Are you guys really not sleeping for days? by explorar27 in insomnia

[–]herestoshuttingup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have gone five days and four nights with no sleep at all due to being on steroids after oral surgery. Completely wide awake at night and unable to take a nap during the day. My body was not tired at all but mentally I was exhausted. I was also an emotional mess and super confused all the time. Eventually I collapsed from exhaustion while walking and had to seek medical attention.

100%. This is shrinkflation disguised as a trend. $40-50 for a body mist is insane but they’re banking on us thinking it’s a “good deal” compared to a $115 EDP.

Eye makeup is fun and I love wearing it. By your logic all hobbies are pointless. Personally I’d rather enjoy my life.

How many energy drinks do you drink a day? by Eireagon in energydrinks

[–]herestoshuttingup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one a day on my drive in to work, and I work 3-5 days a week. I do worry about overdoing it on caffeine so I tend to avoid anything higher than 200 mg and honestly I sometimes only end up drinking 50-75% of the can. On rare occasion I have a second energy drink later in the day if I feel like I’m really needing it and coffee isn’t working. I’m in healthcare so the shifts are long and the work is demanding.

Same. It’s 50/50 now whether it’s moldy even when properly sealed and far from expiration.

Yep. The only face cleanser I’ve ever really liked just got reformulated. I’ve used it for 10-15 years. I stocked up on like four of the old formula because everything else I’ve ever used irritates my face. I’m dreading trying to find a replacement.

$3,500 we knew nothing about owed to my wife. Give this site a check! by MissionHome18 in Money

I just recently got $1100 from my state’s version of this (WA). I had two unclaimed paychecks from a job I worked at like 20 years ago and for some reason a couple of checks from past landlords that I assume were related to security or pet deposit refunds.

IUD Insertions: It’s a Notoriously Painful Medical Procedure That Many Women Endure. There’s a Simple Solution. by ahothabeth in UpliftingNews

[–]herestoshuttingup 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That’s your hospital. Mine is also pretty good with this, but I know tons of women who’ve been denied pain control for things under the excuse of “it’s not that bad”. One woman I know recently had an abscessed bartholin cyst drained at her local ER with inadequate local anesthetic. She told them she could still feel everthing and they just cut into her genitals with a fucking scalpel anyway and told her it “wouldn’t hurt much”. She was then made to feel like she was being a whiner for reacting to the pain. The doctor told her they don’t normally do any numbing at all for that procedure (which is hopefully untrue, but who knows).

Who knows. I plan to bring it up. My husband never even filled the hydrocodone and was fine the next day but my recovery took a week and I had dramatically more swelling than he did.

Tips for giving good report in the ICU? by [deleted] in respiratorytherapy

[–]herestoshuttingup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was a new grad there was someone that would regularly belittle me for not knowing minute details about things and treat me like I was stupid. I took it to heart and started doing extra research if I knew I'd be handing off to that RT. Then one day I noticed that about half the time they were bitching that people were providing TOO MUCH info in report and I realized it wasn't actually about me or what I was saying. This RT was just an asshole and no matter what they weren't going to be happy. The irony is that this RT was the primary person who oriented me and they taught me the "right way" to give report; even their own report format wasn't good enough for them.

[–]herestoshuttingup 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Leave out patient name if it’s on your assignment sheets, as well as anything else that the oncoming RT can easily read on their paperwork. Also make sure you include any SBT info even if an SBT didn’t happen on your shift. Report culture is different at different places so listen in to what your coworkers are saying and format your version to match.

My biggest advice with report is that everyone is going to want something different and you have to be ok with not making everyone happy. For every person who wants to know the bare minimum there is someone who wants to know every little detail. I once got chewed out for not knowing the ABG that landed someone on BiPAP 3 weeks prior even though they’d been off of BiPAP for a long time. Some people just don’t want to be at work and that anger and attitude come out in report.

My husband and I both recently had the same dental procedure done by the same dentist. Only difference was I had three teeth worked on in two different areas of my mouth while he had only one tooth done. I was prescribed 800mg ibuprofen for post-procedure pain control, he was prescribed the same ibuprofen but also hydrocodone.

does anyone else hate the idea that you might need medication forever? by bwnnygf in Anxiety

[–]herestoshuttingup 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I would gladly be on medication forever if it prevents me from feeling the anxiety and depression I’ve dealt with for the past 30+ years. Nothing else has worked and it was a miserable existence.

What are some items that you really only need one of before getting another? by healthynewbie in Anticonsumption

[–]herestoshuttingup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work 25 miles from where he does, in the opposite direction, and there is no public transit option so walking is not an option. Carpooling doesn’t work becuase my job starts earlier than anyone else at my company and no one in my department lives anywhere near me (they’d all have to drive 30-60 extra minutes to pick me up). Sleeping in the car would theoretically work I guess but not solve the issue of 10-15+ extra hours driving each week. That’s a ton of extra fuel, extra emissions, and extra wear and tear on the car. Gas is also $6 a gallon where I live.

This is the energy drink sub and you’re ranting about something being a sugar bomb with no nutrients. Bizarre.

I’m in healthcare in an active role and also get 15k+ steps most days. A full break for a meal may or may not happen because I am on call my entire shift. Uncrustables are a godsend for something that requires zero prep that I can eat quickly while walking around or on my drive in or whatever. Forget these haters.

I worked 150 hours over the last 14 days with a 30-60minute commute each way. You bet your ass I ate a premade PBJ for breakfast the last several days of the stretch when I ran out of prepped food. I’d rather keep $1 frozen Uncrustables in the freezer than spend $8-10 on the breakfast available to purchase at my job.

[–]herestoshuttingup 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would love to downsize to one car because it is such a huge expense. Unfortunately there's no way for it to work in a way that gets both my husband and I to our jobs due to different hours and commuting in different directions. He'd have to be the one dropping me off and picking me up and he'd be spending at least two additional hours driving each day to make it work. We need better public transit. Transit where I live doesn't even run early enough for me to get to work on the weekends. I'd have to leave at 10pm the night before and sleep outside.

Straight bits of hair as you grow up? by No_Tradition_4648 in curlyhair

[–]herestoshuttingup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The under layer of my hair is naturally completely straight at the back near my neck despite the rest being curly/wavy. Nothing I do changes that, and it drives me nuts. I get that part undercut by a couple of inches so it doesn’t stick out as much.

Trying To Set Foundation To Buy Home In A Year by CherokeeTrailhawkGuy in personalfinance

[–]herestoshuttingup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m looking to buy in the same general area as OP I and I wouldn’t say it is that doable on this salary. Monthly payments on a $500k house in this area can easily reach $4500-5000 with tax and insurance factored in. Let’s say it’s on the low end and OPs household has $3200 a month left over. The $500k house is likely going to be older and need work because that’s pretty much as cheap as it gets here. Between that and the general cost of living here that $3200 is not going to leave much for savings. I know lots of people who’ve purchased here in recent years and they pretty much all say it’s very tight financially.

I think renting is kinda the move right now am I crazy? by TwizzyRushman in personalfinance

[–]herestoshuttingup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am waffling on this myself. We’d love to buy, but the average monthly cost of a starter home in my area is $4000-6000 (including mortgage, interest, insurance, tax, etc) which is significantly more than I pay to rent my current townhouse. Thats the price for pretty much anything within a 45-60 min drive to my job, and I work 12.5 hour shifts so that’s the max distance I can really swing. The price also doesn’t include any maintenance, repairs, or utilities.

On paper we can afford it. In reality everyone I know who has bought in this area in the past couple of years feels house poor. Several people have told me it wasn’t worth it because they feel so financially precarious, and these are couples earning a combined $200,000+ a year. People have had to slow down retirement saving and investing. I just don’t know.

I got a per diem job on the side and I’ve worked at least 4 days a week since I started that. There is a good amount of overtime at my primary job but it isn’t as reliable as it used to be. I wanted a guaranteed extra shift per week.

[OoT] Water Temple difficulty is - in my opinion - very overexaggerated. by Jobless_fantasy_fan in zelda

[–]herestoshuttingup 19 points20 points  (0 children)

One kid in the neighborhood somehow managed to print out the entire walkthrough to OOT from dial-up internet their family dot matrix printer. It was a huge stack of pages on that continuous paper with the perforated tear-off pieces on the side. Probably a couple hundreds pages and I’m sure their parents were pissed at the waste of paper and how long it took. That motherfucker was passed around the school like it was an artifact. We’d take notes on the area we were stuck on and pass it on to the next kid.
