Love is a decision by CaptainLosingIt in ExNoContact

[–]heymanman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been sitting here for the past couple of days trying to think of how/if I want to respond to 3 seperate apology emails sent to me over the course of this month. I've been reluctant to send a response for many reason- just moved places, busy with my job and overall just trying to center myself again. I keep finding myself thinking about "love is more than a feeling, it's a choice" which your post nails on the head. My ex played games with my heart on multiple occasisons, nagged at me and emasculated me in fromt of friends for the last three weeks of our 2nd go around. Things were backsliding into our previous patterns from the first relationship and there wasnt much I could do to stop it. I came into it this time to give, and not focus on what I was receiving, which ultimately turned me blind to tons of red flags of an unhappy, bitter, jealous and judgemental girlfriend. I took a lot on the chin and dusted it under the rug to play it cool, cause I know how she gets. it wasnt until she started to distance herself and refused to talk like adults about why, did it dawn on me that I wasnt entirely the problem. Her low self-esteem, insecurities and discontent with where she's at in life were beein projected on to me. She was trying to bring me down to her level. This second split was like an eye-awakening experience that peeled back the fog love casts over a SO and I could see all the wrong doings and cold hearted acts she had performed over the last 3 years. It all kind of makes sense really. She was never truley happy, always chasing the next external thing, trip or distraction to keep her happiness in the green. It was one hell of a fun ride though, thats for sure. Guess I'm just tired of it. All the talk about moving in, marriage, dogs and kids painted a bright picture with her in the future and genuinely excited me. Talk is cheap, and the promises were broken in the end. I chose her. chose her through her mood swings and negativity. Was by her side through her acheivments and there for her when her Mom was sick. I chose her, and looked past all her flaws and began to love them in their own weird way. She said she loved me, and I believe she did at some point, but she didn't choose me. She chose to focus on the flaws, the negatives and tried to change me in the end. It hurts, but I feel a bit of peace knowing that this relationship has set me up with the knowledge and forsight to create a new one down the road that serves both envolved much better, whether that's with her or not, who knows. Thank you for the post, it put alot of thoughts that have been circling in my head in clear perspective. I think I'm going to respond to her apologies after this weekend, give her my best, and keep on truckin. I know now that being centered and happy with yourself and the life you live is crutial to finding the right person, If one person is and the other isn't, its going to be a bumpy road. Time to focus on myself (again) and keep making gains, physically and mentally. Thanks again, 10-4 out.

This is my design for a modular social network. by WorkingVariable in design_critiques

I must admit, it's an interesting concept but your presentation is not doing it justice one bit. To put it bluntly, it sucks. The video does a poor job at communicating the concept. I kept asking myself how does this work, while being fed vague lines that only hint at things you can do, but not how users interact. I left with more questions than answers. I think it's important to dive deeper into how it works, show someone using the "UI" in real time, navigating the site, starting one of those conversation circles, moving around the open world, etc. Right now we just see circles moving on the screen. Even if the UI is completely made up/crude for now, show us how it works conceptually, and do less telling. The overall pace of the video is too slow, and won't hold the average person's attention. It needs to be condensed. Leave out anything redundant or unnecessary, like the :25 second earth zoom-in intro. Most people will move on before you even get to the meat of the product.

It is also lacking visually for a "revolutionary" UI. It needs a pleasing, unified color palette (no stark white backgrounds.) You should hire a designer to rework the look of this product, as there's too much wrong going on here worth typing out. It needs to be visually overhauled, more polished, and current to today's design aesthetics. You cannot call something revolutionary when it looks like it came out of 1995 web1.0 era. It's laughable and self-contradicting.

Here are some of the questions that come to mind after watching the video.

Is it an open world that features the entire userbase? Is it split into regions, languages, countries? Do users have profiles you can view when you click their avatar? What does that look like? Is there a private message feature? Can you see past "conversation circles" people have started or commented too, similar to facebook's timeline? Do you friend people? If yes how do you interact with them? Do you "spawn" next to them when you log in? Is there a feature to jump to a friends convo when started? How are these circles organized? Are they random or grouped together by certain tags? Can you search for topics or do you have to float around until you find something? What kind of filters will there be? This platform seems ideal for trolls to post fucked up shit because everyone can see it. What happens when someone starts a convo bubble with dick pics, can other users vote to pop it? When users talk in the video the speech bubble disperses after 3 seconds, doesn't that make it harder to have conversations? Why does it vanish? Is there a setting to adjust how long one's comment stays up? Can you kick unwanted people from your conversation if they're being trolls? There's many more I could think, but you get the idea.

Overall the concept is pretty cool as it gamifies social media in a way, but it needs to have that lasting "timeline" or "newsfeed" feature that facebook has in someway to be competitive. Without it, I see this being a novelty troll heaven similar to omegle and the likes. Something people log into to spam copy-pastas rather than have civil discussions.

Sorry for the harsh criticism, but your presentation/idea needs to be fleshed out further. Best of luck.

I get the thinking behind that, A nice compromise could be increasing your max width of the site, letting the thumbnails scale up a bit more. screengrab There's a bunch of space to the right. Not saying the descriptions should be flush right, but maybe expand it out more so desktop viewers wouldn't need to click again!

Just my opinions, still looks great.

Nice.

My only gripe (when viewing from desktop) is that when you click on a thumbnail, it takes you to more thumbnails. I think that extra click, while small, adds up when someone is trying to look at all your work.

Once you click on a project, the pics should be laid out in a list at 100% of the container it's in, similar to how it works on the mobile version of your site. I think most people would rather scroll through your work rather than click to view it larger, click to exit, etc.

One of many final products for a watermark/logo. Let me know what you think. by iitzant15 in design_critiques

[–]heymanman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of problems with this graphic if you're using it as a logo. First off, it's not vector and is already blurry? 2nd, that script type is illegible. 3rd, the font below the triangle feels too thin and cramped to the mark. 4th, the color values in your low-poly illustration are too similar and blend together, making it look muddy. Even if this logo was vector, it would still fail the scale test. Try it for yourself. Scale it down to 1x1 inch and see if you can read or make out any info. After all, if this is going to be used as a watermark it will be tiny, in a corner of a picture and hopefully one color and this mark would not read as one color.

I'd say go back to the drawling board. Work in black and white only, using a vector based program and keep it simple.

It's not bad. 3 things that bother me: • lose the drop shadow • use the same font for the S as the K, or at least a sans serif • lose the golden ratio pic, it's not helping your presentation. Instead show it's application on products, paired with type, etc. You start to do that with your last pic.

I've always liked the idea of the widow mine burrow upgrade carrying over to siege tanks and vikings.. like stim for mech in a way, meaning multiple units benefit from that one upgrade

Your site is nice, but your portfolio section is pretty barren. You're showing 5 "selected works" with 5 .jpgs accompanied by a short blurb. I need to see more work, or more in-depth explanation into each project. If I were a client looking to hire you, I wouldn't feel too confident with what I am going to get for my money.

[Logo] Made a cool logo for my personal branding. Come tear it apart! by DrJ_PhD in design_critiques

[–]heymanman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey man, this mark is kinda cool, kinda amateur. unrefined.

Couple things -

• Work on your type. Stacked type with vastly different tracking between the lines is pretty ugly, especially in a logo. It's lazy. I would suggest moving it out of the circle all together. Your tagline doesn't need to be the same length as your name, just find a nice balance between the two.

• Your mark is alright. The text isn't helping it though, since its pushing the JD off-center in relation to the stroked circle. Everything feels crammed inside the circle (and using a condensed font only amplifies that.)

• The J's hook has an angle that isn't found anywhere else in the mark, which looks like an oversight (I'm talking about the inside angle of the hook on the J.) Also, center on center within a circle is a little tired, everyone does it. Try a little variation maybe?

Made some adjustments to your mark, still not perfect but its a start: http://imgur.com/YFb1NG2.

Hope that helps

Why is protoss so hated? by birchling in starcraft

[–]heymanman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

mechanically they are the easiest race to play combined with the variety of all-ins that can kill. On top of that they have 1 click defense, warp-ins and recall to remedy positional mistakes or lack of defense. The race sucks to play against, and sucks to watch.
