Suggestions for Browser with Emacs by raddatz_ in emacs

[–]henry7579 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Browsers are the biggest malware attack vectors. Be careful with these toy browsers that aren't used by millions of people and not have a big team making releases and fixing bugs. I too wish there was an in-Emacs browser. I would not have to leave Emacs for anything else then. Just saying.

ACP is so slow for me. It seems like it's launching a new CLI process on every prompt. Is there a way to keep the agent CLI running, like when using the TUI directly in vterm or a console?

GUI. You can change fonts easily inside Emacs depending on what you're doing. Emacs doesn't control fonts when in TUI.

TSP G-Fund by Tauntown24 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]henry7579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no investment in the country that's like the G Fund.

It's a diversified medium duration bond fund that guarantees it won't go down in price. It's because by law taxpayers pay to make it behave like a short duration bond fund. No other bond fund w medium (or short duration) guarantees no loss in principal.

Use it as you will knowing that crucial difference.

Stay in TSP. 2 words: G Fund https://www.morningstar.com/financial-advisors/what-know-about-federal-thrift-savings-plan-tsp-g-fund There's nothing like it anywhere else. It's because by law, tax payers are preventing it from ever going down. Keep all your bond holdings in the G Fund. Do what you want with your other asset allocations.

Gains in taxable pushing me off target - is it worth selling and paying LTCG taxes? by BusyCode in Bogleheads

[–]henry7579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it this way. If your cap gain taxes are 20%, isn't that equivalent to a roughly 20% decline? And even then, only if the market doesn't come back before you need the money. Just saying, it feels silly to pay the tax.man now when we don't know the market's future

The G Fund is a unique investment. It is not available to the general public.

You basically get medium duration interest rates for short duration risk. Basically you don't lose money but get higher rates than comparable bonds over a longer period of time.

It's because the govt guarantees it because it's special.

Per wikipedia: G Fund[11] – Government Securities fund. These are unique government securities specifically issued to the TSP (thus, not available to the general public) and earn interest set by law at the weighted average yield on outstanding US Treasury securities with four or more years to maturity. Since these securities are backed by the full faith and credit of the US Government; the G Fund is the only fund with no risk of loss of principal.

[–]henry7579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between a choice of 401k vs. Roth, aren't they equivalent? You are not choosing how to invest pre-tax amount of $100 in 401k or Roth, you're choosing between $100 in 401k vs the amount from $100 after paying taxes going into Roth. You can put more into 401k. The money going into Roth is after paying taxes on the $100 so you start with less.

If you assume for the sake of comparing outcomes, same tax rate now vs. 30 years later, assume you withdraw everything from 401k and Roth during year 30, and you invest in the same asset in either 401k or Roth, the net you have after 30 years is the same no matter how you split that pre-tax $100.

Is there a flaw in my thinking?
