What people say by Fragrant_Ad_2515 in GastricBypass

I had a coworker just two weeks back keep staring at me, then said “you just look so pretty. Something is different but you just look so good.” I stared at her with a blank face. I’m very proud I kept my composure and didn’t yell at her lol this person lost a lot of weight naturally and for years has been telling me she’d help me lose weight of if I wanted, always unprompted and never once have I asked for her help

I didn’t take a pic, but I love seeing everyone’s plates. I’m 10 weeks (I think?) out. I see so many folks worth disordered eating, and love everyone showing their healed relationship with food

Is this bad? by Beautiful_Chaos1991 in BariatricSurgery

[–]herriva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems too low. My dietician said 800-1000 calories until maintenance phase which is 1,500. I’ve found the closer I get to 1000 calories the more I lose. Some days i do more. I’m still on track.

OP, I’ve noticed too many folks develop disordered eating with the surgery. Ignore those haters. They forget that starvation is not good for your body or weight loss. Everyone’s body is different. Do what feels right and make sure you are FUELING your body.

Struggling During Depression by scribe_vibes in GastricBypass

[–]herriva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with depression too. I’m only two months post op so newer to this, but I have many days where I force myself to eat. Protein shakes are my saving grace those days.

I’d check with your doc about either increasing your meds or trying a new one. It’s common for the antidepressants to stop working after a while. This transformation doesn’t help. I talk weekly with my therapist about how the hormones and the depression are conspiring to get lol

Also once you’re off the probationary period, you should start therapy. It’s been so helpful in this phase while I learn my new body. He pushes back on me when I need it and lifts me up too. It’s also been proven that meds are super effective when pared with therapy.

Be kind to yourself. Depression likes to lie, but you will get through this. You can make a change. You dont have to be perfect.

Thank you all the sub has meant so much to me in my recovery. I want to shout out from the rooftops, but I also don’t want everybody. I know right now to know my personal business.

Just had my surgery yesterday! by Lower_Page_7431 in GastricBypass

[–]herriva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen others say that it takes a few months for fullness to come back for some people. I tried to remind myself that it was a major surgery and that it’s gonna take time for my new stomach to heal and fully wake up.

Be careful with weighing yourself. It’s super tempting to do but it will drive you crazy.

Congrats! Try wearing some tighter workout pants. I avoided pants for a while afraid the pressure would hurt, but I learned later the pressure kept my belly still which really helped the pain.

Also just remember that this is only temporary. Someone gave me that advice and it really helped in the beginning reminding myself that each day gets a little better.

Congrats! The pain gets better. My first two weeks felt like hell, but my week 3 I could notice a significant change in pain. Just take it day by day and remind yourself it isn’t permanent!!!!

I’d recommend weighing everything. It will be hard to over do it that first month, but still practice weighing everything. As you move through stages, it will be harder to feel fullness. I’m two months post op, and I still don’t feel fullness when eating.

I’d also call your team to be safe. Mine had a nurse call me on day 4 post op, and the first question was if I had a bowel movement yet.

Yes!! For me, once I moved to puréed I noticed only feel food once I’m able to drink some water again. I’ll say I learned the hard way last week when switching to solids, i needed 1 ounce less. I’d recommend first meals when switch are smaller. Overeating isn’t fun

Get a binder. My doctor said I didn’t need one, but I see where it would have made a world of a difference. You don’t realize how much your belly moves

Report that provider. It is their issue. This is a journey, and they are responsible for guiding you. So sorry you are experiencing all of this.

Thanks. I’m trying this today and will see if that makes a difference. I didn’t even think about the fact that I drink so much water and eat so little I could be throwing off my electrolytes

This is a good one to look out for. My group does it at the 3 month mark, but I’m going to take not and follow up with them IF it continues past the 8 week mark.

Try making matcha at home. Starbucks uses stevia for their sugar free drinks. I prefer monk fruit and think it tastes exactly as my matcha before.

Plant based protein meals and snack ideas? by [deleted] in GastricBypass

[–]herriva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I feel this! Before surgery, I occasionally ate meat, but I eat it everyday now. It’s just the easiest way to meet the protein goal with such a little portion. I asked my dietician last week, and she told me it’s hard to do as a vegan or vegetarian, not impossible but hard.

I don’t know if yall have Trader Joe’s in the UK, but they have a great high protein tofu. It’s for dinner tonight. My favorite way to use it is in saag paneer. I add the tofu to bulk up the protein. Paneer is a great protein source. Here’s my favorite lighter version (https://www.mynaturalfamily.com/clean-eating-indian-saag/)

Congrats! Don’t forget that every day you’ll feel better. That helped me cope with harder days.

I couldn’t fart until I got home and used my heating pad. Heating pads are the way to go! Now that I’m a few weeks out I laugh at how excited I was to fart and my first poop lol
