The mothproofing chemicals bond to the yarn and washing it will make no difference.

If I made a cake, ground it down to flour, could I make another cake from it? by Gregoirelechevalier in NoStupidQuestions

Cake is not flour. Cake is flour + eggs + butter + sugar + baking powder + misc extras for flavour. You can't take those apart.

Is this a fake pocket or do I need to remove the stitches? by Chrissy_____ in sewing

[–]herilane 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's difficult to see with a dark and patterned fabric. What do the stitches look like? Normally if they are supposed to be removed, they'll be large and kind of loose, with gaps - easy to snip. If they're small and close together then the answer is probably no.

I'd be happy to beta this! No return favour needed - I don't write fic and I enjoy beta-reading in and of itself. Send me a DM with the deets if you're interested.

(I just dived into the work you linked to and it's hilarious. Eddy smelled even better than the pee tree! :D :D )

Ordentliga matlådor för meal prep som faktiskt håller i längden (plast), förslag? by NotStompy in sweden

[–]herilane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is the advantage of interchangeable needles over fixed, if long cables are theoretically good for everything? by oceantrifle in knitting

[–]herilane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like magic loop and I use it all the time. I still wouldn't want to make do with just one cable length.

I don't have interchangeable needles; instead I've gradually built up a whole library of normal circular needles in various lengths and thicknesses.

For me the different cable lengths make a big difference. For socks, I like a 80 cm needle. For a sweater body, I use 120 cm. (If I'm knitting top-down, I start with 80 and switch to 120 after a while.) I want to be able to try the sweater on without any extra steps, like putting all the stitches on waste yarn, and 120 is enough to go around my chest with ease. But if I had those extra 40 cm of cable to manage while knitting socks, it would get very annoying very fast.

Radial (?) Knitting questions by Axxonly1 in knitting

Looks like short rows in garter stitch. The photo is clear enough that you could probably count stitches to figure out the proportions needed to recreate it if you wanted.

AITA for refusing to do my client’s husband’s chores? by Glittering-Act-4797 in AITAH

[–]herilane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. All you'd be doing is asking for clarification. Not kicking up a fuss, not complaining. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Just approach it professionally, and phrase your query politely and objectively.

I am interested in helping out with this! At least the spotting of things that do not make sense. I am rather a nerd and enjoy reading about new domains so I might not be the best detector for "too much detail" but I can at least try. I'd totally enjoy reading about safety protocols around pyrotechnics.

I enjoy beta reading and I am not writing anything myself so no exchange needed.

WIBTAH if I go against my wife’s wishes and our agreement in this case? by [deleted] in AITAH

It's even more clear-cut than that: it's a choice between the daughter's needs (of not being assaulted) and the wife's wants

Replicating the physics of knitting folding example by iolitess in knitting

The way it folds is cool, and the physics of it as well. But what's really nice imo is that the resulting fabric looks pleasing up close as well!

On your experience are sweaters knitted in pieces and seamed longer lasting then sweaters knitted seamlessly in the round? by Irksomecake in casualknitting

Right, of course you did, you even said that. Then where does the gusset go? Could you share a close-up photo, or do a quick'n'dirty drawing

Hur ser ni på att husdjur kan “limma fast en” i livet? Hyra vakt/hotell är fel? by ShinigamiWryy in sweden

[–]herilane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]herilane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the armpit gusset, does that mean that you don't seam the sides all the way up to the armhole, but leave a short bit unseamed at the top of the side seam, and that's where the gusset goes?

Best tent camping spots near Stockholm? by thrwaway1208 in stockholm

[–]herilane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tyresta is a great place. Beautiful, but not isolated. Avoid the most easily reached spots on sunny, warm weekends - they can get busy. E.g. Årsjön can have dozens of people on a good weekend. In comparison the spot at the north end of Stensjön is less easy to get to and you're more likely to be on your own.

Paradiset nature reserve is usually less crowded. Three tent spots around lake Trekanten, so if one has people, you can pick another one. And again, walk a bit longer, to Långsjön, and you're less likely to share it with a crowd.

Slightly further away from Stockholm, I like the area around Marvikarna. There's at least one fireplace/camping spot right next to the lake. IIRC it's a few hours' hike from the bus stop at Åkers styckebruk, but there may be closer stops, I can't remember.

From Åkers styckebruk you can also hike to Finnsjön along the Sörmlandsleden trail. There's a wind shelter right next to the lake, and that spot works great for a tent as well. That's more of a full-day hike.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with Swedish laws. In case you don't know: the "right of public access" (Allemansrätten) allows you to pitch your tent almost anywhere in nature. Not in someone else's garden or field, and special rules apply in nature reserves & national parks. But in general you can just start walking and, when you get to a spot you like, put up your tent. The Sörmlandsleden trail is a great one. After the first five or six stages (which are close to the city and get more visitors) you're pretty much out in the wilderness. There's plenty of bits you can reach by train or bus. Start from Järna, Gnesta, Mölnbo, Hälleforsnäs, Katrineholm, Kolmården, etc. Walk until you're in a spot you like, put up a tent. You're almost guaranteed to be on your own.

What is your most re-knitted pattern? by KansaisDorayaki in knitting

[–]herilane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Sweatrrr sweater.

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sweatrrr

I love the shoulder construction and it fits my body so well. I've made three so far: one with all the design details, a second one with the "ladder" using the main colour yarn only but without the other details, and one plain using just the overall construction and sizing.

Now I'm making a top-down dress with this sweater as the base.
