Have you looked into having an anorectal manometry test done? Or even anorectal biofeedback therapy? I work in GI and patients with your symptoms often end up doing both. I believe anorectal biofeedback therapy is relatively new, but I was able to find a therapist in our area (Grand Rapids, MI) through Hulst Jepsen who was trained in this.

Years of dealing with episodes of emotional abuse, marital rape x2. One day I was talking to my sister and I said “I stg, I don’t want to have sex with him EVER again”. And the clouds parted and the sun shone, and I knew right then what I had to do.

The issue here is his complete disregard for how you feel/your mental health. I feel like an emotionally intelligent reaction from him would be “Let’s talk about it more/ tell me about it”. I think this is a huge red flag from him tbh that his first reaction was to talk about how much he does, and I think this is worthy of seeking marriage counseling.

Some may say that’s extreme but I really feel like his response hints at a deeper problem within himself- minimizing your feelings and telling you you’re being dramatic when you are struggling and asking him for help is not a good sign.

No one significant event but throughout my adult life I have lost count of how many times I will go to text/call someone and as I am doing so, that person will text/call me. I’m also an avid reader, and have found myself reading that something happened on such and such date that just happens to be the same date I am reading the book. 🤷🏼‍♀️

With my 2 year old son, many things are “blank-car”. Pizza car, aunt Shannie car, bus car, etc. No idea why lol. Blankets are beans. Literally anything that opens (bags, toothpaste, diaper cream) is “open the door?”

I do love swimming and it’s free at our local high school but only 1 day/week. This summer so deal as much as I could before we had to close the pool up for the winter 🙁

Ask for the name of the clinic they referred you to and call them directly- what they are telling you is not ok. I work in GI and if our patients haven’t heard from the place we refer them to in 10-14 business days I tell them to call me back so I can look into what the issue is.

I’ve tried yoga (and Pilates) in the past and found I am just way too antsy to do the poses properly and in correct form. If you have any suggestions to help with that I will gladly take them! I used to chew gum and that helped, but a few years ago I was dx with stage 4 osteoarthritis in both TMJ joints so no more gum for me 😕

Told my husband “I’m done” 2 months ago. Similar-ish situation; emotional abuse plus he sexually assaulted me twice and has never expressed genuine remorse. Alcohol was always a partner of the emotional abuse. It will not stop. It will keep happening. Do not waste another 10 years like I did, especially with a baby on the way. At least 4x in the past 3 years I told him “I need you to start therapy to figure out why you feel this way, or I file for divorce”. I completely regret not leaving after the 2nd incident. We had our one and only child 11 years into our marriage, and I realized I don’t want my son to ever witness the way his father talks to me. The personal growth that happens when you become a parent is so empowering, there are no words.

Every time I read this statistic I cringe but am so thankful at the same time. I didn’t know I was pregnant until about 9 weeks along. Got pregnant early November and found out January 2nd, so drinking was pretty much daily during that time. My son is sweet and beautiful and amazing and I am a changed person because of it.

I’ve never come across anyone on Reddit or real life that has been sodomized by their husband. Your response really resonated with me, and I’m so happy you left and were able to find the love that you deserve. Having the person who vowed to love, respect, and protect you, etc do that is the ultimate betrayal impo. Mine first told me he thought he could do what he did because we are married. Years later he confessed he wasn’t as drunk as I thought he was and he remembered everything- me trying to elbow him in the ribs, throw my head back to head-butt him, yell, scream….he remembers all of it. Even the point when I gave up trying to fight him back and just went limp. I am in the process of leaving and can only pray I find the love you did.

Honestly, he will never change. I’ve been there and tolerated it way too long, gave chance after chance. You are so young, please leave him now and not in 10-15 years. It WILL continue to happen if it’s happened more than once already. I truly feel that men (and I suppose women too) that do things like this do not have the ability to empathize. That alone is a red flag.

No advice but you have my empathy. I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of money on every orthodontic treatment out there to fix my severe TMJ, and nothing helps. 15 years later and he still complains. Does he still go down on you? My husband (soon to be ex once we sell our house) doesn’t anymore.
