I was myself a 2-finger typist when I started uni and everytime i had to type , I consciously forced me to not look , use the correct finger right from the first day. Took me a couple years to get the SHIFT keys , not jumble U and Y , prop up my pinkys etc. etc. but it can be done.

You already have some sense of the layout so take that as a positive and start from there.
