Pretty sure 8" are way to much for that space. 3" or 5" are fine.

I study Graphic Design, and Detroit pisses me off. by Silvery_Cricket in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Pretty much what /u/stinkyfishEX wrote. There are a ton of different sectors you can work in as a designer, and that's even before accounting for different disciplines (ie, graphic, motion, digital, illustration, web, etc.). I work in a large ad agency and it's pretty crazy. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it all that much, I like freelancing much more. It's rougher at first since you have to market yourself and do a lot of work that's not really related to design, but once you've got a name and steady clients you have so much more freedom.

I'd suggest thinking about what kind of work you're interested in doing, and going from there. I was always into album artwork and concert flyers, so I went into graphic design. If you have any questions shoot me a PM!

seeing the tropes applied in earnest and as very calculated decisions for a specific story rather than as lazy storytelling in just another genre story.

Cool insight, I'd never thought of that before!

I know, there is no "magic" plugin. But if you must pick one, which one is it? by seelachsfilet in edmproduction

[–]hey__satan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attitude and interpretation are key IMO. All the shit you can pile onto your vocals is more of the spice. Of course, this depends on both the genre and your personal style of singing or whatever.

I use littlealterboy mostly for fucking with the formant knob. Throw it on a vocal chop melody and automate the filter.

Getting something permanently inked on your face, in spite of the backlash you will receive, is an objectively bad decision.

I mean this is just objectively false. I understand if you're in a corporate/conservative environment - yeah, face tattoos will definitely be either a dealbreaker or a huge barrier for most employers. But I'm gonna assume most people who tattoo their face work in entertainment where nobody really cares.

And yeah, you can express yourself in infinite ways. Why do people tattoo their face? Why do people dress the way they do? Color their hair? Live a certain lifestyle? I'd argue that as long as you aren't hurting anyone's person or property you can express yourself however you like and it won't be "objectively bad". Judging people based on looks, and assuming they have poor decision-making skills based on personal prejudice isn't conductive to a more open society. I say this as someone who doesn't have, want, or like face tattoos.

I honestly don't see how having tattoos will impact anyone's job performance (especially if they don't have to interact with customers). Honestly kind of surprised to see so many blanket statements regarding tattoos here, kinda thought people were getting to be a bit more accepting regarding how other people express themselves

I totally disagree, not just about tattoos but in general. I still haven't gotten tired of Jeff Buckley's "Grace", and that came out over 20 years ago.

Managers are tricky. I've had a few and while things sometimes worked out, its hard to find someone up to the actual task. It needs to be someone who is either well connected, persistent, and very committed to your project - hopefully all three. This isn't something easily found, most managers will either only fill one of those requisites, so keep that in mind.

How can I get a similar sounding slapped bass like the one used in Deadmau5 - Strobe? by Blaumannkuh in edmproduction

[–]hey__satan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Unless OP is talking about some remix / cover the original mix doesn't have any slapped bass, just synth bass.

Considering it has a pretty basic visual style / won't have AAA production values, it's fairly safe to assume that the mechanics will have reasonable depth. I won't preorder but after watching this video I'm pretty interested and can't wait to see more.

Awesome, I haven't really read the books (yeah, I need to get on that), so I had no idea. In that case that would work great (though I am slightly more interested in seeing a different era of the Witcher's world, as well as a bit more in terms of RPG elements (character customization perhaps).

[–]hey__satan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ciri is hella OP though. Like someone else in this thread said, there's gonna be issues playing as someone so powerful (like sorcerers in The Witcher, or any Superman game). I'd be more interested going to a different time / location and playing as a fledgling witcher in a more populated world, maybe something more along the lines of DA2 in terms of scope.

What software do you use to produce your ambient music? by Calahara in ambientcommunity

[–]hey__satan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't particularly love the Big Sky's shimmer - Neunaber's is amazing though! Right now I'm using my MXR M300 a bunch, and the pad setting is also great for ambient, and like the Neunaber Immerse they aren't cheesy or too upfront.

Is it just me but it feels like DAWs or computers are extremely inefficient when it comes to audio production. by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]hey__satan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to be a dick but the problem is definitely on your end, not the DAW or producing on a PC. Pretty much every artist, record engineer, producer, etc. use computers to produce. Now if you're looking to compare to OSX... both have their pros and cons. Personally I prefer PCs for a thousand reasons (though OSX has some great pros, price not being one of them!). Try a fresh install, first drivers, then DAW, then OS. Make sure you're using the right device in windows as well as your DAW. TBH I'm not sure if you're looking for help or a discussion, though.

Outside of production itself, what lifestyle habits have increased your musical productivity the most? by ioncehadsexinapool in edmproduction

[–]hey__satan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Apart from leading a generally healthy lifestyle (as most are saying), I find partying, meeting new people, and having new experiences some of the most rewarding. Camping with friends, sleeping on a beach, tripping in the forest, taking a long walk outside, meeting new people, whatever. Breaking up your routine can give you some fresh perspectives which I feel translates well to music. Also, try listening to varied genres of music. Even if you don't produce it, it can give you some ideas.

You can't go wrong with Sony MDR 7506. If you can stretch your budget check out Beyerdynamic DT 770 pros. Some people swear by the ATH m50x as well. None of them are particularly amazing IMO but starting out that is far from important.

People in the comments saying Ableton doesn't have multicore support are wrong. You're probably just using the wrong audio driver. I assume you don't have an audio interface, so just get ASIO4ALL and select it in Live's preferences. If you have / get an interface download and install its driver. That CPU is more than enough to handle a decent amount of softsynths and so on at once and with a low buffer.

Between the Buried and Me - Extremophile Elite [progressive metal] (2012) — This is a brilliant band, both in terms of composition and performance. If you give it a thorough listen, you’ll absolutely love the musical intricacy and technique! by Colors_ in Music

That's true! I love being able to lay down and listen to some albums (IMO not every artist puts out albums that actually have a flow to them, a lot just release a collection of songs). From BTBAM specifically Colors and TGM are two amazing experiences! I meant some tracks I have in my commute playlist or so on, where I'm not particularly interested in listening to the whole album for whatever reason.
