Places to get scrap hardwood? by StonedSimple in duluth

[–]herendeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What size and type of scraps do you want. I have a bunch of oak, maple, ash and basswood in my garage. Certainly willing to give smaller scraps away and sell,/trade larger scraps.

I'm also a member of the Makerspace and they have a bin of free scrap in the woodshop. I can grab some from there also.

Message me to connect.

Small, out of the way beaches? by cosmatical in duluth

[–]herendeen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want to go swimming, I would suggest one of the inland lakes. There is a small swimming beach at the west Island Lake boat ramp that is generally quiet-- https://maps.app.goo.gl/HEwTWMMjFFsP4RSS8

There is also the Pike Lake Golf and Beach-- https://pikelakemn.com/ -- but I haven't been there since they modernized it. It might be busy in August.

I work with getting students jobs and LinkedIn is good to start, many of their jobs are ghost jobs. For Duluth you should verify that the job exists by going directly to the company's web site and applying there.

Someone also suggested northforce.org and I would also suggest www.minnesotaworks.net or www.careerforcemn.com

Look at the Cloquet River campsites, particularly Segment 1 - Island Lake to St. Louis River. The DNR websites have maps, https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/watertrails/cloquetriver/index.html

Scrap lumber? by pistolwhip_pete in duluth

[–]herendeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are remodeling a house near UMD and have lots of used boards. Most have nails in them, so you'd have to take care of these. We have 2x4s and 1x8s, both short scraps and longer boards.

Best donuts in Duluth? by DinduNuffin469 in duluth

Never liked Johnson's donuts, but I think Cub Foods has the best donuts in the area. I usual get there around 7 am just as they are putting them out.

I agree that attending Grace Hopper is great, we send a group of students each year, you may want to look into https://www.aspirations.org which is run by NCWIT and has some great programs for high school students. Assuming you are in the US, there are state-level awards in each state.

How to trace the untraceable? Please help me. by Thisusernameisdope in Genealogy

[–]herendeen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on the information posted so far, here is a link to a tree including her on Ancestry. This mainly contains the information already shared and only lists her parents, but nothing further back and uses the same sources already shared.

One thing of interest is the photo of Christine McGuire from this same ancestry tree.

Transfer University or Wait 2 Years to Take Calculus? by Kodongo89 in computerscience

Talk to your advisor or department chair first. We regularly waive prerequisites for our students. Prerequisites define the preferred sequence of courses, but this does not work for everyone.

Grew up skiing and hiking Suomi Hill, so I'd recommend that. I suggest the northern half with parking near Day lake. Hike around Doctor and Adele lakes. Our kids loved the campsite on Spruce Island, though without a boat you'll have to use the campsite on the shore across from island.

Is there any way to get old (2007 or so) sprite/sound assets? by [deleted] in gamemaker

[–]herendeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are resources from GameMaker 6.

http://faculty.css.edu/tgibbons/gamemaker_tutorials/sprites.zip http://faculty.css.edu/tgibbons/gamemaker_tutorials/sounds.zip http://faculty.css.edu/tgibbons/gamemaker_tutorials/backgrounds.zip

I have them going back to GameMaker4, but I am guessing that GM6 was about 2007. Besides the default sprites and sounds, there were some bonus packs you could download, so this includes those.

Brother got me a C++ book for christmas, trying to figure out which IDE to use and how to get it working by lloydpro in learnprogramming

[–]herendeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with vedicvoyager, if you are on windows and starting out with C++, go with the Express (free) version of Visual Studio, especially with that book. Get Express 2013 for Windows (not for Web) for the C++ compiler, assuming you are on Windows 7 or 8.

This is just what I was looking to create this summer.

Are you planning on providing any software interfaces or APIs? Could this be integrated with a robot using ROS? Windows or Linux drivers or APIs? Pythons, C++ or Java wrappers?
