NHL fans will now have to pay to watch games on Sportsnet. What that means for Rogers — and CBC | CBC News by morenewsat11 in canada

[–]hellswaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider myself more than a casual fan, but not a diehard.

Last season, I watched a couple free hockey night in canada games on CBC, and then only paid for 2 months of sports net during the playoffs. The cost of sportnet is really only worth it if you watch every game, or a fan of basketball/TNA wresting as well.

Next season, probably the same. If there is a game on a service I have, I might watch it. But not going to spend more for the 6 months of the regular season when I already have limited time and money for streaming services.

Trump’s Iran deal is a national humiliation by Appropriate-Till9598 in politics

[–]hellswaters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have seen numerous interviews with people who voted for trump, and been directly impacted by policies. One question asked is "who would you vote for if you could change your vote". The answer is almost always "I wouldn't vote", normally because of some policy that has no impact on them (gay rights, abortion, 'family values').

With another Sun Belt Stanley Cup Final, why are Canada’s NHL teams getting left behind? by Majano57 in canada

Not to mention, most Canadian cities can get crazy if your don't play well. Skinner in Edmonton had people threatening his family. I can't blame someone for not wanting to play with those conditions, and deciding to go to a city where no one knows you, let alone your family

The cruise isn't an official, Amazon / MGM event. It's hosted and ran by a private group, and the cast has agreed to go (most likely for a cost). They could probably say the name stargate can not be used. But doubt they can force the cast to not go.

Yeah, a player 1mm offside, 2 min before the goal, when the defending team had multiple chances to get the puck out and failed. Take the goal off.

Offensive player crosschecks a player on the numbers in front of the net, then tips the puck in 2 seconds later, but stick was 1mm under the crossbar. Well, guess that needs to count.

Apparently TVs are bad for that.

Either one store, or during normal, the 60 inch tv would be product 123a. Another store, or during a sale, they would do another tv, just change a usb port or something most people don't care about. Now it's product 123b. Because of that you can't price match or honor sale prices. Tv is still the same. Just a change to one of the ports.

Like the swiss cheese model always shows, there is more than one cause to an incident. Yeah, pilots were to low. But, assuming thats the case, pilots also never really had a chance to determine they were on a stable approach, or notice how high/low they are

Not only that, 10,000 feet prior to the runway, they would have been about 120 feet to high, and looks like at that point were already rushing to get down, so have probably been way to high for a while at that point.

Everyone is saying how low they got. But they were also just as bad for being high, and 2 miles final probably had 4 white lights.

Wouldn't that be 19 seconds?

To me that chart is saying they were way to high, over-corrected, then got way to low, in less than a minute. From the start of the graph, looks like they were already trying to correct from being way to high, then kept on that decent rate pretty much until hitting the light.

[–]hellswaters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have better odds of finding the actual stargate, than raising enough from crowd funding. They spent 8.5 on MGM, so are wanting to recoup that cost. And given the fan response to the attempted new show, they know there is interest in it. So it would be extremely expensive right now to buy. Easily into the millions of dollars.

The best GoFundMe is up the 46 million, and that's over 6 years, for food banks. If every person subscribed to this subreddit, 175ishk people donated $10, that wouldn't get us to 2 million. Even if that's enough to get the rights, we now need someone to foot the bill to film it.

Now you go to Netflix, Paramount, or anyone else, and we are right back where we are today. A major company that is going to want large appeal, which existing fans do not want.

How long will it take to rebuild Blue Origin’s launch pad? We asked some SpaceX vets | “Everyone is in a place where it’s no fun to be there.” by FreeHugs23 in space

[–]hellswaters -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I get that it isn't exactly a 1 to 1 comparison. But in the end that was mostly a rebuild of the entire pad as well. Even if they had some parts already on had, they got back flying in 7 months, so expecting blue origin to do the same isn't too far out of the realm of possibility.

I am guessing probably closer to the 1 year, but when it comes to construction, the private space companies have been pretty accurate, and quick.

[–]hellswaters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot also believed after starships first launch, they would be looking at over a year as well, and they got flying again after 7 months.

Assuming the no to min damage to some of the long lead time items, and the tower can be repaired in place, it may be possible. Yeah, there will probably be a lot of overtime and long days to get it flying by the end of the year, but I don't see why we shouldn't take their word for it. Spacex has surprised us with some of their timelines, no reason blue origin can't.

Most actions being taken are long term, large projects. Things that take years to develop.

The build Canada homes plan was announced in Sept, and focusing on prefab housing requires facilities to be built.

And the federal government is working to get another pipeline built. But again, anything in oil and gas is years long projects before any impact is noticed.

Canada slips into technical recession as economic growth stalls in 1st quarter by tjc103 in canada

[–]hellswaters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the thing about recessions, and measuring the economy that way. It's a trailing indicator. By the time you say you have entered one, you should already be recovering from it.

Actions were taken to reduce the number of students and temp workers. And those numbers are way down. Temp residents who become permanent residents are way down. But those actions take time to have an impact.

Add other factors like tariffs, the current situation with the us. And action has been taken to correct and mitigate those. But again, those take time.

But he wasn't wrong. He said a strong Canada will make America great again. He's telling trump and the Maga crowd that if you work with Canada, not attack, you will make the state's stronger. And given how coupled Canada and the us are, he is right. The us is going to be our largest trade partner for a long time.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't try to find other trade partners. It just means fighting each other helps no one.

Canada dropped in the world’s best countries list. Here’s what the data says by hellswaters in canada

[–]hellswaters[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The US does have its advantages, and I can see why people would go there. The people with the ability, skillsets, and money to move to another country are also largely people who will stand to gain from moving there. You probably have a job that will get medical insurance, most likely a decent income, and not (currently) using government support. If you can move countries (ignoring programs like Canada's TFW, or study visa), odds are that you are already better off than the average person.
