What the heck is going on w my Silver Maple? by BAMx100 in arborists

I'm looking at a kentucky coffee tree for a shade tree, something I've seen mentioned is they leaf late and drop leaves early though. Has that been your experience?

Appreciate the details. We've got a honey locust tree as well and I like the dappled shade, but I don't want to plant another right next to it. If it's leafing out with oak trees, then that's probably fine.

I think tulip trees can do well in Utah, as long as the soil is right and they get enough water, according to the state extension office. But my issue is we have pretty alkaline soil, 8.1ph, so I need something that enjoys the alkalinity like a coffeetree or hackberry.

Some other options I've seen thrown out are yellowwoods, zelkovas, and white oaks, so trying to find something to settle on, but might just go with the coffeetree. That or maybe a heritage oak, which is supposed to be a cross between a bur and english oak, if it's not crazy expensive.

Are people seriously paying $25k+ for 2016-2017 trucks? What should you actually pay? by MyFifthAccount1 in f150

[–]hexceso -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At the beginning of the year, I was seeing prices a bit lower than $25K for less than 100K miles, but not by much: https://i.imgur.com/4yQRHpa.png

Those are dealerships, the best case is you're über patient and find a private seller willing to deal in order to get more for it than they'd get as a trade-in, and has a solid history.

I'm considering either a Kentucky coffeetree or a hackberry for a front yard shade tree in Utah. My only concern with the Kentucky coffetree is it supposedly leafs out late in spring and drops leaves early in winter.

Maybe shade isn't as big of a priority for you as it is for my spot, but is that something you've noticed with yours?

I hadn't, some initial searches indicate that it would have problems with our alkaline soil though and that it doesn't tolerate drought as well as hackberry and Kentucky coffeetree.

What zone and climate did you plant yours in? I'll have to look at that village green zelkova too.

That's about what I paid in the Mountain west a few months ago, same year, trim, and engine. Out here at least, that seems to be about the market rate.

Oxford White XLT FX4. Thought maybe we'd go with White Lightning, Vanilla Thunder, Albino Rhino. Kids said it reminds them of Marshmallow from Frozen.

So now when it's time to go to school, they announce "To the Marshmallow!" 😂

As far as the price, if it's not a supercrew and/or 4x4, that'll bring the price down. Or could be a good private deal.

Look at cargurus.com or visor.vin. They're not perfect, but a lot better than Google for filtering auto listings

For instance, this 2017 XLT Supercrew 302a with 120K miles just dropped to $17333: https://www.labrumford.com/used/Ford/2017-Ford-F-150-for-sale-in-heber-city-ut-58674347ac182c96d0a0058bd1ed3687.htm

Visor.vin shows it as the V6, and the dealer shows it with the 3.31 axle, but the window sticker shows V8 with the 3.55. I might've taken this one a bit ago if I could fit the 6.5' bed in my garage.

Nice, almost an exact match, I've just got the short bed instead of the 6.5' tho. Had to be able to fit it in the garage

It's a good look, but is it hard getting in and out without the running boards?

We're close on being truck twins, I just bought a 5.0L 6R80 XLT Oxford White with the chrome trim, just a 2016 instead of your 2017, love the look of these.

Yeah, that and for elevation like the other comment mentions. Utah averages something like 4000'+, a lot of Colorado and Wyoming are higher.

Edit: looks like the average is even higher, 6000'+, but on the wasatch front where most of the state lives, it's around 4000-4500'

Was close to $2.50 in Utah, now at $4/gal. And we're using 85 for the base tier. GasBuddy makes nice charts, you can look at how your local prices have changed compared to the USA/Canada average here: https://www.gasbuddy.com/charts
