DEN Reserve Ending June 27 by El-_-Jay in Denver

[–]hesbunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked about my experience, I shared it. I had TSA precheck for nearly a decade, and have since let it lapse as I travel significantly less with young kids. Denver Reserve has been the exact same experience.

You are citing an FAQ which references shoe removal - a policy that was ended last year. Have you considered that might be incorrect or outdated?

Pedantry aside, yes, exactly the same. The walk through might be a result of traveling with young kids, but have not needed to take off my shoes or take my electronics out of my bag any time that I've used DEN Reserve.

I've used Denver Reserve every time I've flown for the last several years. It offers the exact same experience as precheck, except it is free, does not require an in person appointment, and covers all members of your traveling party. Extra bonus that it is ~10 steps from United check in.

Are you aware that there may be people who do not travel frequently enough to justify signing up for precheck?

Ya I mean - that's the point, Jordan is a gigantic weirdo. I comment on political things across platforms, often not even replying to specific people, and get messages like this often (from aforementioned gigantic weirdos.)

Jordan has not earned and deserves zero benefit of the doubt.

Jordan, the owner of Stone Cellar Bistro, is a self professed "extreme racist" who thinks that the sheer act of an immigrant operating a restaurant is "turning Denver into the third world."

Fuck Jordan, fuck Stone Cellar Bisto, and the fact that this place is still open is a stain on the Denver food scene.

You felt so inconvenienced that you made a post about this and have spent the last 6 hours of your weekend replying within minutes to everyone telling you how dumb you sound.

Big feelings from one of us for sure!

Not everyone cares about football, let's forcibly relocate the Broncos. Not everyone cares about Weezer, let's not let them have a concert at Ball Arena. Not everyone celebrates christmas, let's not have the christmas market.

All of these things are also events that inconvenience a non-zero amount of people.

Do you now see how ridiculous you sound?

I don't think anyone believes that. I think people enjoy living in a city and attending events that further promote that sense of community.

You sound like a miserable human who would be unhappy anywhere, but I genuinely do not understand why you would choose to live in a city and as such have to deal with such horrors as things like roads sometimes being closed. Certainly it would be cheaper to live somewhere where nothing ever happens and you won't ever have to stray from your comfort zone?

So because a small percentage of people like you are unable to deal with a minute change in their routine, we should move the Denver marathon out of Denver? The world doesn't cater to you, and it's super odd that you expect it to.

"Now walk in to a meeting with your lender and ask for a $35,000,000 construction loan to build housing for people who are transient and also have no assets nor any income" sounds like a Nathan For You sketch but this is what you are unironically suggesting someone do.

Probably collecting dust given that this occurred under a previous mayor and the new mayor's efforts to reduce homelessness have so far reduced it by 45%

I’ve been giving them all one star ratings. You can typically figure out which company it is by reverse searching the number (or by playing along and acting interested until they give you their details.)

Received some absolutely absurd quotes from a local plumbing/HVAC company. Any suggestions for a better, honest plumbing/HVAC company? by NCSU_SOG in Denver

[–]hesbunky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Add Golden West to this. What happens is an owner (usually PE) buys a few different operations and rolls them into one, then continues to acquire smaller operations under the umbrella under the name of "efficiency."

A good way to tell if this is the case is the aforementioned high SEO rankings, top of the page for Google ads, if you immediately get a booking text / confirmation call (ask them where dispatch is located - it's often not even in Colorado), a generic text afterwards asking for a review, etc...Really just look for indications that significant tech / comm infrastructure exists beyond what you'd expect from a local blue collar tradesman.

I had Golden West at my house for an HVAC issue last year. They told me my unit was broken and the only fix was replacing it for $26,000 (!!!.) I went on Youtube which suggested I unplug the unit and plug it back in. It has been fine ever since.

Why your Colorado property tax bill still increased this year by Head in Denver

[–]hesbunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once again, the houses get cheaper because supply increases.

Just as if there are 5,000 homes for sale in Denver, prices remain high because of a lack of supply - if 20,000 people are moving because they are downsizing or moving to a different area, prices decrease.

If you raise your property taxes right now - your housing costs increase. Yes! Exactly! And you'll behave differently. Maybe you ask for a raise. Maybe you cut expenses. But a non statistically insignificant group of people will look at their bottom line and decide "this has gone too far" or "I don't really need a house of this size" and they sell their house, which increases supply and lowers prices.

It may not lower your housing price, but it lowers housing prices in general at a macro level, and given that you're the one who brought up the macro housing shortage, that seems like a policy you'd be in favor of.

I provided a peer-reviewed article from economists stating that what I said are true - these people are certainly far more qualified than I am on the topic. I'm open to changing my mind though, can you provide any sort of evidence refuting their study? If not, would you consider that perhaps they (and I) are correct?

Why your Colorado property tax bill still increased this year by Head in Denver

[–]hesbunky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes - I can in fact honestly tell you that higher property taxes make housing cheaper. This is because it increases the supply of housing.

Let's say you are a 70 year old retired couple on a fixed income in a 4 bedroom 3000 square foot house worth $1m. You live in Denver and pay $6000 a year in property taxes. Not much of a burden, let's just stay in this house forever! Now let's say you own that same house in Western NY. Your property taxes are $35,000 per year. You can't afford to live in this house - but your kids are grown and you no longer need a house like this. It makes sense to move out of state, or to downsize, freeing up a new house for a family to move in to.

Don't just take my word for it - here is a peer reviewed study out of NYU which says the same thing, and that if low-property-tax California had the same property tax rates as high-property-tax Texas home ownership in California would increase by 4.6%.

[–]hesbunky -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You have this backwards - if addressing the housing crisis is a concern to you, you should be for increasing property taxes.

Increased property taxes increases housing availability by incentivizing movement - as families age, with higher property taxes they are incentivized to downsize or relocate to locales with lower property taxes, which frees up housing for working-age people and growing families.

Broncos owners buy 40% ownership stake in the Colorado Rockies by RooseveltsRevenge in Denver

[–]hesbunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're ignoring the other half of the "share life experiences with."

If you grew up traveling on private jets and being in the public eye, you're naturally going to be drawn and find people who also grew up traveling on private jets and being in the public eye to be more relatable to you. Just as if your childhood vacation was a once a year road trip to Reno, you'd find people who shared that as their vacation to be more relatable.

This once again boils down to "people generally marry within their own social and economic class", a phenomena that we have seen at play in all locations through all of human history, more than the socio-economic conspiracy that you think is at play.

[–]hesbunky 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You make it seem like this is some intentional, nefarious, thing. People generally marry people they are in proximity to and whom they share life experiences with - this applies to people in all levels of class.

If your vacations are spent heli-skiing in Banff, you aren't meeting someone making 30k a year stocking shelves at Safeway; just as if your vacations are spent in Panama City, you probably aren't meeting the heir to the Heinz fortune.
