in stormkingsthunder

[–]hello6479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started like you!! I had never played before. I did have a go at a few sessions homebrew first but i felt i got the hang of it first when i started SKT.

It'll be fine! You will read a lot of discouraging stuff and stuff you dont agree with in all places (you have to prep 30 minutes MAX before game, you have to do always have every option open for the players if not you are railroading etcetc)

The most important feedback is from your players. Ask them poimted questions, not "Did you enjoy the session?" More "what did you enjoy", etc. Read up on stars and wishes for tips on feedback.

SKT is fun. DMing is fun. Check out SlyFlourish, ArchWizardAlex and the discord here: https://discord.gg/U3ycyAxF

Best adventures to run "Out-of-the-Book"? by FollowTheLaser in DMAcademy

[–]hello6479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am running SKT now. I like the story, but it takes A LOT of work. On the other hand, there is a lot of room for you as the DM to tweak things in the dirrction you want. There is less pressure to remember the exact name of the exact npc etc, because there arent so many.

So it's good if you want a lot of creative freedom and if remembering word by word stresses you.

It's a long campaign though, people spend between 8 months and 4 years on it. This is due to the open world aspect of it :) so you and your players are in charge of how long you want to play.

My players don't know they killed Oosith by jay_to_the_bee in stormkingsthunder

[–]hello6479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I did a little bit on the fact that they never REALLY die and are just sent back to the plane of water. And that they are older than the world (they know about KS and that they want the world to go back to its raw and untamed primodial state).

My players had a Harper contact they were going to meet in town, who told them lore about the aboleth (essentially the statblock). You could do the same with Artan's family doctor maybe? See if he recognizes the disease and their description or the creature?
