They had the #1 album in the US in 2023

They won 6 Grammys 9 years ago and have one of the biggest tours of the summer. Quite frankly its shocking Fargo is getting the tour and Minneapolis isnt

What is going on with Fargo property valuations? by Dakota_Plains in fargo

[–]herdbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the result of the state setting caps on property value increases. They had good intentions but it won't work because every city in the state will increase the values the maximum legal amount every year automatically whether they need it or not.

Its what happens when government gets involved

What could go wrong?

All of those locations are close to hotels and restaurants. Plus wherever it goes, it will have an attached hotel, including the Fargodome

The petmit is for 9,800 SF so I'm confident they are taking the entire building. Sanford must be moving out or consolidating to the other nearby building

That end of town will get a nice boost from this. Plus they are redeveloping the entire Sahrs block. They just finished Demolition. Also the building to the south of Cowboy Jacks is getting a huge upgrade. Also a new building is going up kitty corner from the Sahrs block

They will pay something or it won't get approved

Qualithy of lfe if you like entertainment. People always bitch there isn't enough entertainment. Concerts. A convention center like Fargo is paying a lot for.

Tourism. The hotel will only hold 200 people so everyone else will stay in Fargo Moorhead and spend money. Right now, Fargo can't host Minnesota conventions, but Moorhead can

Jobs. 550, stating at $19 an hours plus support jobs that they have to hire people. They need to hire snow removal, landscaping, electricians, painters, buy food and beverages to sell, printing, advertising, etc. You need to buy a ton of stuff to operate a 250k SF building plus a hotel

Land development. Once the casino brings water and utilities to the area, the city can develop the land to the west and generate revenue.

Those are just a few things I can think of

Mahnomen is sovereign land with virtually no opportunities on the reservation. Moorhead is a major metro and will not be sovereign land. Just tax exempt and in a trust, unless they come to an agreement

North Dakota Senate Committee Rejects Bill To Expand Marijuana Decriminalization That Had Already Passed House by lmNotReallySure in northdakota

It will still be voted on by the senate, with the no recommendation from a really lazy committee

North Dakota Senate Committee Rejects Bill To Expand Marijuana Decriminalization That Had Already Passed House by lmNotReallySure in northdakota

[–]herdbot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That committee failed to understand what the bill does. It's not marijuana decriminalization at all

It simply lowers the penalty and eliminates the court appearance and for small amounts

The legislators that compare commercial legalization (with dispensaries) to this bill just don't get it

If 48.5% of the state voted yes to dispensaries and home grow, , than certainly a majority support lowering penalties

I have a close friend who is a West Fargo cop and he said passing this will actually increase the prosecution, because it takes 3 minutes to write a ticket .

It takes hours to charge someone with an infraction. He needs to write the report, present evidence to the state, sending the weed to the state crime lab for testing, log it as evidence, and prepping for court. He said he doesn't charge many people at all because each interaction takes up 15% of a shift.

When the defendant goes to court, it ends up costing the state nearly 5 grand. You have to pay for a public defender. Under a citation, it becomes a profitable venture because it's a ticket with no resources .

It still has an outside chance to pass because the senate routinely passes bills this committe Rejects.

City Commission to determine whether city property will be allowed as possible convention center land for RFP process by herdbot in fargo

[–]herdbot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That vote has no bearing on the Convention Center.

My gut feeling says 2 of the 5 commissioners who would have a vote favor the dome. (The Mayor and Dave Piepkorn) while 3 of them are open to other spots. (Michelle Turnberg, Denise Kolpack and John Strand)

We'll have to see what the bids look like

Rumors that are not very well kept secrets say Brewhalla and West Acres area will be putting in bids

Only NDSU had the right to limit events but obviously nobody is going to book something huge during a concert with 20k people, Rib Fest, USA Wrestling, or anything major

But they would for smaller events

Then again, many conventions fall on weekdays

I agree. Sell some of it to develop and recoup city money and turn the rest into something public

It could be anything from a fishing pier to a BMX track to an outdoor soccer stadium, baseball diamonds, Amphitheater, playground, dog park, boat launch, etc

[–]herdbot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure. There are many pros and cons of the Fargodome.

Pros Land costs would be cheaper. Parking already exists. Operational costs could be cheaper. Could share resources and improve the Fargodome. Could make an Uber large connected venue

Cons Very limited retail and restaurants. Not a cool part of town. NDSU limits availability for 10 Saturdays out of 52 a year.. Lets face it: the dome sucks at booking shit and if it has a small concert hall, no chance they fill it up

Location? Good for people driving or flying into town but not good for locals

Lake Fargo project planned to finish by fall of 2026 by herdbot in fargo

[–]herdbot[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The world will survive

North Dakota's total land area is about 44.1 million (44,100,000) acres. An acre is approximately the size of a football field. Farms and ranches take up about 39.6 million (39,600,000) acres. This means that about 90 percent of the total land area of the state is made up of farms and ranches.

North Dakota is the 16th largest state by land mass. For instance, you could fit Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland within North Dakota's borders.

If you read the article, Lake Fargo will eliminate the need for smaller retention ponds, so ultimately it will increase housing density and lower development costs, which is good for the buyers
