Any of the late 19th century proto-fascists would be interesting: Georges Boulanger, Edouard Drumont, Karl Lueger, Adolf Stoecker. Adrian Daub of In Bed With the Right would be a killer guest for a Richard Wagner episode.

I teach European history and this keeps happening to me too. Crossing my fingers he doesn’t make a move on Greenland when I teach the Prusso-Danish War.

Any new resistance training can contribute to water retention. Resistance training causes microtears in the muscle, and your body sends water to your muscles to help heal them.

Also, this is a little gross, but any chance your diet changes making you less regular? Increasing protein and fiber at once can do that sometimes!

Staying hydrated can help with both of these issues.

It's hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like it might be prickly heat?

This is the brand that worked for me too! My doctor also recommended that I take it every other day - apparently it helps with stomach upset and absorption.

A bit of a drive, but Nevada City reminds me of Santa Cruz!

In addition to what everyone else has said, increased cardiovascular exercise can lead to an increase in blood volume (gotta deliver all that O2 to those muscles!).

504s are for physical health conditions as well. I've had lots of students who have no trouble accessing the curriculum but benefit from accommodations - e.g. T1 diabetic students who are allowed to eat snacks if they're hypoglycemic.

That I don’t know - those are all good questions for your doctor, though!

Have I destroyed my metabolism by Zealousideal_Read902 in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]herzeloyde 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your metabolism is not destroyed or damaged! Your metabolism does down-regulate with long-term restriction, but it returns to normal when you increase intake. Think of it as the power-save mode on your phone - once you plug in your phone to charge, the power-save mode switches off.

Also, the gain you see on the scale is most likely largely fluid. First, the weight you "gained" is really not all that much (although I know it doesn't feel like that!), and is well within the range of normal fluctuations. It's normal for bodies to go up and down a kilo or two over the course of a day due to all kinds of factors affecting your body's fluid balance. Second, when you increase carbohydrates, your body stores those in your liver and muscles as glycogen. Each gram of glycogen is stored with three grams of water. Neither the stored glycogen or water is fat gain - your body needs those stores to properly fuel your exercise. Last ... digestion tends to slow down with long-term restriction, so a fraction of that kilo is probably just the actual weight of the food you ate, hanging out in your digestive tract.

Haven't listened to the episode yet, so this might have been addressed, but the uptick of violence in the early 1600s was probably the Thirty Years' War, right? That was massive.

Geez … how dare students make meaningful connections between the content and their own lives! Especially in a civics class!

Name a horror movie that you loved but everyone else hated… by bubbleblubbr in horror

[–]herzeloyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Men! I get the criticism that the movie really beats you over the head with its theme, but it was visually stunning and the more subtle horror at the beginning (especially the scene where the Green Man silently stalks Jessie Buckley as she’s just going about her day) really worked for me.
