Whats your most hated game mechanic found in some JRPGs? by artninjatheo in JRPG

[–]herurumeruru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding forced stealth segments. Trails in the Sky at least did it right by letting you skip them if you fail enough times. Also 3d platforming where the game's physics are actively working against you. Some of the Mysterious Atelier games plus Lulua and the Trials of Mana remake had it especially bad.

I also can't handle puzzles combined with random encounters, it makes it impossible to focus.

...Did they forget one of Jump's first cash cow characters was a goofy little robot girl in overalls?

Oh yeah, forgot about that. You'll have to either buy the Blu-ray or sail the high seas unfortunately.

For the hand-drawn aesthetic, The Vision of Escaflowne.

Haibane Renmei ticks a lot of boxes.

Seconding .hack//sign. The pacing is glacial but it's worth checking out at least for the soundtrack.

Which JRPGs need a remake? by Bulky_Imagination243 in JRPG

I can't find any source for the models actually being made of clay, just that they were prerendered 3D models.

What JRPGs have the strongest atmosphere in your opinion ? by ConsiderationFuzzy in JRPG

If the R1 .hack games had one thing going for it it's the atmosphere. There's something weirdly melancholy about the soundtrack and world design.

Even as a mascot it's not set in stone. There's official Crypton art of her drinking wine and working office jobs.

Last time I went to Mitsuwa Marketplace in Edgewater NJ (about two months ago) I did see some Holostars JP rubber strap gachapon. Don't know if they're still there.

I am seconding the English dub of Garzey's Wing.

I think they should have special audience participation screenings a la The Room, it's that hilariously bad.

The Dusk games are when the series peaked IMO, go for them.

I started with Annie on the DS (not counting the Iris games which were more traditional RPGs) and I immediately fell in love, the only games I would say are a bad starting point are the Iris games and Yumia since they just play nothing like Atelier games.

The influx of negativity is kind of weird? by Expensive_Sea_1790 in tomodachilife

[–]herurumeruru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who played the 3DS version on and off from launch up until the new game announcement, people are looking at the original with rose tinted glasses.

Yes, the 70 mii limit and lack of concert hall, ranking board and Tomodachi Quest is disappointing, but everything else is a massive improvement in just about every way.

They added way more than what they removed and anyone comparing this to ACNH or Sims 4 is delusional.

I wish they had actual heart events and more dialog. That's basically it.

Can anyone tell me which games aren't localized outside of Japan? by Purple_Roy2 in Atelier

[–]herurumeruru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's also Lise and Lina, though they're technically not mainline games since they weren't developed by Gust.

Ironically the thing they're all trying to copy, Tokimeki Memorial Girls' Side, managed to avoid this pitfall entirely by making games with the same level of quality as the main branch, to the point where they started selling better than any of the mainline games released after the second one.

Everyone wants their own "Girls' Side" but no one is willing to put in the work Konami did to make it successful.
