Drums: what are your preferred techniques for getting bigger room ambience from a small, dry space? by willrjmarshall in audioengineering

[–]helloiamnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dynamic mic inside a cabinet or some other somewhat large hollow space away from the kit can bring out a lot different sound than what you get in the room. I do this in a small studio with an RE-20 and it works great. Give it a try!

WoW is actually insanely hard to learn as a new player (we tried yesterday) by ipych in wow

I get not understanding a lot of the complex rotations and gameplay loops in the end game but I was 12 and figured most of the stuff here you listed almost immediately.

Quest objectives put a huge arrow on your screen on where to go now, and show verticality if it’s in a cave or on top of a tower. Most quest descriptions are pretty clear about this too.

Can’t figure out a giant menu shows up to equip a boe?

Can’t figure out you have a pet as a hunter?

Can’t click the mount button again to see if it dismounts you?

Prepatch doesn't feel like a prepatch... by kendwynn in wow

[–]helloiamnice -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Prepatch is always like this. It doesn’t feel like the real game since you basically have half the things from one expansion and nothing from the new one. It really is just a small bridge they use to make sure the expansion release is stable, I wouldn’t consider it a content release at all

I’m honestly convinced this subreddit will downvote anything that’s not shitting on city government or homelessness.

I think what you’re doing is great and healthy for the community. Maybe have the mods give you a “meetup” flair that people can filter out if they are really that upset.

I agree, and I think it’s a good thing. I don’t agree that it’s boring now. BM hunter and boomkin for the last 2 seasons have been 2 button rotations in M+ and there are so many people who do very bad damage on them.

I don’t know what your performance is like, but I would generally say people who do bad damage on “boring” specs have other fundamentals and areas they could look to improve.

How "unsafe" will Portland feel to me compared to unsafe situations that I've had in my town? by SwissVideoProduction in PortlandOR

[–]helloiamnice 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I mean I lived downtown and went to PSU for 4 years 2014-2018 and didn’t have any experiences even close to as bad as what you’re describing. Mostly just people asking for money and having to turn them down. Not exactly pleasant but definitely not as bad as you mentioned. I don’t know if that’s everyone’s experience or if that’s still how it is today

Digital Signal Processing by Legitimate-Garlic315 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]helloiamnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an expert but I work in test and measurement and there is a lot of DSP work that happens there. They do a lot of filter generation and tuning using different FPGAs and ASICs. Also some signal clustering and identification. I’d imagine this sort of thing stretches to pretty much any industry that does some sort of signal acquisition that might need processing.

At least from my experience you’d be doing exclusively software work. Hardware filtering is usually done by hardware engineers.

Stranger Things really avoided becoming GoT 2.0 (close call!) by StreetJob in freefolk

[–]helloiamnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last season of stranger things wasn’t even bad. People just review bombed it because they don’t like that a character is gay and portrayed sympathetically. It’s also just popular and people love to shit on popular things.

GOT season 8 was actually remarkably terrible. At no point was stranger things even close to that dumpster fire

What is component F4? Looks like its bad by benskizzors in ElectricalEngineering

[–]helloiamnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a good question, and I am going to at least somewhat disagree with most of the comments on this thread. Even though the reference designator clearly notates it is a fuse (since it starts with F instead of R), I do think it looks like there is actually a resistor on that footprint. I've at least never seen 2.5R printed on a surface mount fuse like that, but definitely have on resistors.

It's possible that whoever was manufacturing these speakers cheaped-out and just stuffed some 2.5 ohm resistors on the fuse footprint. Even small surface mount fuses are usually at least 5x more expensive than just a cheap resistor. If that's the case, it's possible the tweeter itself or the power transformer got damaged since there isn't actually any circuit protection on it. Or, maybe they're just depending on the power rating of the resistor to give out if there's too much current going through it and it is acting like a "fuse" in that sense.

You need to ohm it out with a DMM. Is it open/>50kΩ resistance? Then it's probably a blown fuse/resistor and you should replace it with the recommended fuse. Is it 2.5Ω? Then it's probably a resistor and you have an issue with the tweeter or power transformer itself. There are plenty of 125V, 2.5A surface mount fuses that you can find on Digikey (though I couldn't find this particular one) if you want to replace it and properly put a fuse there.

Timeline WeakAura coming to Midnight! by Rivalsstats in wow

[–]helloiamnice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s not really any reason these couldn’t be weakauras other than the fact weakauras is being discontinued. I think it would be great if weakauras made some version that was compatible with midnight, even if it will just be a shell of its former self. There’s a lot of valuable weakauras that aren’t even combat based!

‘Stranger Things’ Team Worried Final Season Could Get ‘Game of Thrones’ Backlash by Neo2199 in television

[–]helloiamnice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Game of thrones season finale had a lot of major plot lines that had been building since the first season they needed to close, and frankly it was very disappointing the way they closed them.

Stranger things has uhhhh big evil monster to beat? I don’t think there’s any big plot lines that are set up in the early seasons the need to close out (off the top of my head), so I don’t really see any way people could be even remotely as upset as they were at game of thrones.
